Chapter 1266 A Short Rest
Chapter 1266 A Short Break (Second Update)
The military airfield near the capital city sees various fighter jets and transport planes taking off and landing every day, so when this Pegasus Heavy Assault Transport Boat landed, it didn't attract much attention until it used its highest authority to land on the elevator platform. Immediately afterwards, agents from the Guardians of the Order came to the control tower, presented the Regent's order and the Guardians of the Order's authority, and ordered the First Secret Group to delete the Pegasus Heavy Assault Transport Boat's flight path information and other data.
The smoke from the burning incense was exceptionally pungent in the small, stuffy room, but it couldn't mask the air thick with the smell of extradimensional energy, metal, and the stench of blood at high temperatures. Victor von Doom couldn't see details beyond five paces; only the faint light reflected from the Royal Guard's golden armor allowed him to vaguely make out the Emperor's dark gray overcoat and the epaulets on it. He blinked, his electronic eyes switching between infrared, thermal imaging, and biometric signal modes, observing the person seated at the far end of the room from various angles.
"How badly are you injured, hmm?"
The Regent rudely bypassed the guards armed with halberds and walked towards the throne at the far end of the secret chamber. Dozens of orbs emitting soft white light rose up, illuminating the chamber. This room, hidden within the castle, had no windows, but it possessed its own ventilation and medical equipment. Victor von Doom saw that the white shirt beneath the Emperor's coat was stained with blood at the waist. He unceremoniously lifted the thin shirt, revealing that the medical dressing beneath was soaked with precious blood. The Emperor's expression remained calm until Victor von Doom reached out and tore open the dressing, revealing the wound beneath that had almost severed the Emperor in half.
The wound had charred edges, and the medical equipment placed to the side was stained with blood. Clearly, the emperor had tried to close the wound by using electric burns, but the attempt failed. The painstakingly stitched muscle was torn open again by the lingering external dimensional energy.
"Can you handle this yourself?" the Regent asked sternly. "Why haven't you banished the curse from your wounds?"
"I could before we set off, but now I need rest, a good rest," the Emperor said with his eyes closed. Although he was injured, he seemed unaware of it, his tone still as cold and unyielding as ever. "I must conserve my strength to deal with any unforeseen circumstances. The matter of Quetzalcoatl is not over yet, the secrets of the Yasok have not been fully revealed, and those schools of thought will not remain quiet. I need your help, and then give me some time to heal, so I can be as strong as I was before we set off."
"So you've been bleeding all this time because of a few curses?" Viktor von Doom laughed in anger. He gripped the golden eagle staff tightly, striking it heavily with each word. "Have you lost your mind? Do you know that the safety of the entire Yugoslav Federation is tied to your health?"
"Relax, my friend. I did this because I know what I'm doing. A little more blood won't affect my health. The half of my kidney that Quetzalcoatl cut off has already grown back. These are just superficial wounds. You just need to help me expel the curse from my muscles." The Emperor raised his hands in surrender. "The witch isn't good at this kind of curse, the Venerable One has other things to attend to, and Wanda is completely helpless against such intricate curse spells. After thinking it over, the only people who have the ability and time to break this intricate curse are you and Kasirius."
"Don't do something so stupid again."
"Thank you, Victor." The Emperor laughed. "In half an hour, I have a meeting on civil service reform and corporate taxation on my schedule, as well as an emergency disaster relief meeting. We can't let those idiotic elected officials who know nothing but votes ruin this excellent situation. We need to convene officials from the medical and law enforcement systems to maintain order while carrying out rescue operations, and at the same time, order the Ministry of Justice to activate the Disaster Response Code. In times like these, when everyone is facing disaster, there will inevitably be those who take advantage of the situation. In times of crisis, severe measures are needed, and the Ministry of the Interior should draw its sword."
"You can still hold a meeting now? A meeting isn't a break. You know the conflict between Albanian and Serbian officials; they'll fight in the meeting room." Viktor von Doom cast a spell while giving the Emperor a suspicious look. "And who do you plan to use as the scapegoat? The First Secret Regiment or the Void Combat Force?"
"The Wild Legions must prove their worth." Upon hearing this, the Regent understood the Emperor's arrangement. The Wild Legions must be completely transformed into a force within the military and police; this transformation was not a verbal promise but required concrete action. "If you act quickly, I can attend the meeting. For me, resolving this minor issue is far simpler than dealing with Quetzalcoatl."
Although night had fallen over the castle, requests to see the Emperor continued to pour in, and the two meetings were simply insufficient to complete all urgent official business. After the meetings, the Emperor had a brief exchange with senior officials such as Stephanie Malick and Diana Lister, pushing back his departure time by more than an hour. Fortunately, Regent Victor von Doom, citing the Emperor's fatigue from his long journey, took over all official duties, just as he had before the Emperor departed for Cuba, allowing the Emperor to return to his Oxfordshire estate for a proper rest, accompanied by the Guards.
"I think I should send you to clean the stables, Hammurabi."
After disembarking from the aircraft, the Imperial Guard wisely refrained from following, instead turning away via another road from the helipad towards the stables. Having been away from the estate for so long, the conditions in the stables must be terrible; Hammurabi's pony was in dire need of care, forcing Hammurabi to wear power armor and perform cowboy duties. However, Oxfordshire Estate was one of the safest places for the Emperor, and Hammurabi could confidently entrust the Emperor's safety to his android maid, Dinah—but if he saw what Dinah and her group of androids doing, providing services, were up to, he would surely regret so easily handing the Emperor over to those madwomen—they brought in a wheelchair and medicine, insisting the Emperor sit in it while they escorted him; even the Cheshire Cat, who had come to join the fun, was captured and given a bath, otherwise not allowed to approach the Emperor.
It's understandable that Tita told them about the Emperor's injury, but not about the details of his treatment, which is why the girls were so anxious. This tense atmosphere affected most of the people in the manor; even Milia sat sadly on the sofa in the front hall, lost in thought, until she saw the Emperor stride in in his wheelchair, behaving completely unlike a patient. Only then did the girl cheer and rush over.
The Emperor whispered in the girl's ear, "Where are Bayonetta and Joan of Arc? Is she angry? Did you see them with guns?" Milia pointed to the second floor and then shook her head. "Very well, then you'll sleep in your own room tonight." He picked Milia up and handed her to Diana, then handed the Cheshire Cat perched on his shoulder to another homunculus, gave a few brief instructions, and went upstairs on his own. Less than two minutes later, a heavy thud was heard from the second floor of the manor, followed by several gunshots, and then even the gunshots disappeared.
"Dinner time is delayed by three hours tonight. Change the menu, prepare more high-calorie food and send it to the bedroom; the master will need to replenish his energy afterward," Diana ordered, seemingly unsurprised. The android completely ignored the Regent's schedule for the Emperor. "Also, prepare the renovation materials; we should be repairing the doors, walls, and floors tomorrow morning. This time, we'll install some explosion-proof measures."
