Chapter 1203 Bombing Authority
Chapter 1203 Bombing Authority (Second Update)
Wanda Maximov spent nearly two months in the castle's dimly lit basement, working alongside agents of the Guardian Order and researchers from the Immortal City's bio-genetic laboratory to identify and characterize vampires captured and hunted by the Wild Order, analyzing their biological characteristics and soul spectra. By tracing and analyzing mutated genetic codes, they traced the ancestors and origins of these vampires inhabiting the Balkans, creating an accurate map of their reproduction and bloodline, providing guidance for subsequent clandestine extermination operations.
Amon's database contains detailed information about Wanda Maximoff; however, the young woman in the video wearing a punk red leather jacket has a completely different image and temperament from the witch in front of him, who is wearing a deep red robe and holding a snake bone iron staff.
After the guards entered the office, the witch waved for the archivists gathered around her to leave. "Let me prepare myself." She looked up, sizing up the two three-meter-tall guards. Even with their helmets on, she could discern their identities and ranks from the insignia on their shoulder armor—a skill few in Latverian Castle possessed; to most ordinary people, guards with their helmets on all looked identical. "I haven't seen this newcomer before."
"His name is Amun-Sphinx. He recently completed his ascension and passed the trials and tests, officially becoming a member of the Royal Guard." Hammurabi extended his hand, politely introducing the new Royal Guard to Wanda. "He now serves as the Shield Guard Herald, protecting the Emperor's safety alongside me. You will meet many more Royal Guards later, as the Emperor has told us that the Royal Guard's strength will not be less than ten thousand."
"Why are we treating this witch with such courtesy? And aren't you worried about the uncontrollable risks her contact with the Emperor might bring?" While waiting outside the archives for Wanda Maximov to change and wash, Amon used the communication channel to ask his superior. During their final life-or-death trials, the Royal Guard had launched numerous attacks against alien cultists, encountering countless bizarre and terrifying events. Their deep-seated hatred for extradimensional entities was already ingrained in their genes, leading them to maintain a considerable degree of vigilance towards wizards who used extradimensional energy.
"Perhaps we should prepare more steps, such as having her give the report through a one-way glass."
"She is the Emperor's advisor and apprentice. You should study her files on how to deal with rebellion and corruption; they detail her abilities," Hammurabi said softly. "The Emperor has prepared countermeasures for everyone, and we are the ones who implement them. Before she falls, we must treat her with the respect due to us. Of course, I personally hope that those countermeasures will never be needed, not because of her power, but because her relationship with the Emperor makes our monarch happier."
About half an hour later, the two shield guards saw the witch again after she had tidied herself up.
Unlike the gloomy witch she once was, Wanda Maximov was now dressed in casual clothes, had discarded her snake-bone staff, and seemed to have regained her youthful vitality. Behind her followed a full squad of elite Black Armor Guards from the Immortal City, clad in fully enclosed void combat armor. This was the security force provided to her by the Emperor and the Regent; in fact, all the soldiers in this archive were there to protect her, not the documents themselves. In the Emperor's eyes, the documents were far less valuable than Wanda Maximov.
While the Imperial Guard might disregard such armed forces, these well-equipped soldiers were a major problem for other infantry units. Their presence meant that it was impossible to harm Wanda Maximov through ambushes, not to mention the two intelligent combat robots in the orbital drop pods. Wanda Maximov could directly control these robots through mind manipulation, enabling them to annihilate all enemies according to her will.
Wanda Maximov didn't come alone; she was accompanied by a woman dressed in a black robe. This woman was thin and gaunt, with a pentagram tattoo on her forehead. Where her once-blooded eyes had been, high-resolution electronic prosthetics had been installed, ensuring her vision wouldn't be impaired and allowing her to see the spectrum invisible to the naked eye. She carried a thick stack of parchment, containing reports and documents Wanda had compiled over the past few days. As Wanda Maximov's work and personal assistant, this woman was subject to far stricter surveillance and protection; even her skull had tiny, invisible reliefs that made it resistant to certain extradimensional energies.
To be precise, it was Wanda Maximoff's magic; all the staff in the archives were somewhat resistant to it. This was a fact Wanda was completely unaware of, because she had never tried to use her abilities to peer into the minds of her subordinates. "Can we go now?" Wanda patted Hammurabi's arm guard. "I can't wait."
"The monarch would very much like to have lunch with you. I think you will be pleased with today's menu, and there are your favorite oysters among the appetizers," Hammurabi said in a light tone. However, when Wanda saw Silver Sablinova sitting in the office's drawing room before her, her face was full of unspeakable surprise.
"Does she participate in lunchtime too?" Wanda turned to the guard who had walked into the office with her and asked.
Hammurabi had already gone into the inner palace to report, leaving Amon behind to look after Silver Sable and Wanda. Faced with the Scarlet Witch's questions, Amon couldn't say anything. He couldn't understand why Wanda was surprised, because this was a report on the operation to eradicate the corrupted extradimensional energy creatures in the Balkans. The Wild Chapter, as a special unit, was deeply involved, and Silver Sablinova, as its commander, was naturally present.
"I hope you can provide the information I need," Silver Sablinova said calmly to Wanda.
Even when facing the Emperor, she remained neither humble nor arrogant. The last time the Emperor met with Silver Sablinova, he reprimanded the Wild Chapter for its warlordism and factionalism, warning them not to consider themselves an armed force outside the Latvian army and refuse orders and organization, and not to hold onto all responsibilities such as selection and deployment.
Clearly, Silver Sablinova accepted the suggestion. The Wild Chapter was now one of Regent Victor von Doom's special forces, on par with the Black Armor Guard of the Immortal City, both being special operations units. With its new organization, the Wild Chapter had more resources to address its problems. However, soldiers with a strong mercenary mentality, unable to tolerate the strict discipline and ideological training, were dismissed early. Silver Sablinova knew nothing of their fate; she only heard that one person, although leaving the Wild Chapter, had joined the genetically modified warrior project due to their physical attributes.
"The current clearing operation has stalled. We can't find the vampires hiding in the cities and countryside. In the last operation, more than 20 of my soldiers were killed or wounded because we didn't know in advance that the vampires had joined forces with religious militants. Although we eventually wiped them all out with armed helicopters, those casualties could have been avoided."
“This is not within my scope of responsibility,” Wanda Maximov retorted without hesitation. “I have already submitted the report, which you can access if you have the authority, but I don’t think it contains what you need.”
"I've seen that report, that's why you're here," the Emperor said, waving his hand to interrupt their argument. He didn't understand what was going on either, why Wanda harbored such hostility towards Silver Sablinova. But that wasn't his concern. Now that vampires and religious militants had joined forces, who knew what outrageous things they might do next?
"After receiving the order, you will be supported by a squad of Fire Knights, and the War Council will also approve your large-scale bombing authority. I hope you will use the latter with caution. Although the propaganda department will help you cover up the truth, I still do not want my innocent people to die in the war."
