Chapter 1517 The Lunar War

Chapter 1517 The Lunar War (Twenty-Nine)

The orbital trains serve as bridges connecting clan settlements with each other, as well as food processing plants and industrial facilities. These rail systems may have originally been used within Starfortress for transporting supplies and coordinating personnel, but after the Inhumans moved them to the Moon and established it as a permanent settlement, they took on entirely new uses. Emergency power supplies for Starfortresses after attacks and damage became backup power for the rail systems. For a long time, the Attiran Inhumans were unable to inspect these facilities—don't expect the modern Inhumans to understand all the programs and numbers written in Kree script; even the Centaur clan's electromechanical expert brought by Black Bolt might not have fully comprehended the instructions written in alien script.

In short, even mechanical experts need to rely on ancestral records to start and maintain it, which is bound to be slow. Tetanus impatiently nudged the mechanical expert's rear with its head, forcing the latter to throw a watery look at Black Bolt. "Sorry, it's Tetanus's playtime now," Black Bolt smiled and gestured. "It wants to play with you. If it doesn't expend its energy, it won't be so well-behaved at night."

"My suggestion is to have a castration surgery."

The Centaur electromechanical expert logged into the system with administrator privileges to check how many backup generators were online and whether their fuel cells were still usable. Considering that Starfortress couldn't obtain power from elsewhere after the attack, these backup generators were designed to use nuclear fuel cells. Now, the expert could only hope that the fuel rods hadn't reached their half-life; after all, when the fuel rods were last replaced, their great-great-grandfathers were still several base pairs.

"I believe its sister, who has tetanus, will support this decision." The electromechanical expert watched the giant Shar-Pei's expression grow increasingly fierce, as if it were about to open its mouth at any moment and plunge its sharp teeth into the expert's calves, which were covered in protective clothing and scales. "It's said that its sister is a researcher at the Genetic Council, isn't she? I think I've seen her before, wearing a researcher's uniform and a pair of large, round-framed glasses; she looked very cute. It's going to bite me, Your Majesty!"

Black Bolt patted Tetanus's head.

"Make him finish his work," he gestured, "and then you bite him."

"I can read sign language, Your Majesty." The electromechanical expert remained focused on the screen, the red fin-like organ on his head slowly opening, his noseless face taut with blue skin. "I know what you said to Tetanus."

Black Bolt smiled and gestured, "I know."

Many magical books on Earth use coded language, hints, and metaphors as barriers to reading and understanding, or they employ wordplay, allusions from other books, or even direct codes. In short, aside from travelogues and rumors written by authors and pseudo-editors using words like "heard," "supposedly," "maybe," and "probably," the truly knowledgeable parts require a certain reading threshold to understand, especially many books written in ideographic script. Derrick, having received his education, knew that Earth's magical texts were not applicable to the entire galaxy, but wizards always kept their knowledge secret, because "secrecy" itself was a kind of power and symbol for them.

This is why the Emperor repeatedly warned the Royal Guard to be wary of witchcraft. When clusters of photoreceptor cells come together, the act of "seeing" is born. Therefore, for wizards, the act of "seeing" itself is a symbol, through which they can perform witchcraft—but they cannot be superstitious about it. If they don't believe, then the outer dimension will weaken, and the witchcraft will lose its effect. Derrick first looked down at the blood-stained boots, repeatedly confirming that it wasn't some special witchcraft or rune, and there were no curses he had ever seen. He ordered the power armor's safety systems to perform a self-check, then turned on the power to burn away the sticky blood clinging to the blades, strode past the corpse of mutant sample 162, and continued to follow in the footsteps of the genetically modified warriors.

Gronov Rutov's squad's trajectory partially overlapped with his mission route, but Derrick did not participate in the entire battle. He had to conserve ammunition and energy to face the possible guards in the library in the best possible condition. The highest priority tasks of destroying the Chimilian clan's shield and calling in bombers and artillery support remained unchanged. He had to ensure that the second-highest priority tasks were completed while also ensuring that the highest priority tasks were completed.

Derrick didn't question where the Emperor had obtained the information; he trusted the Emperor wouldn't err on such matters. Even if the Emperor had acquired the information through psychic powers, the Royal Guard didn't see it as a bad thing. He believed the Emperor had the right judgment regarding the endless lies of the outer dimensions. He also wouldn't deny to the Emperor that he had shown mercy to the severely wounded Chimilian mutant. For such thoroughly twisted genetically engineered beings, death was the best outcome. He believed this was what the Emperor wanted the Royal Guard to do: maintain compassion and humanity in a cruel world, even if the Royal Guard themselves lacked anything that could be called humanity.

In the dark corridor, streaks of light shot out rapidly, disappearing into the endless shadows and exploding into bursts of fire, illuminating the blurry figures of enemies. First Legion heavy weapons operators stood on either side of the passage, using the walls as cover, skillfully flooding the corridor with explosives. A five-man squad passed by, firing as they quickened their pace, passing several mutant corpses shattered and burned by explosives, before stopping at the next corner.

Silently and skillfully, they controlled each key traffic node. With a tactical encrypted signal sent, an armored vehicle equipped with laser cannons and explosive machine guns emerged from the passage opposite them. After a brief exchange, the armored vehicle immediately moved in, blocking one side of the passage. Tactical squads armed with chainsaw swords and explosive guns unleashed fire from both sides of the armored vehicle until tactical support arrived, at which point the armored vehicle turned and headed for its next target location.

A fully information-based battlefield allows commanders to track the location of every soldier. With the aid of information gathered from early reconnaissance, power armor and information technology can provide commanders with a significant advantage. However, Hammurabi knew that the emperor, now sitting in his command vehicle surveying the entire battlefield, was more concerned with a certain battlefield he could not contact.

The Emperor had his own way of observing the battlefield, much like how he used supernatural powers beyond information technology to carefully observe everything happening in the world. However, this wasn't one of the Emperor's greatest secrets. The Emperor had his own plan for the Attilan base, a plan that far exceeded everyone's imagination. The busy Martian technicians hadn't considered why they needed to reorganize the servers of the Attilan main generator, or why the genetically modified warriors' primary target wasn't the energy shield core but the generator itself. Hammurabi saw the Emperor place his hand on the table, his gaze no longer focused on the various data displayed on the tactical information panel.

He looked at another data panel, an interface with only one line of commands.

The file opened by this command is named Ultron.
