Chapter 1570 The Lunar War
Chapter 1570 The Lunar War (Eighty-Two)
This time, she managed to make out what the world looked like.
All the physical laws established by humans and even intelligent beings in the universe are meaningless here. Distance, front, back, up, down, left, and right are completely chaotic. Objects beyond the geometrical common sense of three-dimensional life are everywhere, these geometric shapes transcending the framework of mathematical dimensions. Nothing here is permanent; the movement of objects is utterly unpredictable. She saw several planet-sized spheres slowly moving in the etheric waves. These planets were constantly eroded by the etheric energy, climate changed, the earth cracked, and the atmosphere could become ocean in the next second, only to return to its original state immediately afterward. Cause and effect do not hold true in this world, meaning that time in this world is not linear. Color does not exist in this world; she understands that the colors she sees are merely imaginings that her self-awareness can accept. The indescribable, eternally unknown is a terror she can never comprehend in this lifetime.
No one can describe the colors of the sky, flowers, and rivers to a born blind person, nor can anyone describe the horrors of this outer dimension to someone who has never witnessed this hell. Even if all human writers used their most brilliant pens to depict this world on parchment, those words would still appear barren, unable to accurately summarize the world's appearance. The word "accuracy" has no connection to this dimension, because nothing in this dimension can be called "accurate." Everything here is beyond the wildest imagination of humankind on Earth. This universe, seemingly a product of the frenzied fantasies of a mentally ill person and an addict who has overdosed on hallucinogen receptors and reached the fifth plateau, is a landscape that even the most eccentric Dada artist could not depict. All humans who attempt to explore this world are as ridiculous as two-dimensional beings searching for bullet holes in the shooter's hypothesis.
Ignorance is the strongest protection when facing this world. Jia Ying felt a splitting headache and was on the verge of a mental breakdown after only touching a little of the mysteries of deep space. But the arrival of Hengxing changed everything. Stable, orderly floating islands extended outwards from beneath her feet, and white marble plazas formed and combined out of thin air beneath her. Chaotic etheric energy was still constantly eroding the land of the floating islands, but the rare order still brought a sense of security. Jia Ying saw the emperor use his power to build a magnificent golden palace, with tall spires that plunged straight into the etheric waves above, dispelling whispers with roaring thunder, like a god standing in a storm.
"This is a temporary measure."
Jia Ying didn't see the emperor speak; she heard his voice in her mind. In fact, she didn't know where the emperor was at that moment. She only knew that a huge star hung high above her, and every beam of light seemed to be an incarnation of the emperor. Any spiritual energy entity formed in this dimension that approached would be burned into the purest spiritual energy and completely vanish. In this world, the form of the material universe was unimportant.
"You do not possess the ability or wisdom to explore the mysteries of this world with me, but you must be aware of the real threats we face, and you can also see the predicament Attilan faces from this perspective."
Jia Ying didn't speak; her recently stabilized mental state and willpower didn't support her doing this.
She agreed with the emperor. If she could, she wouldn't want to stay here for even a second longer. She knew some people would rather die after gazing at the sky than bow their heads forever—a sentiment that could be summed up as "hearing the truth in the morning, one can die content in the evening." But at this moment, she only wanted to tell those people that some things were better left unknown. She saw the spaceships that had escaped from the planets dragged into this dimension experience millions of years in just a few seconds, decaying and growing limbs and organs from their smooth steel.
This is definitely not a normal phenomenon.
In the vast distance of space—perhaps overhead, perhaps ahead—Jiaying couldn't be sure. Her only frame of reference was that star and the magnificent complex of buildings. But in this terrifying world, even the grand palaces, far surpassing all the buildings on Earth, appeared insignificant—a colossal vortex was slowly rotating, its center glowing with a filthy, nauseating light. Deep within the vortex, a gigantic, semi-illusory entity stretched its ever-changing, sizing form like a splash of paint in flowing water, surrounded by countless small, noisy spiritual entities.
