Chapter 1503 The Lunar War
Chapter 1503 The Lunar War (XV)
"I'm pretty sure those mutants with teleportation abilities will be gathering here. You saw the list: Locktooth and that eyeless Inhuman from the Earth Afterlife Inhuman base. Each potential location needs a combat squad to scout, and we also need to help the tactical support squad control key routes and establish firing positions."
Amon pointed to several labels on the data panel and communicated with his adjutant, Nelson. Their location was quite spacious, with a dozen armored vehicles waiting behind them. This was D assembly point, primarily facing attacks from the civilian clans. If the civilian clans wanted to retake facilities such as generators and water purification plants, they would need to pass through here; simply sending a small force would be ineffective—while the civilian clans weren't highly mutated, they possessed a wide variety of abilities, and their coordinated attacks were extremely powerful. Compared to other clans with obviously mutated appearances, any seemingly unremarkable member of the civilian clan could be an extremely dangerous creature, requiring the genetically modified warriors to spend more time assessing and dealing with them.
This will be the most difficult battle of the entire campaign.
The Emperor's armored command vehicle arrived at Rally D under the cover of the Second Battle Group, serving as one of the information hubs of this war. All the assault teams of the First Battle Group and the armored forces of the Second Battle Group would re-form a large-scale offensive here, striking the main residential areas, political and military centers of the Attilans. The reason why the battle facing Rally D is called the most difficult battle, rather than the battle against other clans, is largely due to the population of the Commoner Clan and the uncertainty of the clan's genetic mutations. Due to the Commoner Clan's characteristic of judging social status by ability and the unique chemical properties of Terrigen, the Commoner Clan has long monopolized the dominance of the Genetic Council, and the Genetic Council's ruler will inevitably fight against them on the front lines.
In other words, the D rally point will be the front line against the strongest Inhuman.
If not for the mistakes made in the previous battle, Aparisha would have insisted on standing here as the Emperor's vanguard against the king of the Attilan Inhumans. He would not allow himself to lose such honor, but now, the urgency to erase the shame far outweighed honor. "Although the intelligence from our spies is always very reliable, according to their understanding of Attilan, the fact that the clans act independently may lead to some clan armies acting unexpectedly, and we are unable to obtain timely feedback," Amon said. "The Ranger scouts have now been deployed, and they have set up information reconnaissance units. Through the information relayed here, we can confirm that the various clans of Attilan are actively tightening their defenses. From the intercepted information, it seems that all Attilans are retreating towards the Gene Council. The Second Combat Group will conduct armed reconnaissance, and the Second and Third Regiments will ascertain the enemy's military deployment. Although these two regiments are not large, I believe their commanders can accomplish their mission."
The adjutants of the second and third regiments were communicating with Hammurabi and Hannibal about the upcoming military operations, with only Constantine truly by the Emperor's side. This frontline command had no fixed location; after finalizing the military arrangements, the first, second, and third battle groups would continue their missions. In any organization composed of mortals, this situation would be perceived as favoritism and abuse of power, but for the Praetorian Guard, it was the Emperor's recognition of Constantine's military expertise.
The Guardians were the emperor's advisory council, far more reliable than the council.
"Aparishia has pledged to kill the Chimilian and Centaur clans within a set timeframe." As the adjutant to the commander of the First Regiment, Lieutenant Nelson took on the responsibility of coordinating military operations with the Royal Guard. Like Aparishia, his heart was equally dark. As a veteran of the Afghan battlefield and one of the best mercenaries, Lieutenant Nelson had honed formidable military skills in past battles, but his pursuit of military honor was the same as Aparishia's. "I believe he can do it. After all, he now commands over five hundred knights, one hundred and fifty rangers, and twenty Sisters of the Clan heavy weapons operators. Each area has been allocated the same strength, but he is now consumed by hatred and determined to avenge the Archaeopteryx Squad. Everything at Rally B is what he needs; he can do it."
