Chapter 1497 The Lunar War
Chapter 1497 The Lunar War (Part 9)
Compared to the Rogue Clan, the Centaurus Clan, with their pale blue skin, long, pointed ears, hairless bodies, and red fins, resembles aquatic creatures. This clan possesses remarkably advanced genetic engineering technology; by injecting the mutant substance Isogenesis (a genetic engineering vector) into the Terrigen Mist mutation, they can endow the Centaurus Clan with stable, targeted psionic mutations. Clan matriarch Oola Udonta, as the clan's most powerful psionicist, became one of Black Bolt's consorts and a permanent member of the Genetic Council, representing the clan's 22,000 members and sharing one-fifth of Attilan's power with the royal family.
The Centaurus clan readily agreed to Medusa's proposal.
"Five clans, two votes in favor. Onomi, the matriarch of the Chimilian clan in the White Room, cannot comment. Matriarch Evo of the Ghost clan, and Matriarch Aladi Koeke of the Villain clan—if even one of you agrees, this decision will pass." Medusa bit her lip, gazing at the clan matriarchs seated on their thrones on either side of the circular conference table. Apparently, due to the repeated defeats of the security forces sent to repel the invaders, resulting in some generators falling into enemy hands, the lighting in the Genetic Council's meeting hall was no longer as bright as before. "If Attilan falls into the hands of these unknown invaders, do you really think your clans will be safe?"
"I've received intelligence," said Evo, the Ghost Clan matriarch, slowly. "A probe detected an object from Earth forty-eight hours ago. Primitive Earthlings frequently launched satellites to observe the moon, but satellites wouldn't send intruders here unless it wasn't a satellite, but a fleet. The Earthlings have discovered us, and perhaps they've already sent all their space power here, just like their operation in the Kobo Belt."
"You mean, we had a chance to fight back? Or should we have started the war with humanity sooner, leaving this city to rule the earth?" Matriarch Aladi Koeke of the Villain Clan scoffed. "We all know some proposals have been rejected for millennia; the ascension of Attilan requires the consent of all clans. But now the invaders have arrived in Attilan, and we still can't reach a consensus in the council. There's no point in dwelling on the past. This isn't like you, Evo; I've never seen you so calm."
"I never said I disagreed with the proposal to form an army. Although the security forces can currently stop the invaders and even cause casualties, we still need an army." Matriarch Evo's crimson lizard head swayed almost imperceptibly. "I suggest that all clans abolish clan armies. Rather than having a bunch of people who don't understand each other use abilities, it's better to have trained professionals working together, but we must ensure information sharing."
"That's a very reasonable suggestion, Matriarch Evo." Medusa rarely smiled.
Ever since the security forces and youth management officers began sending devastating news of lost territory, her heart had been constantly tormented. Some scouts with special abilities—such as the Locktooth Hound, capable of both solo and teleportation—returned to the occupied territories for brief reconnaissance, and what they saw was horrifying. The security forces and engineering teams initially dispatched to maintain Attilan had all perished from heavy firearms or melee weapons. Scouts discovered numerous aircraft brutally embedded in Attilan's walls, releasing their terrifying passengers, or deploying impenetrable armored vehicles that unleashed terrifying firepower, destroying everything in their path, whether Inhumans or buildings.
Even reconnaissance wasn't always safe. The invaders deployed numerous automated intelligent defensive weapons in the occupied territory, and at least five reconnaissance soldiers were locked onto by incredibly fast fire control radar and blasted to pieces by lasers and heavy-duty live ammunition. The reconnaissance soldiers who managed to return reported that they hadn't found any living people in the occupied territory; it seemed that in order to speed up their advance, the invaders had no intention of taking prisoners.
"Perhaps you want to fight the invaders yourself?"
"Of course, of course." Matriarch Evo grinned, revealing tiny, closely spaced teeth that sent chills down one's spine.
This skin is suffocating me. The assassin, disguised as Mother Evo, thought: These mutants have finally realized they should unite, but it's too late. I just hope my comrades can complete their missions. Among these people, who else is wearing a mutant's skin like me? I just hope the decay slows down and the attack speeds up; the validity of this identity depends on the rate of microbial reproduction. Perhaps I should go back somewhere and hide the body parts in industrial alcohol to dehydrate them?
"If Black Bolt cannot lead the clan alliance, then I propose that each clan send a general to lead its own army." Matron Evo looked at the rogue clan with a defiant gaze. "I am the general of the Ghost Clan. And you, Matron Aladi Koeker? Would you like to compare kill counts with me?"
“Black Bolt will lead the Genetic Council’s security forces; he will represent everyone in the fight.” Medusa blinked her beautiful eyes, but the other clan matriarchs were disgusted by this featureless mutation. In their eyes, it was a symbol of lowliness; only non-human characteristics represented nobility. Even though Medusa herself was one of the royal representatives, it couldn’t change the fact that she came from a lowly commoner background. “I need you to stay here, Matriarch Evo, for information sharing.”
She pointed to the holographic projection in the center of the circular conference table. The red area in the azure photon projection of Attilan city indicated that it had fallen into enemy hands. Here, everyone could see that the famous White Room system of the Chimilian clan matriarch Onomi had fallen, the smallest Kree clan had been completely wiped out, and the Centaurus clan's residential areas and factories were being visibly turned red. The breached roads led directly to the clan's gene labs and generators.
"It's time we told our subjects the truth. At this rate, the entire city will fall in less than five hours. Those invaders want nothing but death; everything our ancestors built will be reduced to ashes." Medusa pointed to another holographic projection, a silhouette of a genetically modified warrior wielding a gun and a chainsaw sword, showcasing the invaders' violence and technological prowess. "If possible, I plan to distribute weapons to the civilians. I believe those old weapons can still be used."
Medusa did not mention that she had already instructed the clan's genetic laboratory to begin analyzing the invaders' genes.
“I will send a representative to remain here.” Madam Evo stood up. The assassin bowed slightly, but offered little respect. Her imitation was remarkably accurate, as she had spent considerable time closely observing Madam Evo's every move, from her accent and manner of speaking to the subtle gesture of touching her sharp claws—all to prevent other creatures familiar with Madam Evo from noticing anything amiss. However, she also tried to stay as far away from the Locktooth dog as possible. It was common knowledge that this royal pet's lineage and genetic engineering were not simple—unbeknownst to the assassin—if Maya Hansen were here, she would clearly point out that similar experiments had been conducted on pet dogs within the Skysword Space Station—the only difference being that the dog wouldn't be dressed, fitted with glasses, or subjected to a microscope, something the Locktooth dog's sister, a canine scientist, had done.
"You should understand one thing, Medusa, you and I have the same rights. To be precise, I am more noble than you. You cannot deprive me of the joy of fighting, nor can you interfere with whom we clan matriarchs choose to perform the rite of conception. After all, every female must become the consort of the next king, right?"
“I’ve tried natural conception, and the strong males in the clan are very enthusiastic,” Matriarch Aladi Koeker chuckled. “If Blackbolt doesn’t mind, I could try with him too. You can’t always have his mutant genes to yourself, girl. We have the right to introduce the Terrigen Mist mutant genes into the clan; that’s what makes us exist, isn’t it?”
