Chapter 1451 James Wesley
Chapter 1451 James Wesley (First Update)
What do history buffs do in libraries? To a large extent, they might consult local newspapers that were once published. The establishment of information systems has made this process incredibly fast, eliminating the need for extensive field research to understand local news. For Kamar-Taj, this system has been extremely helpful in her investigations; she has frequented libraries in many different cities, searching for the news she wanted and looking for clues.
It wasn't until Athena provided a clue that the fleeting glimpse on the edge of memory surfaced. Red hair, short stature, emotional instability, and ultimately, a mysterious disappearance—all these matched Athena's description. Even more conclusive evidence was that He saw the short, red-haired man again on television, and through the travelogue in the magic book, He could confirm that the long-lived individual disguised as a child might be connected to the Eternals. Although He frequently encountered immortals, the number of immortals relative to humans was far too small to be anything other than the Eternals.
He will not use the power of the Immortal City and Latvinia to handle this matter, but will use his own personal connections.
Wilson Fisk would arrange for his protégés to host parties, then add the eternal being disguised as a child to the invitation list. These were private, secret parties, small in scale and with no visitors; all that was needed was a phone call to the agent to arrange the schedule. To dispel suspicion, Wilson Fisk, a modern-day mob boss with old-fashioned Mafia tactics, attempted to invest in Hollywood, engage in philanthropy, and cultivate relationships with members of Congress, seemingly trying to legitimize his image. Until he realized that the so-called "white path" was even more corrupt than the "black path," and that presidents and members of Congress killed just as easily, only without guns.
He realized this was due to Hillary Clinton's death list and the political secrets and assassinations someone had told him—secrets that had helped him take his first steps toward controlling New York. But past methods of whitewashing were no longer suitable for this era. The FBI was still watching him, and if he wanted to ensure his financial security in this country without fear of FBI investigations, he needed to find a reliable patron, someone who could provide asylum at the federal level, not the state level. His current patron fulfilled that promise. In return for this asylum, hosting a small, secret party was not difficult.
If Wilson Fisk hadn't known his master's true identity and that he was completely different from those with public power and money, he might have thought someone was interested in the child star. After all, many wealthy people are happy to find a glamorous woman on screen or the runway in places like Hollywood, indulge themselves completely with drugs and various bodily fluids. This often happened at the infamous Marmont Hotel in Hollywood—the famous actor Heath Ledger was once found smoking cocaine on the hotel balcony, and he died of a drug overdose two years later; the then 16-year-old famous actress Natalie Wood had a relationship with her 27-year-old co-star Dennis Hopper. As one of the actresses at the Sunday afternoon pool party hosted by director Nicholas Ray (42 years old), Natalie Wood did not miss the opportunity to have a relationship with the director in order to prove that she could play a bad girl in "Rebel Without a Cause." Her behavior caused director Nicholas Ray to drastically reduce Dennis Hopper's screen time out of jealousy.
In Hollywood, anything, however chaotic and bizarre, can happen. That land, nourished by money, drugs, and vanity, can only breed madness, intrigue, and tragedy. It's not uncommon for minors to appear in such settings. While Wilson Fisk wouldn't mind orchestrating the placement of an insignificant underage star, it's only if he knows his investors share his morals and won't destroy the star's life like Francis Albert Sinatra did with Natalie Wood. Moreover, his investors might be doing this for espionage, like the weapons shipped to New York, rather than to satisfy personal desires or bribe a pedophile politician.
Sometimes Wilson Fisk even considered himself a good man. Compared to those who wielded pens, he, the gun-wielding guy, at least had some honor. He wouldn't inject underage celebrities with drugs and throw them into bed; compared to those people, he even possessed remarkably high moral standards, which is truly astonishing. He kept his promise to Vanessa: he would be a good man, at least far better than those superficially glamorous politicians.
“James, I need you to do this,” Wilson Fisk said to his assistant. “I know the FBI is still watching us, but this is perfectly legal, and they wouldn’t dare search a celebrity’s private party without evidence. The recent abuse of power has been a major headache for the New York FBI; the District Attorney and the Governor will be putting pressure on them. So, absolutely no one from our team can be at that private party, no contraband, not even alcohol. At least not openly. Do you understand?”
"Of course, I'll have a marshmallow party arranged, Boss. Milk and cookies too, and an inflatable castle if you'd like," James Wesley scribbled a sentence in his memo with a smile. As Wilson Fisk's best friend, he could easily joke with this intimidating behemoth. He was a debonair man, always impeccably dressed in a high-end suit, his hair neatly styled, showing no trace of his former street-smart past. Yet, this very refinement was enough to terrify many New York mob bosses, for his loyalty to Wilson Fisk and his own cunning made him the undisputed second-in-command.
"Perhaps we could get Eleanor Bishop to plan this. On the surface, she doesn't have much to do with us. And she's incredibly sociable; she could handle the discussions about the joint venture investment, and then we could invite some minor celebrities. That way, no one will notice who the real star is. But it's just a small party; is it really necessary to hire New York's best party planning company?"
“The main character isn’t just that minor celebrity, James. The party planner also needs to be there; that’s the real purpose of the party—to let the minor celebrity meet the party planner.” Wilson Fisk shook his head. “Although I don’t know why that person would do this, I’m sure it’s definitely not a good thing. Security is absolutely not outsourced; we’ll handle it ourselves.”
“Then I’ll transfer the security costs to a security company registered in the Cairo Islands, which will save us some money. As for the party expenses, I can package it as a charity dinner, so the party costs will go through the public accounts and should offset some taxes.” James Wesley nodded. “After all, the federal government is giving less and less support to joint construction companies. Those officials always think that Hell’s Kitchen doesn’t really need any rebuilding work. The houses here all grew out of the ground. The current situation makes it necessary for us to save money no matter what.”
"You've been complaining a lot lately, James."
"No matter what, Hell's Kitchen is my home."
