Chapter 179 The Unwelcome Guest
Chapter 179 The Unwelcome Guest (First Update!)
So far, Salomon has encountered the village chief Coulson and guide Tony Stark. If you include Matt Murdock, he feels like a Pokémon trainer aspiring to become the champion, constantly bumping into these future heroes while venturing into tall grass. However, Salomon has opted for the escape option; he doesn't want to cause trouble. These people are indeed kind and good enough, but precisely because of this, Salomon feels out of place among these street heroes.
Besides, Bayonetta and Joan of Arc were waiting to eat the cake he made. That was far more important than many other things.
Salomon returned to his apartment, quickly took a shower, then put on his clothes and kitchen apron and opened the ingredients he had just bought. Aside from meat and vegetables, he planned to use the sugar, eggs, fruit, and cream to make desserts, waiting until Joan of Arc finished work to pick up Bayonetta, who was at Athena's apartment (that was another matter), by which time dinner would be ready and the desserts in the refrigerator would be perfectly chilled.
The sorcerer first scooped the plums from the plum wine and chopped them into small pieces, coating them with a thin layer of low-gluten starch. Then, she separated the egg yolks and egg whites, gradually adding softened butter and plum wine at room temperature, stirring until emulsified and thick. Next, she added sifted low-gluten flour and mixed it evenly with a whisk.
Throughout these steps, Salomon's hands never touched any of the ingredients; only his wand came into contact with his palms. This was the effect of magic—this "miniature wish spell" allowed him to quickly mix the egg yolk batter and the subsequent mixture of egg whites and sugar. He didn't need an electric mixer to whip up a satisfyingly stiff meringue. Salomon added the meringue to the egg yolk batter in three batches, adding diced dried plums during the mixing process. Finally, he poured the mixture into a mold, tapped it to release any air bubbles, and baked it in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for twenty-five minutes.
He also made a non-alcoholic version of the strawberry chiffon cake. The plum wine chiffon cake was decorated with raisins on the outer layer of cream, while the strawberry chiffon cake was decorated with sliced strawberries. He planned to take the cake to the orphanage after dinner to share with the children.
The next dessert was red wine jelly, which was also very simple to make. Just boil a pot of water, add granulated sugar and bring it to a boil, then add soaked gelatin sheets, some lemon juice, and red wine. Simmer for one minute, then pour it into a mold. Salomon chose a large glass bowl and used magic to quickly cool the cooked red wine. However, he also placed a few cherries at the bottom of the bowl and used magic to keep them in place, making them look as if they had just jumped into the water.
Salomon was quite pleased with his work, and only when the doorbell rang did he pick up his watch from the dining table and glance at the time—this was definitely not Jeanne's off-duty time. He wiped the table, quickly cleaned up the spilled flour and egg, put his wand in his pocket, and went to the entryway to open the door. He glanced outside, then expressionlessly closed the door, completely ignoring the person standing outside.
"Hey!" A black leather shoe blocked the doorway, preventing Salomon from closing it. The sorcerer pushed the door slightly outwards, then pulled hard. With a dull thud, a white scratch appeared on the shiny black shoe, and the man standing outside let out a yelp. "Do you really hate guests that much?" he shouted. "I went through so much trouble to find your location, but I didn't expect you to be so unwelcoming!"
"I don't welcome any uninvited guests." Salomon's expression remained cold. He opened the door, looked at the guest outside, as if all warmth had been taken away, leaving only icy words, "Including you, Tony Stark."
"Wow, this is quite unusual. This is the first time I've ever been unwelcome." Stark tried to squeeze into the house, but Salomon showed no sign of moving aside. "Is it alright?" He gestured dramatically towards the entryway, "You really don't want to talk?"
Because of Tony Stark's height, the arcane mage could look him in the eye. Salomon stared intently into Stark's eyes until his expression turned awkward, and after a long pause, he finally spoke, "What are you talking about?"
"Are you sure we want to say this here?" Tony Stark raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching in a slightly disgusted expression. "Listen, kid," he said, "I don't know what kind of life you lead, but encountering aliens is really not something you should talk about in public. Ordinary people live normal lives. And everything else is the same."
