Chapter 1162 Gungnir
Chapter 1162 Gungnir (First Update)
The heavy transport plane rose from below the horizon, skimming the sea in the warm red afterglow. Its non-reflective fuselage, covered in ablative armor, looked from afar like a large black seabird searching for food among the millions of scattered shimmering lights at dusk. The shimmering, beautiful water was cut by the airflow generated by the Pegasus heavy transport plane's supersonic flight, leaving a deep black scar. The white waves surging on both sides, reflected in the afterglow, resembled molten gold seeping from the wound.
Kasirius watched Salomon stand on the edge of the cliff, holding a long, ancient-looking spear in his hands.
The spear wasn't very long, and its shaft appeared to be made of dark brown wood, polished to a very smooth finish. A line of runes engraved on it praised the impending victory, revealing the owner's fondness for the weapon. However, the spear shaft was visibly scarred by swords and spears, as if the previous owner was powerless to repair these horrific battle marks. In fact, the shaft wasn't just simple wood, but made of a mysterious, indestructible, metal-like material with perfect balance and weight, and was extremely sturdy. It was hard to imagine what kind of enemy could have left such indelible marks on such a material.
The iron-gray spearhead, about the size of an average person's palm, appeared unremarkable, even dull and lackluster under the bright starlight, bearing a slight rust. No, those weren't rust marks; they were the final traces left by lives lost beneath this spear, countless glories and ambitions ending here, leaving only a dried bloodstain. This weapon, like a living organism, exuded its own consciousness, emanating an invisible spiritual mist, whispering ancient glories and desolate blessings in the ears of its wielder, urging it to pierce the enemy's body, to drink deeply of souls, and savor memories.
"I don't understand why he would give this to you. That old man won't miss any opportunity to deceive others." Cassirios's expression was serious, with a hint of worry. "According to the order of succession, Thor is more entitled to this spear. What does it mean for you to have this weapon, child?"
"I told you, I made a deal with him," Salomon said in a deep voice. He gripped his spear tightly, the weapon's spirit struggling like a snake before finally settling into a powerless submission. Behind them, on the pasture grass, was Kasirios's car. They planned to take it directly instead of returning the way they came, because the road to the outside world had been frozen by the chain reaction of Frigga's magical barrier. Kasirios's car tires had just had their snow chains removed, and driving on such icy roads would be extremely dangerous, potentially causing an accident.
"The human race will follow the path once trodden by the Asgardians. Both share the same origins and will eventually converge on the same evolutionary path. But humanity will do better, creating a civilization even more powerful than Asgard's," Salomon said confidently. "The Asgardians can choose to rebel or assimilate into humanity. Odin chose the second, with Dropnir as the witness to the covenant. Of course, I also gave him a small gift."
Frigga played with the small clay hammer in her hand.
The toy-like clay hammer had been sculpted into the shape of a warhammer, its surface intricately engraved with patterns reminiscent of Thor's hammer. She gently tapped the clay hammer on the armrest of the recliner, creating cracks, then raised it to her lips, whispered a spell, and tossed it away. The instant it left her hand, the clay crumbled away, and a warhammer formed from pure lightning appeared out of thin air. It rapidly expanded to its normal size and, like a comet radiating blue light, flew straight into the distance at a speed beyond human comprehension, disappearing into the dark clouds and unleashing a thunderous storm that illuminated the entire night sky.
Next to her recliner, within easy reach, were a dozen or so identical clay hammers.
"This is not bad." Frigga picked up a brand-new clay hammer and waved it at Odin, who was walking out of the room. "What, got lectured by the young man?"
"He agreed, and I gave him the key." The increasingly aged Allfather, his eyes half-closed, appeared drowsy, his disheveled beard stained with spilled mead. He made no mention of the trials in the illusion, for Salomon's power and wisdom far exceeded his expectations, forcing him to revise his terms at the last minute. "But he didn't agree to the most generous terms. Hela is about to leave her prison, Thor can't win this war, and the contract he agreed to can only protect the people of Asgard after Ragnarok; it can't guarantee Thor will be the ultimate victor."
"That's enough." Frigga gazed at the somber mountains in the distance. The grass stretching to the foot of the mountains was still covered in frost. Anomalies caused by extradimensional energy were rampant here, and to prevent mortals from straying, her spells covered the entire area. "This is the last Ragnarok. Whether it's Thor or him, they can break this cycle. They will face those ancient gods and free us all from our fate. Asgardian civilization will continue."
Odin sighed and sat down on another bench under the eaves. "I'm still not satisfied. The last condition was clearly better." He pulled a tattered little wine bottle from his pocket. "I tried to persuade him, but he just wouldn't listen."
"You've always underestimated human pride. The Sorcerer Supreme was a proud man, and so were her disciples." Frigga toyed with a clay hammer. "Although I also wish Salomon could join forces with Thor or Hela, you and I both know it's impossible, even if it benefits Asgard and Midgard. Kamar-Taj's ultimate goal is human free will; they are too proud to ever bow their heads."
The engines beneath the massive wings at the rear of the fuselage emitted astonishing heat, and as the ramps of the side doors were lowered, Cassilios had to squint and endure the smoke from the scorched grass. This was Cassilios's first time aboard the Pegasus Heavy Assault Transport, and the awe he felt from this aircraft was no less than that from the sky carriers he had seen before.
The aircraft, with a fuselage length similar to the Airbus A380 but much wider, possesses ample space to accommodate various equipment. Besides standard systems such as flight control, fire control, and gel foam fire suppression, it also boasts medical, maintenance, and medical command systems—everything the Imperial Guard and Salomon need. Luxurious rooms and similar amenities were omitted due to their space-consuming nature; all crew equipment maintains a simple and pragmatic style. While this equipment occupies most of the fuselage, the rear cargo hold still manages to accommodate a giant troop transport vehicle. Kasirius's cars are parked in the cargo hold behind the front ramp below the nose, without encroaching on the troop transport vehicle's garage.
"The weather satellites and air situation analysis department report persistent thunderstorms in the nearby clouds. This unusual weather shouldn't be happening, but we must leave the area of this cumulonimbus cloud before we can take off again. Weather analysts are investigating whether it's some kind of weather weapon, and given the possibility of enemy activity, the Pegasus heavy assault transport ships are ready for combat." Hammurabi stood near the ramp waiting for Salomon to appear. Seeing the monarch descend from the mountain, he immediately informed him of the pilot's situation and the air situation, while politely nodding to Cassirius as a greeting. He knew Cassirius's identity and also knew the role Cassirius had played in the first half of the monarch's life.
"It might take about twenty minutes, but that's within the margin of error."
"I understand. There's no need to investigate this; this thunderstorm poses no threat."
Salomon, recalling the gift he had given Hammurabi, hesitated to tell him the truth. He handed the weapon to the Royal Guard. "Activate the large protective force field box and put this gun inside. I'll unlock it after I return to the Immortal City. Order the Immortal City's foundry to prepare. I also need a batch of refined vibranium ore from Wakanda and the Royal Guard's disintegration force field generator. Then, use my authority to retrieve the following materials from the Psionic Department; these will be needed for the following work."
Hammurabi didn't ask any further questions. He saved the materials list into the power armor's database, then picked up his weapon and turned to leave, personally carrying out the guard duty.
