Chapter 1375 Alchemy Substitute
Chapter 1375 Alchemy Substitute (First Update)
Agent Coulson looked toward the cockpit once again.
As a small transport aircraft, the Quinjet's cockpit was a two-person semi-open design, allowing passengers in the crew and cargo bays to clearly see the pilot and co-pilot. However, this time he could see nothing. A sealed door had been added to the cockpit, and communication between the crew and cockpit was only possible via a hard-wired intercom. The cockpit's response was eerily calm, even somewhat monotonous. On the way to the Los Angeles metropolitan area, silence enveloped everything. Although there were no physical or mental constraints, Agent Coulson still obediently sat in the folding safety chair, fastened his seatbelt, and, as he had done countless times before, firmly secured himself to the seat.
"As agreed, you must tell me some information." He finally couldn't help but speak. He could see the emotions in the eyes of the precise Stand opposite him, as if the other had been waiting for him to speak. It made him feel like prey caught in a trap, and the damned hunter was standing at the entrance with a gun. His imagination was so vivid that his legs started to ache, and his severed hand felt icy cold. "How is the Lighthouse Base now?"
"My Commander of the Guard has the situation under control," the Precision Stand said calmly. "While S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have performed admirably against cyborgs and heavily armed combatants, don't forget they're still human. Don't expect ordinary people to put up any resistance against genetically modified soldiers. He carried out his orders; no one was killed after the conflict ended, only a few arms and legs were broken. At least all the important figures in the base are alive."
"An important person?"
"Melinda May, Alfonso McKenzie, Daisy Jason, Leopold Fitz, Gemma Simmons… and others whose names I haven't mentioned. They won't die in this conflict, because you have another mission to complete," the Precision Stand said. "That mission can't be done without any of you."
“You always talk about fate and missions,” Phil Coulson pointed out the crux of the matter. “If you’re going to ask me to do something for you, then just tell me straight what you want. You’ve never been one to beat around the bush, at least not before you became emperor. I miss the honest Salomon of the past.”
The precise double aimed the bio-eye at the agent, seemingly testing his sincerity.
This made Agent Coulson feel like he was facing a lie detector. His intuition was correct; the precision double could detect a series of states that were imperceptible to ordinary people, such as his heartbeat, sweating, skin temperature, and pupil dilation and contraction, and made judgments according to the pre-programmed procedure.
"Do you know how many ways humanity can go extinct, Coulson?" The agent tilted his head, seemingly wanting to offer an answer. However, the precise double waved his hand, rejecting the answer before it could be uttered. "Not nuclear bombs, not plagues, not economic crises, or global warming. These are all insurmountable obstacles for the current human race, but humanity always finds a way to survive. Nuclear winter, food crises, and rising sea levels are not enough to destroy all of humanity and turn humans back into beasts. Our ancestors faced far more difficult predicaments, but they still survived, reproduced, and continued civilization, so we can do it too, and we can do it even better."
"Are you trying to tell me about the arrival of that alien fleet?"
"I know this sounds absurd to anyone, but you believe it's true, right?"
"Yes, I believe you, and I believe you will prepare for this. It's always been this way; you're always preparing for dangers others haven't yet detected." Agent Coulson nodded. "The Asgardians are real, the Chitauri invaded New York, the Dark Elves invaded London, and now an alien fleet is attempting to invade the solar system—what's so strange about that? But if you say an alien fleet will destroy all of humanity…"
"Don't expect the Asgardians to be of any help; they are already struggling to survive themselves, not to mention that their blood ties with humans are themselves an attempt to defy fate."
When he heard something he didn't understand, Agent Coulson didn't ignore it; instead, he remembered it well.
Through analysis and comparison of Thor's blood sample, it was found that Asgardians do indeed share some similarities with humans in their genetic sequences. However, in order to avoid political disputes at the time, S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to keep the news secret. Agent Coulson only learned about this after obtaining Nick Fury's vibranium box.
"Once the alien fleet locks the orbit, destroying all possibilities for humanity to explore outer space, humanity will be trapped on an increasingly resource-depleted Earth, and the human race will be only one step away from extinction. Moreover, the Dark Order's goal is to slaughter half the population, a sacrifice that is absolutely unacceptable. However, the crisis I'm telling you about is not closely related to the alien fleet; it could even be considered just a ripple of their invasion, but even so, it could have far more serious consequences."
"I'm listening."
"Korboy possesses a star fortress, within which resides a trade alliance of several alien races. Those disgusting creatures intend to make a fortune on Earth before the Dark Order arrives. But if they were merely a bunch of greedy alien vermin, I wouldn't need to ask for your help. One of these alien vermin is a Kree, a dove-like tycoon, whose offspring will cause humanity to completely lose Earth as its home."
The precise clone extended its palm, and a holographic projection rose from it, constructing a fragmented pattern. It was a shattered planet, with massive plates floating in the void, its dark red iron core gradually cooling. Freed from the constraints of gravity and the protection of an atmosphere, the oceans had all evaporated into ice crystals in the void, forming a giant rainbow that refracted sunlight around the remaining plates and numerous void meteorites.
"If humanity loses Earth, it means that humanity will forever become a wandering race and slaves in the universe. This will happen in the future after the Dark Order's victory, and I cannot handle this matter in my own time. Therefore, I must entrust you with gathering enough intelligence, making the right choices, finding out why humanity lost Earth, and then telling me. No matter who caused it or what disaster led to it, I swear to you that I will definitely resolve it."
"You said that's the future, I'm not going to time travel."
"That's why I must seize Beacon Base. S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't know everything stored in the warehouse, and the things needed to complete the mission happen to be at Beacon Base. If your team doesn't take it, I will launch an exploration operation." The holographic projection disappeared, and the Precision Stand said, "Originally, this journey was supposed to be led by an alien creation, but I don't trust that alien creation, nor do I trust the alien race that created it. I must control all the key points of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s entry and exit into the future to ensure that you and your team can return safely."
"What if I complete the mission?" Phil Coulson wasn't fooled; he asked the question directly. He remained as sharp as ever; even though his precision double had detected that his physical condition was far from what it used to be, Agent Coulson's mind remained perfectly clear. "You'll let S.H.I.E.L.D. go?"
"That depends on the timeline and is somewhat related to the establishment of S.H.I.E.L.D." The Precision Stand answered honestly. "When the time is right, I will show you what I showed Nick Fury. At that time, you will understand the heavy responsibility you bear, the true mission of S.H.I.E.L.D., and why my symbol is an eagle."
"You didn't give me any guarantees."
"Yes, but you have to accept it. Once the mission begins, you'll see how right I was." The precise clone accurately reflected the controller's emotions; even Agent Coulson could sense the bitterness behind the smile. "You know I've always been right, and that's the hardest part, isn't it? Now that we've arrived in Los Angeles, all you need to do is…"
"That's impossible. We need to cross the entire United States, and we've only been airborne for half an hour..." Agent Coulson gasped. "You can use magic while controlling your double?"
"As I said, this Precision Stand possesses far greater abilities than the Life-Model Decoy project. In a sense, this body is alive; that's alchemy."
