Chapter 1195 Long-arm Jurisdiction
Chapter 1195 Long-Arm Jurisdiction (Second Update)
"The Latvians actually want to meddle in American affairs?"
"Haven't you ever carried out missions to search for and destroy weapons of mass destruction overseas? What's that saying again, 'To protect the free and democratic world from harm'?" Salomon sneered, waving away the children gathered there, telling them to hurry up and finish their homework instead of idly chatting. "You've always been someone else's gun, whether you were stationed overseas or now. Your level of knowledge doesn't allow you to understand how a huge, sophisticated money-making machine works. Even if you want to die in the gutter, you still have to choose a side. That's the underlying logic of how this world works; that's the realm of social science. In fact, when you dealt with the Irish mafia, you were already involved in this, because it was the Irish mafia that provided human subjects for pharmaceutical companies."
Salomon picked up his glass and downed the peaty double whiskey in one gulp.
"Personally, I don't want to deal with things like this because the impact is far less than the decisions I usually make." He didn't look at Frank Kassel. "You know Kosovo? Because of Greater Albanian populism and Western intervention, it's now independent. Now it's a transit point for drug trafficking, arms trafficking, and human trafficking; it's a cancer on the Balkans, and even Albania itself is a poor and backward place."
"I know what happened there." Frank Cassel picked up his glass and took a sip. Somehow, the drink tasted strange, but due to blood loss, his tongue couldn't discern the difference; he only felt his mind starting to improve. "It's terrible, worse than New York."
"Marshal Tito pursued a policy of appeasement by suppressing Serbian interests, and the consequence was the disintegration of Yugoslavia after his death because those who originally shared the spoils no longer possessed sufficient prestige. History has shown us that if reforms cannot thoroughly eliminate vested interests, they will one day rise again, turning ideals into tools for profit, or even corrupting the ideals themselves." Salomon waved his hand again, and a plate of French fries magically appeared on the table. "Therefore, I will not make that mistake. The divisions among the people of the Balkans stem from religion, so eliminating divisions requires eliminating religion. If they refuse to abandon religious superstition, then send them to see their own gods. If they want to hide in temples and pray for miracles, then burn the temples and the people to ashes. The Ottoman Turks could do it, so Latvia can too, only through secularization, not conversion."
"This is crazy," Frank Cassel said.
Salomon nodded, agreeing with Frank Kassel's assessment. "Indeed, it's not a good thing, and I'm no saint for making this decision, but without such sacrifices, the ethnic vendettas in the Balkans will continue into the future. Is it better to kill ten people today and have a hundred live tomorrow, or to spare ten people today and have a hundred die tomorrow? Frank Kassel, what would you choose?"
"I don't know, I'm not a politician... How can you be sure you didn't kill innocent people?"
"I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure my army killed innocent people because that's war, and it's bound to happen. Genetically modified soldiers ignored the Ohrid Peace Framework, penetrated deep into North Macedonia, killed most of the Macedonian UCK, and wiped out the remaining populism of Greater Albania in the Balkans."
The so-called Macedonian UCK was formerly the Kosovo Liberation Organization, one of the largest drug cartels in the Balkans at the time. After Kosovo's independence, the organization officially disbanded, but dispersed into Albanian communities in neighboring countries, continuing to clash with local governments and demanding regional autonomy. Everything was exactly the same as in Kosovo; most of these people were Greater Albanian nationalists and perpetrators of genocide. Whether it was the Latvian Code or Latvian reforms, these die-hard religious drug traffickers had to die, so now they are dead, their villages destroyed by cruise missiles from the Hell Knights, killing anyone who tried to resist.
"All the children of the Kosovo Liberation Organization in Latvinia were taken away from their parents and thrown into colleges to learn science and philosophy, so that they would be free from the ignorance of their fathers and the diseases and deaths caused by that ignorance. Those uneducated Albanian youths had not experienced the Kosovo War, nor the disintegration of Yugoslavia, yet they rushed toward the guns of Latvinia under an unrealistic slogan—why? Because their parents taught them not to trust anyone outside Albanian, even if it meant their newborns would suffer from preventable encephalitis and various diseases, rather than trust the free education and medical care provided to them, something that had never happened before Tito's death."
It was only then that Frank Cassell realized why this man had claimed Nick Fury was his agent. Only a cold-blooded politician could make such a horrific decision, burying thousands of people. Both Nick Fury and he were weapons in the hands of such people, used to achieve their goals, but this man was different from other politicians.
Frank Kassel guessed the man's identity: it was the Latvian Emperor, who had once addressed the United Nations headquarters. Standing alongside soldiers, he led others forward through his actions. However, having grown accustomed to politicians who shouted slogans before elections and then reneged on their promises afterward, Frank Kassel was momentarily unsure whether he should feel disgust towards the man before him.
He punishes evil; from a universal value perspective, he should kill the person before him because that person's hands are stained with enough blood to drown a person. Yet, this kind of pragmatist brings tangible benefits to many lives. The irony that a country that outwardly respects public opinion needs a punisher as a sanctioner truly makes Frank Kassel uncomfortable. If he were still a soldier, he would be proud to have such a leader, but now he is no longer a soldier, but a private law enforcer acting according to his own inner values. And now, even these simple values of good and evil are being challenged.
"In the future world, only science will hold supreme status." Salomon poured himself and Frank Cassel another double shot of whiskey. "Now, Latvia doesn't have those representative constitutional democrats who only know how to pander to voters and openly accept bribes. Latvia refuses to be manipulated by the capital markets, so there will be no more of that absurd system of representative constitutional democracy. Everything must go according to my plan, and anyone who tries to interfere will have their head on their own living room table, even the President of the United States."
"What if you die?" Frank Cassel asked. "No one in this world is immortal."
"No, I am immortal, the ultimate form of human evolution. The teleportation you experienced and this plate of fries are all examples of immortals like me using energy from another dimension. This is not witchcraft, but simply scientific knowledge that ordinary people cannot yet understand."
Frank Cassel was silent for a moment. "I disagree with your point of view, but I agree to help you with this favor. Don't show your face in front of me afterward, or I will use every means I know to kill you. No one in this world is immortal; death is the final justice in the world."
"That's what I said to those politicians who surrendered, and then they all died. Finish this sandwich and fries, and I'll drive you home. I know you can't cook. If you see Matthew Murdoch, tell him the Hand mission is complete, the Hand members are no longer important, whether they live or die doesn't matter."