"This is in front of my house, nobody comes here."
"But if we keep arguing here, that old lady downstairs is coming up with a broom. She looked at me like I hated her the moment I stepped upstairs, Happy can vouch for that. Am I right, Happy?"
"That's right." Stark's fat bodyguard nodded frantically behind him.
"And I can smell dessert... I'd love to have some." Stark withdrew his foot, revealing what he considered a perfect smile.
"Only you can be here." Salomon was also curious about why Tony Stark had come here. He definitely wasn't here because of Asgard. It had been almost a year since Thor's arrival, so he must have other purposes—of course, it was also possible that he had been refusing to answer Tony Stark's calls, which had made the guy so irritable that he had come knocking on his door.
"Also, remember to take off your shoes. I provide slippers for guests, so please don't step on my floor."
"Okay, Happy, you stay here. Alright, stop pretending. You can go downstairs and buy some food. I'll call you when I leave." Stark waved his hand and followed Salomon into the entryway. Only after the arcane mage reminded him did he change into the prepared slippers, though his expression remained one of disdain, as if he was very dissatisfied with the pink slippers.
As he stepped into the living room, his attention was immediately drawn to the ingredients and utensils flitting about in the kitchen. He watched as the cleaver floated up, precisely slicing meat, and the vegetables shook themselves after washing. The spatula and frying pan cooked dinner on their own. In addition, he saw the dishcloth turn on the tap by itself, and the brush and dish soap danced together, white foam overflowing the entire sink.
"Wow! This is like a fairy tale." He sat down on the sofa facing the TV. "Is this the kind of life you usually lead?"
Salomon didn't answer. Instead, he took a small glass bowl from the refrigerator, filled it with some red wine jelly, and placed it in front of Tony Stark along with a small silver spoon. "I think what you should be doing now is answering my questions," the arcane mage said, gesturing for him to sit on a sofa to the side—the proper place for a guest. He asked, "What brings you here?"
"There are many. Hmm, did you make this? Or did you conjure it with magic? Actually, I was eating maggots? I didn't expect it to taste so good." Stark readily accepted Salomon's impatience. He took a few bites of the red wine jelly dessert and then casually commented on the living room's furnishings, as if he hadn't heard Salomon's question.
"That rug by the door is nice, where did you buy it?"
"I wove it..." That welcome carpet was indeed woven by Salomon. If an unauthorized person enters through the entrance, the carpet will come alive, enveloping the uninvited guest until they suffocate or suffer internal bleeding due to broken ribs.
"You're quite talented. Do you usually do the cooking?"
"Yes."
"Where's your girlfriend? Although it's not listed in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files, I know you have a very charming girlfriend."
"It's none of your business."
"That fat cat..."
"Meow!" The Cheshire Cat leaped onto the sofa and slapped Stark. Stark rubbed his cheek, which the cat had just slapped, with a strange expression. "Fine, I won't say anything more. Listen, little wizard of Hogwarts, I know you hate it when people bother you..."
"That's right!" Salomon nodded. "So you can leave after you've finished your dessert. Also, I don't like being given nicknames."
Stark's teeth chattered, and he glanced to the side, the atmosphere becoming somewhat awkward. He couldn't believe Salomon was so quick to dismiss him, but he still brazenly explained his purpose. "I'm a little curious what you're doing at Eton College." He put down his small glass bowl, turned to Salomon, and looked at him again. "You haven't made any scientific inventions since you enrolled; you shouldn't be wasting your time in that prestigious school."
“Magic is my profession, and magic is also a science, requiring precise calculations and…” Salomon retorted as usual, then he saw a glint in Stark’s eyes. “No,” he said, “don’t even think about it. Otherwise, your bodyguards will only find a pig in clothes when they get here.”
"Can you still curse?"
"That's not a curse, it's a transformation spell!"
"Okay, okay, calm down. I've come to see you for many reasons, but one of them is to ask you something." Tony Stark quickly raised his hands, signaling Salomon to be patient. "I want to ask you something, just one thing."
"What?"
