Chapter 1185 The Public Lie

Chapter 1185 An Open Lie (Second Update)

After the banquet, T'Challa arrived in Latvia aboard the Talon transport plane, bypassing all necessary official procedures and appearing directly in the backstage preparation room of the press conference. Such behavior by the Wakanda king, deviating from international protocol, could only be forgiven in Latvia, with whom he had the closest ties. The emperor didn't reprimand T'Challa for this minor matter; instead, he discussed the speech with him. Outside, all the foreign journalists were eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Latvia is currently a hot topic in European and American news. The charismatic and capable emperor, along with Latvia's policies, are all scoops for journalists eager to get their hands on. They are more interested in Latvia's impact on Europe, whether it will launch another bloody war against NATO, whether it will reconcile with mainstream Western society, and whether it will hand over the Avengers to the Hague tribunal, etc., rather than its dealings with a little-known country like Wakanda.

The previous Black Panther dreamed of integrating Wakanda into the international order and changing Wakanda's image in the international community. However, after a series of events and persuasion, T'Challa knew that this was futile. Using vibranium to gain international influence would not change the world's perception of Wakanda as only having lions and cheetahs; on the contrary, it might expose Wakanda's weakness. The lesson the Hell Knights taught Wakanda was enough to wake some Wakandans up and make them realize they were simply incapable of handling war.

Black Americans and Black Africans are fundamentally different species; Black people outside the African continent have been assimilated. Aside from Black celebrities and politicians who use their African identity to gain political attention on the left, those living in slums don't care about Africa, about how their ancestors were trafficked and enslaved. Their bodies are obese and bloated from cheap food, and their limited education prevents them from contemplating these issues. They cannot leave their birthplaces, not only because of gangs, alcohol, and drugs, but also because they cannot escape the invisible enslavement of modern life, leaving them only to wallow in self-pity and vent their discontent through violence.

T'Challa, unwilling to be drawn into the so-called "Black Revolution" to save Black Americans like N. Jadaka, instead planned to expand Wakanda's borders, bringing order and prosperity to the African continent. This was also the outcome Emperor Latvinia most desired, and the reason he ultimately sided with T'Challa. While N. Jadaka's plan was admirable, it was quite impractical. He wanted to save Black people who had degenerated into thieves, robbers, rapists, and drug dealers, but he failed to realize that these people didn't care about Wakanda, the poor people in Africa who could only afford mud cakes, or even what was happening in Haiti, a Black nation born from slavery.

T'Challa arrived late because he had spent a considerable amount of time researching villages in countries surrounding Wakanda. He saw emaciated mothers starving to death with their infants due to lack of breast milk, skeletal teenagers with abnormally swollen abdomens, young adults dying prematurely from disease, and even non-existent elderly people. He saw entire villages shrouded in the shadow of hunger, with almost no means of survival other than relying on occasional humanitarian aid that slipped through the fingers of corrupt officials and medical assistance from Doctors Without Borders.

The footage his team captured was the first time many Wakandas learned about the horrors of the outside world. Previously, they only knew that the surrounding African countries were poor and underdeveloped, and therefore viewed Africans with a condescending gaze. It wasn't until King T'Challa of Wakanda announced the establishment of an African order alliance centered on Wakanda that the Wakanda people realized their king genuinely intended to do this—not the hypocritical charity of a few photos at a Western charity gala showing a wealthy white businessman's wife in a formal dress moved to tears and then donating to a foundation—a mere tax avoidance tactic. Instead, he wanted Africans to become a symbol of Wakanda's expansion through education.

"I will eradicate poverty and hunger from the African continent, but I need Latvinia's help," T'Challa said excitedly to the Emperor of Latvinia. "This famine is not due to reduced grain production or any other natural cause, but rather a man-made famine created by large corporations that monopolize international grain. I want to break this monopoly and obtain enough grain; relying solely on Latvinia's grain exports cannot meet my needs."

"The UN can't handle this." Before the press conference, the Emperor was still reciting his speech, simultaneously correcting discrepancies between his and T'Challa's versions. Dressed in civilian clothes, the Emperor gave a completely different impression, more in line with the modern image of an official. "The violence of the modern order has been replaced by money. To break the chains of money, the sword of violence must be forged. Is Wakanda ready to declare war on the current international order? Are you sure this won't go against your father's wishes?"

“I am now king. If my father knew my decision, I believe he would be proud of me,” T'Challa said. “It is destined to be a difficult road, but I do not believe Wakanda will lose.”

"You will encounter armies organized by African governments. While Wakanda can easily defeat them, death is inevitable in war." The Emperor remained unmoved, not even glancing at T'Challa who had approached. "So, you either resolve to gradually expand the war, bringing more African territory under your rule and eradicating illiteracy, disease, hunger, and crime with books and whips, or stand by like an idiot and watch them die tragically, then rejoice that they gained the freedom to die in tribal politics and ignorance."

I don't know where your hostility comes from.

"I want to confirm whether your brain has been fooled by those compassionate, high-fat vegetarian idiots from the School of Political Science and Economics," the Emperor said coldly. Princess Shuri and Nakia of the Wakanda delegation sat a few meters away, discussing the upcoming itinerary and media coverage with Diana Lister. They wanted T'Challa to appear alongside the Emperor on numerous occasions, showcasing the close cooperation between Wakanda and Latvinia, as well as the friendship between the two leaders.

"To solve the problem, you must eradicate tribal politics and superstition. Even within Wakanda itself, you must accelerate the pace of centralized reforms. Otherwise, your wishes will only drag the entire Wakanda into an abyss of poverty and turmoil." The Emperor glanced at Diana Lister, who was yawning, then turned to T'Challa and said, "Wakanda's tribal politics have led to an excessively decentralized power structure. Black Panther must transition from a religious king to a de facto king. Otherwise, you have no authority to make any decisions, including the African Union you desire."

Unlike Shuri, T'Challa immediately grasped the subtext: "Another civil war?"

"Unless you want a lot of idle opposition figures within Wakanda, then you can choose a constitutional monarchy." The Emperor tossed the revised speech to T'Challa with annoyance. "Remember the changes above: we are kings with the ability to rule, not puppet politicians. We don't need spokespeople. We are lions protecting the flock. Protectors and those being protected cannot understand each other, which is why we need to make decisions until they can make the right decisions themselves rationally."

"N'Jadakha's followers were captured in Snake Valley, and the unrest in Wakanda has subsided." T'Challa didn't respond to the previous statement, but instead brought up another matter. "They didn't have N'Jadakha's body, never in the first place. They only brought the wounded into Snake Valley. N'Jadakha's body is missing. Do you know why?"

The Emperor stared into T'Challa's eyes, and only when T'Challa began to feel uncomfortable did he slowly look away. "No, I don't know," he countered. "Are you troubled by a defeated opponent who has lost all his supporters?"

"No... I'm sorry." T'Challa let out a long sigh of relief and picked up his speech to read.

"I will do it," he suddenly said after a while. "I know what the price will be, but I will do it."
