Chapter 1499 The Lunar War
Chapter 1499 The Lunar War (XI)
Aparishia grinned, emerging from the shadows alongside his lieutenant Nelson and the other blood-soaked knights, like a hellish demon born of a massive shadow beast, taking its first steps toward vengeance on the human world. Aparishia's battle robes were soaked in deep red blood, the edges of the fireproof fabric now appearing even heavier. Apart from Aparishia and Nelson, the other knights remained silent, their power armor blackened by dried blood. "I'm interested in soiling his gleaming power armor. You can't stop me, you know that. Even with his exceptional combat skills and the Emperor's gift of the Royal Guard's halberd, I'll still give it a try."
"Wait!" Lieutenant Nelson suddenly said, "New operational orders."
"Malcolm?"
"Yes, the spies planted by the Regent have worked," said Lieutenant Nelson. "Intelligence indicates that the Attilan clan is organizing a counterattack, and it's definitely not the ragtag army we've encountered before. Command has activated Delta-C contingency plan, and the Second Combat Group is reinforcing its defenses. We can now begin ordering the First Combat Group to set up the killing field."
Upon hearing this, Aparisha also activated the command chain within his helmet, its presence feeling like an obstacle to the operation. Despite his impatience, he reviewed the changes to the military deployment in the Delta-C plan. The heavy freight elevators from the 70th to the 146th floors remained under the control of the Second Combat Group, but Malcolm opted to consolidate his defenses in the clan residential areas, light industrial areas, generator and commercial areas, and most importantly, the royal residences, from the 146th to the 189th floors.
According to the original plan, the 20 assault squads of Aparishar's First Combat Group were to capture the aforementioned targets in the shortest possible time. However, Malcolm has now decided to abandon the clan residential area, the clan light industrial area, and the royal residential area, and instead set up the killing field between the clan light industrial area and the generator station. His reasoning is that these locations require a significant amount of time for indoor warfare—an ironic statement, as they are currently engaged in indoor warfare, and Malcolm refers to Attilan's "indoors"—the killing field chosen by command will be an inevitable route for the clan alliance. Even though no one knows how this information came about, it is certain that the plan has received the Emperor's approval.
Every genetically modified warrior had witnessed the Emperor's battlefield planning abilities, which could be described in a superstitious way—a way that would invite severe reprimands or even flogging—as destiny itself. The Emperor's battlefield planning was almost prophetic; his battle orders were so specific that they could be given to each individual genetically modified warrior. Even a complete idiot who could only pull a trigger could achieve victory simply by following orders. Although the Emperor never exercised such power again after the genetically modified warriors became organized units, every genetically modified warrior still firmly believed in the Emperor's myth of invincibility.
“I obey discipline,” Aparishia said viciously. “There’s always something to kill, isn’t there?”
"I bet two bombs we can get support from fire support and armored units," Lieutenant Nelson said in a rough voice.
She was like a black snake, once wriggling in the pipes.
She has only one number as her name, something uniquely hers in the world, the only thing that brings her satisfaction besides being the Emperor's hidden blade. The number is her anchor, allowing her to maintain her identity through countless changes and disguises; it's the instruction she uses to understand and remember her missions. She is the Emperor's hidden blade, hunting down corrupt officials who attempt to defect, eliminating informants from rival intelligence agencies, and reducing entire underground intelligence networks to ashes. No one has ever caught her, because she can be anyone. She is WD-15, once a woman, a few hours ago a woman, a day ago a man.
She is not an expert in information research on the commoner clans of Attilan.
"The Genetic Council demands we evacuate immediately, Sophie!" An Inhuman, whose appearance was almost indistinguishable from a human, hurried past her. "Come help me move these things, we can't lose these samples! These are samples brought back from the front lines by the Locktooth Hound, they'll help us understand the enemy."
"What about all this equipment?" Sophie asked urgently. Her ability was quite interesting: promoting cell regeneration. Although she lacked direct combat skills, she had used her knowledge and abilities to get a job in the clan's genetic research lab. "We can't just abandon this valuable equipment!"
"Never mind those devices. The experimental data has already been uploaded to the royal server. Now I can only pray that these treasures won't be destroyed after we drive away the invaders. Somehow those Earthlings discovered our existence. We should have persuaded Black Bolt to attack Earth a long time ago. Those barbarians... But it's okay, the clans have finally reached an agreement. All the Inhumans with combat capabilities have set out to fight the invaders. The war will be over soon."
The man, his back to her, placed rows of cell culture dishes into his briefcase. "These samples are the most valuable thing right now; they're our only way to understand those genetically modified humans. Hurry, the Royal Security Forces are waiting for us. We must get the data from these samples; Black Bolt needs them." He paused abruptly, seemingly unable to look at his researcher. "Forgive me, I shouldn't have been so hasty, Sophie. The Lower City residential area (the technicians' quarters near the generators) has fallen. Frontline intelligence claims there are no survivors there. I know what that means, but don't worry too much. Your mother will be alright. I don't believe the intruders had time to break into every room and kill everyone."
"I hope so too," Sophie said, gently placing her hand on the middle-aged man's shoulder. A smile appeared on his sweat-drenched face. Just as she had expected, there was a different atmosphere between the two shy geneticists. Even though this was something the Genetic Council explicitly prohibited, for commoner clans with diverse abilities and no stable mutation characteristics, the Genetic Council's ban on eugenics wasn't so strict. The infinite potential of diverse mutations was the foundation of commoner clans. They could apply to the royal family, and under normal circumstances, the royal family would never refuse such a request.
But the wrist blade that shot out shattered the man's illusions. The sharp blade pierced straight into his cervical vertebrae, precisely severing cartilage, nerves, and blood vessels, cutting off his voice and control over his body. Sophie carefully supported his shoulders and gently laid him on the ground. In the man's fading vision, he saw Sophie's appearance deform like clay, eventually transforming into a form identical to his. "Your identity is equally precious," she said, staring intently into the man's fading eyes. "There is no Sophie in this laboratory. Only you, Mr. Quanfang."
The Guardians halted before the Throne District, the assembly point for one-fifth of the First Combat Group's assault squads and half of the Second Combat Group's armored forces. A kilometer further along, through corridors and freight elevators, lay the colossal dome piercing the void and the small shield protecting it. This force of only twenty-five men, plus the Emperor, was the fastest advancing of all the assault teams. Unless they encountered alien wizards, the Emperor would not intervene, and every battle involving alien wizards would end with the Emperor single-handedly slaughtering all the mutants, without exception. Even Aura could only rest his finger on the trigger guard of his heavy pyrotechnic gun, his face filled with worry as he awaited the next blast-proof airlock to unleash the flames meant for incinerating wizards onto the metal and concrete.
Information from the chain of command indicated that only the two assault squads led by Aparisha possessed a record second only to the Royal Guard. These were assault squads with specialized anti-phantom training, renowned for their ruthlessness, extreme violence, and absolute obedience, earning them a place in the Emperor's memory. Aparisha himself had received numerous commendations from the Emperor, his accumulating honors second only to Commander Malcolm, who had planned and advised on many battles alongside the Royal Guard.
They need to stop for a while and wait for their prey to arrive.
Before they could finally face the king of Attilan, they needed to eliminate all of Attilan's military forces in one fell swoop.
