Chapter 1218 The Battle of the Old Gods (First Update)

"The Chakcher Key is an obsidian dagger. According to pre-colonial inscriptions and Spanish colonial documents, the obsidian dagger was used many times to cut out hearts as sacrifices to Quetzalcoatl, to peel off skin for priests to wear while dancing wildly, and to sprinkle drops of blood on the crowds below the pyramids."

After resting at the Oxfordshire manor for a while, Wanda Maximoff's mental and physical condition improved considerably, and she even received an amulet from the witch. She then threw herself back into her work, helping the Emperor sort through and decipher the documents moved from the Kamar-Taj Library. Footage from Camilla's team's combat recorders was used as an index for finding the documents, and the screenshots concerning the Chuckcher Key, in particular, determined to some extent the conditions for awakening Quetzalcoatl.

"But the problem is, we're not sure if the Chuckcher Key is infested with extradimensional beings." Wanda Maximov closed her book. "If it is, then Trinity mercenary commander Rourke could very well be bewitched and go directly to the Ishcher Silver Box. If it's just a powerful weapon, then Camilla's team and Laura Crawford could very well face unimaginable danger."

"The town of Cozumel has been submerged by the tsunami. The cleansing process of that powerful extradimensional being called Quetzalcoatl is about to begin." The young mage, Wang, pointed solemnly to the description in the documents about Quetzalcoatl creating a new world. While myths shouldn't be taken entirely at face value, they can serve as a reference. Among the hundreds of myths about Quetzalcoatl, the creation of a new world brings disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. However, as a Kamar-Taj sorcerer with a formal education, the young mage possessed more knowledge than Wanda.

The town of Cozumel, where the Chakcher Key was discovered, is located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The Chicxulub crater is also located on the Yucatan Peninsula. In Mayan, Chicxulub means "devil's tail." This crater, with an average diameter of about 180 kilometers, is one of the largest impact formations on Earth. 6500 million years ago, an asteroid struck the Chicxulub region in what is now Mexico, causing the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event of the dinosaurs. According to the top-secret documents of Kamar-Taj, behind that asteroid impact was an unknown struggle among the ancient gods, aimed at exterminating the "Ancient Serpent" and replacing the dominant species on Earth.

When the young mage learned of this knowledge, he was already a deacon of the temple. However, his colleague, the current Emperor of Latvinia, had already learned of the impact of the Old Gods' conflict on Earth when he ventured into the mystical world. Due to his distrust of the forces of other dimensions, the Emperor, under the guidance of the Sorcerer Supreme, had long ago established his will: to completely exclude such uncertainties from the history of human development and grant all humanity true free will.

The awakening of Quetzalcoatl is so serious that Kamar-Taj must deal with it seriously.

Even though they knew in advance that Quetzalcoatl was about to awaken, and some mages had made ample preparations, all the mages still felt that their preparations were completely insufficient. As for the Emperor's final solution, which was to use interstellar missiles to completely destroy Quetzalcoatl, many mages considered it the "final solution" rather than their first choice.

"The disasters won't stop; only by addressing the root of the disaster will they cease," said the young sorcerer, his face showing difficulty. While Kamar-Taj would send sorcerers to resolve the issues, the number of those truly capable of solving them could be counted on one hand. Mordo and Kasirius were somewhat lacking in skill, the sorcerer Hamil was too old and frail to perform teaching duties, and Victor von Doom had defected and was now based in Latvinia. Therefore, apart from the Sorcerer Supreme and the Emperor of Latvinia, no one was capable of completely resolving the problem. This meant that whoever resolved it would have to confront the fully awakened Feathered Serpent, a perilous mission with a near-certain death rate that had invariably been accomplished at a heavy price throughout Kamar-Taj's history.

"Interstellar missiles, Your Majesty, this is the age of technology." Emperor Latvinia appeared behind them, his tall and imposing figure making the young mage seem somewhat small. Wanda nodded excitedly at him, while the young mage sighed quietly, trying to avoid looking directly at the energy radiating from him without preparation. In their second vision, Emperor Latvinia appeared like a supernova, constantly spewing energy outwards, as if the remnant of the human named Salomon had been crushed into dust and hurled into space. Emperor Latvinia shrugged. "Of course, that's the final plan. Whether to adopt it depends on Laura Crawford's assessment. A day ago, the Latvinian delegation went to Cuba, and Amon will provide assistance to Camilla's team."

"Hey Jonah, are you listening?"

Laura Crawford's voice was drowned out by the noise of rain pounding on the armored personnel carrier deck and the camouflage covering it; the person on the other end of the communicator could barely hear her. After Jonah's repeated prompting, Laura Crawford could only raise her voice somewhat awkwardly, but she still tried not to wake the sleeping members of Camilla's team.

Every minute of rest is precious now, especially for a small armed squad about to embark on an expedition. The dangers and difficulties ahead will strip them of all courage, honor, and sanity. Even the most experienced guerrillas cannot guarantee that they will survive in that primeval forest.

"I need you to wait for us outside town. The armored personnel carrier will pass through there… Yes, that's right, we're going to the primeval forest. Remember that riddle, 'Follow the heart of the serpent to find the mountain with the silver crown'? I think Dr. Domiggs' answer is the answer. Ask if they have the 'gifts' for Supilulius. They should have arrived today via the Ucaria River. If so, please hire a truck to transport them. They are our ammunition and medical supplies… Of course, I don't object to you buying some beer. As long as this troop carrier can hold it, I think everyone here needs some beer."

"You're welcome, if you'd like to thank me," Dr. Domiggs tilted his head. "I've already demonstrated my willingness to cooperate, so what's there to doubt?"

"I will not release you from your tracking, Dr. Domiggs." Laura Crawford looked up at the man sitting opposite her. "The locals in Cozumel who died at the hands of the Trinity mercenaries died because of your purge orders. You must take responsibility for your actions."

“I’ve already said it, I was used by Trinity, Laura.” Dr. Domiggs shook his head. “Your father was a great archaeologist, and I had heard of him before Trinity recruited me. I don’t understand why Trinity wanted to kill him, but I had no right to interfere. If it were me, I would never have let such a talented person die in vain.”

"Stop your hypocrisy; you're only saying this to save your own life."

Dr. Domiggs smiled and did not refute.