They waved their deformed limbs, howled wildly, and desperately grabbed at the animals that surged out of the whirlpool.
At first, Jia Ying couldn't make out what it was, but as her desire to see clearly grew stronger, the distance between her and the vortex began to shrink. Jia Ying didn't notice how long it took her to get closer; it could be a second, an instant, or even a hundred years. When she finally saw what was emerging from the vortex, all those questions became irrelevant. She saw translucent objects with human and otherworldly faces being seized by terrifying monsters near the vortex. They tore them to pieces and swallowed them whole. As they swallowed, the largest monster at the center of the vortex twisted more and more, and the other monsters became increasingly noisy—this sight reminded Jia Ying of the time she spent with Carl Jensen. Although Carl Jensen wasn't superstitious, his upbringing had led him to be a Protestant, and he often told Jia Ying stories from the Bible.
Jiaying believes that the scene she saw is the description in the Bible, and those things are the human soul.
She failed to notice that only one human soul, protected by the monsters, remained untouched.
"My Royal Guard once hunted a projection of that monster in the material universe, right here in Attilan. Now it will truly descend upon the material universe, bringing horrific slaughter and bloodshed. I desperately want to stop it, but this dimension has no concept of time or causality. It has already descended upon the material universe when we begin to observe it, because we can only observe its changes when it does so, like Schrödinger's cat. In fact, you could say it descended upon the material universe even before it did so. It is the true enemy of the Attilan campaign; the Inhumans are merely appetizers. The lives lost in the war will help that monster be born in the material plane."
Jia Ying didn't know what Schrödinger's cat was, so the Emperor sent her a memory and his own understanding. This knowledge didn't involve the observer effect in quantum mechanics, and Jia Ying, who possessed basic logical thinking skills, quickly understood the relationship between half-life and cats.
"This is a trap set for me, but the Battle of Attilan must begin. Now I can choose the battlefield instead of letting this happen on Earth, to take some initiative and minimize the damage, even if it means the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, it's better than being forced to kill millions of people. This is the reality I face, and the basic principle for making decisions is helplessness."
"When faced with two evils, choose the lesser one."
"Yes."
The magnificent palace gates, hundreds of meters high, slowly opened, and the emperor, holding a gun and a sword, stepped out.
Previously, the distance was too great for Jia Ying to notice anything amiss, but as the emperor approached, she realized his height was constantly expanding, just like when she had encountered the steel giant before. Jia Ying recalled the emperor's teachings, but she couldn't control herself as freely as she did in her dream. The emperor stood beside Jia Ying, gazing down at the distant vortex—Jia Ying realized she wasn't even as tall as the emperor's boots—and then the giant in golden armor raised his golden spear as if wielding a solidified bolt of lightning. He hurled the spear with force, and golden lightning instantly struck the colossal monster at the center of the vortex, the surging electricity violently destroying the surrounding spiritual entities, unleashing his boundless rage.
He strode into the dark vortex, the white marble plaza stretching out beneath his feet.
"The box hasn't been opened yet, so I can intervene."
This was the last thing Jia Ying heard before she woke up.
When Maximus opened his eyes again, he discovered a whole new world.
The priestess, Peryl, knelt silently on the ground, gazing at him with reverence, while the other believers also knelt and worshipped him. Maximus couldn't remember how he had come to stand on this high platform, wearing this ugly crown, with supernatural flames burning above his head. But none of that mattered now; he had never felt so good. He felt his mind could scan everyone before him, including the commoners and enemies on the upper decks. He felt his body brimming with power, as if he could crush steel with a mere finger. Now, he could reach out and touch the deck that had once been high above him—he saw his reflection in the priestess Peryl's eyes—several bone spurs rising from his skull to form a burning crown, powerful muscles covering his entire body, and deep purple eyes radiating a profound light. He grinned, squeezing scalding steam from his sharpened teeth, then bent down and used the bone spurs that pierced his skin and his fingernails to form claws, slashing a wound in the priestess Peryl's chest.
