Chapter 1227 My Lord Has Arrived
Chapter 1227 My Lord Has Arrived (Second Update)
Meteorologists repeatedly warned the emperor that it was not a suitable time to travel by aircraft to South America. The recent extreme weather there had forced many airports to close due to torrential rains, causing numerous flight delays and cancellations. Human-made aircraft were currently unable to withstand the overwhelming force of nature, and the expressions on the faces of the meteorologists aboard the aerial carrier as they observed satellite cloud images were the best evidence of this conclusion.
Aircraft carriers and battleships are equipped with a large number of radars and other observation equipment to observe targets. The data transmitted back by these radars makes the military meteorologists very happy. No position can obtain first-hand data more directly than working on an aircraft carrier. Now, the videos and data they have captured with cameras, combined with satellite cloud images, may be able to unravel the mystery behind this abnormal weather.
Thick, cumulonimbus clouds began to form a vortex, and a hurricane was rapidly taking shape over the Caribbean Sea. Diana Lister and her sorority's Aura looked up through the terminal's glass walls at the dark gray sky. Although it was morning, the sky was as gloomy as dusk. Torrential rain, accompanied by thunder, pounded the ground, revealing the majesty and violence of nature in its entirety. Just like the weather, everyone was speculating whether the Emperor would arrive, and officials from the Cuban delegation repeatedly inquired whether the talks should be suspended due to the weather.
But Diana Lister insisted that the Emperor would come, because she had received his promise not long ago.
The U.S. Navy's Fourth Fleet was facing unprecedented storms. Extreme weather conditions, with fierce winds and torrential rains, descended upon the fleet without warning. Several aircraft that had taken off during the 1+45 training exercise failed to return to their decks and crashed into the sea. One aircraft parked on the deck also slid into the ocean amidst the turbulent waves. Tree-like lightning, generated by electrical friction in the clouds, struck directly at the boiling, black ocean. This was a failed training exercise; the plan to encircle the waters surrounding Cuba had failed from the start. The Fourth Fleet had to evacuate as quickly as possible, desperately trying to return to port to avoid the storm.
Above the gray clouds, the stars still shone brightly.
The Sky Carrier and a mixed squadron of Pegasus Heavy Assault Transports and Claw Interceptors descended smoothly from low orbit. Although the clouds below continued to discharge electricity, no one questioned the Emperor's order. Surprisingly, as the formation descended to a certain altitude, the thick clouds seemed to be cleaved open by an invisible giant sword, parting the rain and thunder to create a path large enough for the formation to fly. Diana was astonished to find the warm sunlight returning to the earth. She looked up and saw golden scars stretching to the horizon in the leaden sky, sunlight streaming through them, and the continuous downpour gradually subsided, finally transforming into a gentle, molten gold-like drizzle.
Diana Lister turned around and looked proudly at the officials waiting in the terminal.
"Our Lord has arrived."
The entire Terminal 3 of José Martí Airport was packed with people, and the airport's only two runways were occupied by the landing escort formations. Emperor Latvian's Sky Carrier and its flight formation descended from the wound in the sky, landing in an orderly manner under the guidance of panicked air traffic controllers, but no one disembarked from the Sky Carrier or transport plane until Diana Lister and Cuban officials went to greet them.
"Playing tricks," Nick Fury said, watching the live broadcast through the glass window. "But it's scary enough."
"You know him?" A homeless man Nick Fury had met a dozen hours earlier picked his nose. "I used to know the President of the United States, nothing to brag about. Did I tell you about 9/11?"
"You have to say it every hour." Nick Fury shook his head dismissively.
On television, genetically modified warriors emerged in orderly formation from the Pegasus Heavy Assault Transport, standing in formation before the massive sky carrier. Their gold and bronze power armor, inevitably damp with moisture in the humid air, was rendered far from disheveled by the dazzling sunlight beneath the overcast sky; instead, it exuded an unimaginable majesty. The sun-drenched, damp runway, reflecting the Emperor's radiance as he descended from the sky carrier, resembled a shimmering river. Even the news reporters present stood frozen, unable to utter a word despite the presenter's urging. A blood-red military flag embroidered with a golden eagle fluttered behind the Emperor, while towering armored vehicles, like hounds, surrounded him, carrying the heat of the atmosphere descending to the Earth's surface.
Under the news channel's cameras, the height difference between the emperor, genetically modified soldiers, the royal guards, and ordinary people was clearly visible. Tall and imposing were practically synonymous with the Latvian delegation; even the strongest and tallest ordinary people appeared like infantile children in their presence. The Cuban official welcoming the emperor even forgot his greetings. The military force brought by the Latvian emperor, including the aircraft carrier and genetically modified soldiers, deeply shocked everyone present. If it weren't for the vast distance between Latvian and Cuba, the officials present might have even suspected an invasion rather than a visit.
"Superman phobia," Nick Fury smugly tossed out the term to the homeless man. "Most people would feel scared when they see those bastards."
"Are they really not experimental products...? Look at them, that giant golden thing must be at least three meters tall!"
"Yep." Nick Fury clicked his tongue and lit a cigarette. "That official can't even reach his shoulder."
"He must be a formidable fighter. He's a fucking human tank; one punch from him could smash the head off the toughest thug around here." The homeless man took a cigarette from Nick Fury, lit it, and took a greedy drag. "Did I tell you about my time in the Marines? Too bad that big guy isn't the President of the United States, or I'd definitely vote for him. He looks like an... emperor."
"You said it every three hours, even during meals," Nick Fury narrowed his eyes. "Believe it or not, I actually built that Sky Carrier, and it was stolen by some little bastard who left me nothing."
"Ha, we're all working for someone else. I understood that when that plane crashed into the World Trade Center. If I hadn't been lucky enough, I'd be in a trash can with a pile of rubble right now, and George W. Bush would be giving a speech on my corpse." The homeless man sighed. "When I realized the world was controlled by a few, I was utterly devastated, and I gave up everything. Come on, I'll take you to that person, and you can get what you want."
"My lord has arrived, and I now assume command."
Passing through the cave, they arrived at a canyon. The scene before them forced Camilla's squad to lay down their weapons, for they couldn't point them at the people in front of them. Corpses lay around them, all bearing the armbands of the Holy Trinity. Their weapons and bodies were severed together, and blood pooled on the moss-covered stone bricks, forming a lake. Supilulius and Amon stood in the center of the pile of corpses and spent cartridges, gripping their halberds, the blades and muzzles pointed at a group of people dressed in indigenous clothing.
Unlike the indigenous people that Camilla's team had encountered in the cave before, these indigenous people were clearly more civilized. They had obviously abandoned the habits of painting their faces with paint and piercing their bodies.
The leader of the group of indigenous people was a dark-haired woman whose eyes were fixed on Supiluliumas and the terrified boy beside Amon's legs. These indigenous people all had brown skin, as did the boy, and it was easy to see with the naked eye that the boy was genetically linked to the leading indigenous woman.
"You too must obey my lord's commands." Supiluliumas pointed his garrison spear at the natives, his dialect flowing like that of a local. "If you dare to launch any attack against the Royal Guard, I will kill you all."
