Chapter 1561 The Lunar War

Chapter 1561 The Lunar War (Seventy-Three)

"I'm certain they know my plan, but not all of it. Because those calculation models for the future haven't been created yet, and I will refine them thoroughly in the past." The Emperor's words puzzled the sorcerer Hamil. Although he was one of the highest-ranking sorcerers in Kamar-Taj, the Emperor hadn't entrusted him with all the secrets. It was Victor von Doom, who had left Kamar-Taj, who understood the Emperor's words. "For them, that calculation model is not yet established; there are too many possibilities. Even with their omniscience, they cannot create a stone they cannot lift. This means we still have an advantage. This remaining advantage, I must utilize."

"What are you planning to do now?" Venerable Hamil asked eagerly. "His Holiness has already returned to Kamar-Taj. You can discuss any plans with him, can't you?"

An indescribable expression appeared on the emperor's face.

"It can't be anymore, Master Hamil."

When the mage Hamil pressed further, He offered no specific reason. His expression returned to normal and remained unchanged, so much so that the mage considered casting a detection spell—though he knew it was futile, but had no other choice—to determine if the Emperor was lying. However, under Constantine's stern gaze, the mage ultimately refrained from wielding his prosthetic arm. After all, the Royal Guard never allowed anyone to cast psionic arcane magic on the Emperor, even a minor, harmless, and almost frivolous spell was considered extremely dangerous by the Royal Guard. After all, the Emperor had already demonstrated to the Royal Guard how to hijack minds to cast arcane spells; even a spell that could only create a fleeting firework could instantly become a portal to summon monsters.

"Don't you trust the Supreme Master?" asked the monk Hamil.

"I will always trust the Sorcerer Supreme, but only the Sorcerer Supreme. This is a secret, nothing more."

The emperor paused for a moment, then reached out and unbuckled the time bubble.

The spent shell casings from the distant anti-aircraft guns barely touched the ground when the roar of artillery and explosive guns, seemingly coming from afar, combined to create a deafening, chaotic explosion. A torrent of plasma, lasers, and explosives then rained down on the distant Inhuman city, illuminating it completely from the shadows. The Emperor stared at the Inhuman city in the darkness. The dense buildings, peeled away layer by layer under the onslaught of artillery fire, revealed their fatal core to Him. He could hear the cries and wails of the wounded beneath the rubble, and the angry shouts of some, but these sounds were quickly drowned out by even more horrifying screams of pain. He could hear the battle cries of the genetically modified warriors; hundreds of meters away, the slaughter continued relentlessly.

"Do you remember what the Venerable One's last research was before leaving Earth? That research was too deadly for beings from other dimensions; they would be keeping a close eye on the Venerable One... The Venerable One did this to buy us time and divert their attention. If we revealed it to the Venerable One, it would inevitably be a leak."

"I'll accept this explanation for now."

The emperor nodded, his gaze still fixed on the distance.

Only after a shockwave shattered rows of building wreckage did he reach for the holy sword at his waist. "Summon the Royal Guard, activate the hovercraft. I promised Black Bolt I would give him a dignified death; now is the time to fulfill that promise."

Maximus gripped the greatsword tightly in his right hand and held the priestess's head in his left.

Several corpses lay before him, the stench of dying creatures unbearable, yet Maximus stood before the platform undergoing the ritual. When Maximus realized he was perfectly at ease in this environment, he subconsciously examined his mind, trying to detect any implanted psychological suggestions. However, the thought quickly vanished the moment he realized what he was doing—Periel was indeed his bridegroom, albeit a headless corpse—while the scene was gruesome to others, it was part of the ritual to these cultists. Maximus felt nothing, even satisfaction. Having given up on thought, he experienced everything as if through a thick layer of frosted glass, until the ritual ended, and the cultists removed the priestess's head, placing it along with the body into the sarcophagus. Only then did Maximus awaken as if from a dream, blinking his eyes.

With the help of his followers, he donned new ceremonial attire, adorned with a new symbol: a symbol representing the singularity of the Big Bang, a symbol representing the existence of deities before the birth of the universe, and a symbol representing the eternity of truth. Maximus's intuitively drawn symbol was a simplified version of this one, imbued with deeper meaning and greater sacredness in the ritual, for it contained the names of all the gods.

A loud voice pierced through the collapsed buildings, reaching the temple along with the shockwaves of exploding shells; the high notes amidst the carnage were indistinguishable. Even though the voice was utterly unfamiliar, his bloodline instincts told him it belonged to his brother, Black Bolt. Maximus looked up, his gaze seemingly able to pierce through the decks and corpses to see his brother.

"I will see his death," he thought. "I should go and witness the fall of the usurper."

"This is your right, but not now."

"This is my right, the right of the King of Attilan."

"You are not yet."

"Your Majesty?" The armed men who had followed Maximus to the temple no longer concealed their religious identities. In their eyes, Maximus now possessed dominion over both the spiritual and material worlds. "When do we depart?"

"Now, I will witness the fall of the usurper..."

Maximus descended the slippery steps, his hand gripping the silver greatsword tightly. Only now did he notice the black smoke, like writhing worms, swirling around the blade, a sight that stung his eyes. "No, not now." The armed cultist didn't notice the expression on Maximus's face—a twisted, defiant look, but well-hidden. Through constant self-suggestion, Maximus managed to temporarily control his facial muscles. "Proceed as planned. The usurper will surely die by the invader's sword. I need more power. To seize the lower decks, to bring your gospel into the darkness, to bring the light of truth to those who will never see the sun. This is our power."

The genetically modified warriors encountered unprecedented obstacles in advancing the civilian clan front.

As is well known, no man-portable anti-tank missile used by humans on Earth can penetrate the highly heat-resistant micro-explosive reactive armor plates of genetically modified warriors. Armored vehicle armor made of similar materials can also withstand attacks from metal jets, and armored vehicles possess even more powerful reactive armor. In tests conducted by technicians in the Immortal City, even naval cannons could not penetrate the armor plates. However, this time, the sudden large-scale sonic attack directly disabled several armored vehicles, shattering all the internal electronic components, and even causing metal fatigue in the mechanical parts.

The genetically modified soldiers immediately activated the manual switch, opened the car door, and got out to fight the enemy.

Fort Attilan is an extremely complex battlefield environment. They encounter various forms of attack, including but not limited to psionic, plasma, and laser attacks. They have even encountered mutants who are unkillable and possess rapid regeneration. Faced with this situation, the genetically modified soldiers immediately devised a solution. But as they stepped off their armored vehicles and mounted their explosive rifles on their shields, another sonic attack followed, slamming the heavily armored genetically modified soldiers away as if a speeding train had crashed into them.