She was still naked, and the filth from their intercourse was still dripping down her clothes.
Pleasure was quickly replaced by glory, and the pure bloodline, painstakingly passed down through generations of the Forsaken, now played its proper role. Priestess Peril endured the branding pain in her chest with the expression of a martyr. Since she gained self-awareness, the only education she had received besides ancient texts and writings had been the sect's goal: to become the Holy Marriage partner of the Forsaken's savior, guiding him to the power of the outer dimensions. She clearly saw that she was not having intercourse with Maximus, but with a powerful angel from another dimension. The angel had already bestowed a divine oracle, blessing Maximus, the savior of the Forsaken. Maximus, born into the royal family of Attilan, was now one with the angels, one with the gods; Maximus's will was the will of the gods.
The emblem on her chest is now a mark given by a powerful being from another dimension, an unparalleled glory that the sect has craved for countless years and plotted in countless schemes, yet failed to obtain. Priestess Peryl feels sorry for those fools who have abandoned their faith, and at the same time hates those heretics who reject the glory of the gods and instead worship the absurd legends of the Kree.
After doing all this, a surge of anger suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Maximus suddenly grabbed the priestess and threw her aside. His angry eyes were fixed on the crowd of believers below, none of whom understood what was happening. Except for a few mentally deranged fools, the vast majority fell silent, even the priestess Peryl and the foolish Alpha primitives. "Drink this blood," Maximus said, oblivious to his own inexplicable change in voice, "You will gain power you never had before. Yes, do not waste a single drop… You will become healthy and strong…"
Black Bolt, who had been urgently recalled once again, looked sadly at the Centaurus Clan psionicist.
Almost all the psykers in the settlements, regardless of their abilities, exhibited the same symptoms: they screamed, they sang, they babbled incoherently about the impending birth of something, and they cried out for death. The sedatives lost their effect, and medical personnel could only restrain the ailing psykers and transfer them from the temporary medical unit in the Gene Council Hall—the Royal Guard had taken it upon themselves to place these psykers in prison—Black Bolt wanted to stop him, but the Royal Guard captain claimed that the psykers were in poor condition, likely insane, and would cause the medical personnel considerable trouble. Now, all that was needed was to send some soldiers to care for the psykers so that the medical personnel could treat the wounded.
"What exactly is going on?"
Black Bolt looked around and found that no one could answer his question.
The Centaur Clan matriarch shook her head, and neither did the Villain Clan or the Ghost Clan matriarchs have an answer.
"This is no coincidence, Your Majesty." The captain of the Royal Guard hesitated for a moment before finally deciding to tell Black Bolt what he had been keeping hidden. This included, but was not limited to, the cults roaming the lower production decks, and the strange psychic leader he had encountered during his campaign against them in Argon's time. "We all know how terrible witchcraft is." The captain glanced at the Centaurus Clan matriarch. Aside from the Chimerian and commoner clans, the Centaurus Clan had the largest number of psychics. "If those wizards all say the same thing, then that thing can be called a prophecy."
Black Bolt was shocked by his own naiveté; he had never considered the situation on the Lower Deck before. He had never been there, never seen the Alpha Primitives at work, and had no idea that a rebellion needed to be suppressed there. Since he came to power, no one had told him the truth about the Lower Deck; it was as if everyone had tacitly kept it from him, wanting him to obediently sit on the throne and issue orders—he glanced at the royal family members, almost all of whom refused to meet his gaze—at this moment, Black Bolt wanted to sigh. He felt angry, sad, and pained, because those he once thought he could trust seemed to have become untrustworthy, and everyone had conspired to steal power from him.
"It's not that I didn't want to report to you, Your Majesty."
Blackbat nodded to the captain of the royal guard.
Whether he was telling the truth or not, the captain of the royal guard was on his side at that moment.
