Chapter 1350 The Witch's Manor
Chapter 1350 The Witch's Manor (Second Update)
"I refuse!"
Bayonetta didn't have time to deal with any financial products, especially since Salomon's advice was never reliable. It was more of a joke than advice; perhaps his absurd investment suggestion of buying large quantities of Dutch cheese would come in handy once everyone thought the products grew out of the store. In response, she slapped Salomon, who was hugging her from behind, and then, as if sensing something, turned to look at Jeanne and chuckled. She rested her head on the sorcerer's shoulder and whispered something in his ear through the loose strands of hair.
Joan of Arc was completely unaware of this situation at that moment, because her fish had already taken the bait.
Bayonetta drove with Joan of Arc to Kamar-Taj London today to pick up Salomon and bring him back to their Oxfordshire estate (the Guard used a portal; he wanted some time alone with the witch). They also collected the hunting orders for extradimensional creatures from the British Isles issued by Kamar-Taj London and some long-standing bounties, significantly enriching Bayonetta's coffers. Most of Kamar-Taj's secular properties are real estate, and the venture capitalists consistently provide excellent return reports. Therefore, when Bayonetta chose to collect the bounty, she requested secular currency rather than gold; the total amount was approximately two million US dollars.
Although this amount of money was nothing compared to Salomon's account as the Sorcerer Supreme, the witch really enjoyed the feeling of making money while hunting extradimensional creatures.
After returning to his Oxfordshire estate, Salomon began to slack off. He first lay on the sofa watching TV until after lunch, when Milia swung through the living room with her sponge sword, hitting him in the stomach like a cannonball. Only then did he remember that he had a child to take care of at home.
So he took Milia to the stables, where he trimmed the horses' hooves and brushed their coats. This continued until afternoon tea time, and finally, under Pegasus's watchful eye, he chose a dark brown Arabian horse, mounted it, and lifted Milia to his side, swaying gently towards the manor's small boat dock. Sometimes, when the android maids under Dinah finished their work or were on their days off, they would take fishing rods and buckets to the vicinity of the small boat dock to fish—it was a recreational activity, not for actual fishing—and this time Salomon brought Milia along to participate in this activity. He taught her how to choose bait, identify the types of fish, and determine the areas where fish congregate. Before long, even the witch arrived at the small boat dock, led by the Cheshire Cat, and the maids brought a soft sofa for Salomon and the witch to rest on.
Although legally this stretch of water, several kilometers long, is not entirely private property, it is effectively indistinguishable from private land because there are no manors built along the Thames nearby and it is not a traffic area. Of course, this is not the main reason why the Royal Guard and the android maids placed anti-frogman mines upstream and downstream. Even if it were a traffic area, as the Emperor's security department, they would do everything possible to protect the manor, submerging various detection instruments and even installing automated weapon stations on the docks.
Fishing requires a great deal of patience, something Milia, at her age, simply couldn't possibly possess. She ran back and forth along the riverbank, either bothering the Cheshire Cat waiting for a bite or nibbling at the Arabian horse grazing on the grass. Luckily, the maids stayed close to her, or she would surely have broken her neck on the riverbank or been kicked by the irritated horse.
Even more fortunately, Milia fell asleep on the sofa shortly afterward.
She escaped her afternoon nap, but not her biological clock. After enjoying grilled fish and picnic sandwiches by the river, she finally collapsed, exhausted, into Salomon's arms, falling into a deep sleep within seconds. Dinah even draped a small blanket over her. Salomon carefully laid her aside, blessing her dream with a short incantation, keeping her soul away from storms and whispers. Her fate was destined to be fraught with hardship; the energy flowing in her veins was enough for a mediocre spellcaster to summon demons with sorrow, anger, cunning, decay, and pleasure as their viscera. All Salomon could do now was protect her soul, commanding the demons to stay away, until the day she was able to face it alone.
This little spell can also put Milia into a deep sleep, ensuring she doesn't wake up suddenly before dinner.
"We need to have a few of our own children," Bayonetta said, a tingling sensation welling up inside her as she watched Milia drift into a sweet dream. She finally ended their passionate kiss and whispered to Salomon, "We could start now, for example."
"I suggest the bedroom." Salomon lingered on the witch's lips, seemingly insatiable. That softness and sweetness was exactly what he craved. Bayonetta's burning body nestled in his arms, her slender, perfect form enveloped in a heavy black bearskin cloak. Even he couldn't help but be captivated by the sight before him. Kamar-Taj valued detachment from worldly affairs, but that didn't mean Salomon had to be an ascetic for life. "If I can't fill you up, I'll admit defeat." His playful remark made Bayonetta blush deeply. This was rare; only when he had achieved a clear victory would the witch shed her domineering demeanor and reveal this other side.
Bayonetta glanced at Jeanne, who was completely absorbed in fishing. This witch colleague seemed to enjoy all kinds of games, whether it was cards, darts, horse racing, or fishing. She wanted to join in on any game that allowed her to compete with others, and now she kept hoping that the fish in the bucket at her feet would surpass Salomon's catch.
"Joan isn't about to put down her fishing rod." Bayonetta could feel her colleague's enthusiasm, but it wasn't focused on the water's surface; it was on the bucket at their feet. So far, they'd only caught two tiny, almost indistinguishable fish. Salomon's bucket had long since been emptied back into the river, but Joan was still unwilling to give up. To be precise, Joan simply wanted to beat Salomon, nothing more, but even this small wish was hard to fulfill, or rather, her competitiveness was simply a refusal to let herself off the hook. "Perhaps it's because her performance last night was so embarrassing, and now she wants to regain her face here," Bayonetta said with a laugh. "You were too rough with her last night."
"She likes it too, doesn't she?" Salomon shrugged, wrapping the witch tightly in his bearskin cloak, just like Cleopatra was hidden under a blanket. He picked up Bayonetta and carried her towards the manor, his movements so light that almost no one noticed them. "The two of us are enough. Are you worried about making it to dinner?"
"Oh, darling, I think Diana wouldn't mind having dinner brought to the bedroom."