"Where's Randolph? I've discovered that your heavy weapons personnel are now directly under Aparisha's command."
"Dead, looks terrible. An alien witch killed him." Lieutenant Nelson blinked coldly. Although slightly shorter than the Royal Guard, his imposing presence was no less impressive; in fact, he was even more like a cold-blooded killing machine than the Royal Guard. He didn't even smile. Amon nodded gently, continuing to listen to Lieutenant Nelson's report. Although losing a skilled 30mm explosive cannon operator and another leader of the Destroyer army at the command level was an irreparable loss, the war had to continue until the First Legion selected Randolph's successor. "According to intelligence from spies, it was very likely the leader of the Chimilian clan. Aparisha didn't know this at the time, but now he does and is ashamed of it. He can't tolerate missing the opportunity to kill the enemy leader due to a mistake."
"You should know that the emperor won't indulge his personal ideas, right?"
“You are not above me in the chain of command, messenger. I will personally plead with the Emperor,” Lieutenant Nelson said solemnly. “I do not believe the Emperor would fail to understand a soldier’s thoughts. You are not a soldier, Amon. You are merely a bodyguard, not the one making the decisions. You would not understand the extent to which this damages the honor of the First Legion. I will not forgive myself, nor will Aparisha.”
The reports the emperor reviewed were not entirely battle reports.
Now, the First Combat Group has cleared the outer generator sets as planned, which will cut off the power supply to Attilan's food processing plants and waterworks. They have also taken control of the heavy freight elevators, allowing the armored forces of the Second Combat Group to be transported to the upper levels of Attilan. The Second Combat Group has sealed off the factories on the lower levels maintained by Alpha Primitives and some Inhuman workers. The assassins have also destroyed the food supply factories and the Alpha Primitives' drugged water sources. The riots on the lower levels and the control of the freight elevators are enough to plunge Attilan into a complete shortage of resources. If Attilan's artificial gravity core were not powered by the Gene Council's generator sets, the entire Attilan could be in a low-gravity environment. The Third Combat Group—a mixed force consisting of auxiliary forces from the First, Second, and Third Secret Regiments, 200 Sorority combatants, and 100 genetically modified warriors—is transporting food and water here. The Emperor and His genetically modified warriors have enough time to besiege the Attilan Inhumans, but the Attilan Inhumans have no time to delay.
The spy's report claimed that the Genetic Council had not stockpiled any supplies or made any related plans. The food supply for the five clan settlements of Attilan consisted solely of what was available in the settlements themselves; water was supplied only by a few water towers reserved for the royal family and the upper classes; and the oxygen circulation system was aging. With water supplies cut off, power outages, and even the oxygen circulation plant forced to shut down, the Attilan Inhumans were inevitably heading towards extinction unless they attacked the rallying point and defeated the Emperor and his warriors.
The report submitted by Amon has the electronic tag of the Guardian Order.
"It's not surprising that Aparishia and Nelson have such thoughts, given their Type I psychological model," He said. "The Attilan royal family now believes that Earthlings discovered Attilan and intend to destroy the Attilans. I hope all of Attilan's engines are shut down right now, because in the subsequent plans, the Attilan Genetic Council intends to destroy us, and then destroy Earth or drop the Terrigen warheads. No clan has objected."
“I don’t understand, my lord,” Constantine said. “This is the first phase of the operation, and Aparishia has already taken all the secondary reactors on the outer perimeter of Attilan offline. Why are you bringing this up again?”
"I'm making excuses for myself, Constantine. Even though I've made up my mind, I still need a moral compass to satisfy myself." Without hesitation, He dissected His own soul, tearing out His deepest, most raw emotions. "This sin shouldn't be borne by anyone else. I will face Black Bolt and the Genetic Council, killing them to atone for my sin—a sin I willingly bear for the survival of humanity." He said, "It won't happen again, I promise you."
