Chapter 184 High Emotional Intelligence
Chapter 184 High Emotional Intelligence (Second Update!)
Salomon's path was clearly not going to be easy. As mentioned before, nearly half of the American population is religious, including highly educated white-collar workers, politicians, entrepreneurs, and soldiers. The religious atmosphere is even stronger in ordinary working-class families, with devout believers in all walks of life, some even reaching fanaticism, such as the Mormon Church. Conversely, demon worship is also rampant. The Manson murders of 1969 and the Manson Family trial of 1970 shocked the entire United States, proving that His Holiness's choice not to reveal the existence of magic, heaven, hell, and the abyss to the public was correct; humanity is far too easily subservient to those extradimensional beings.
Pepper Potts, born in New Haven, Connecticut, was relatively fortunate. Although the city was close to New England, her family was not so fanatical, and she grew up in a relatively ordinary environment, making her more accepting of the existence of magic. If fanatics had seen magic, they would have seen the spellcaster as a despicable person who had made a deal with the devil, a spokesperson for the devil on earth, just like the Puritans who had just landed in America three hundred years ago.
But ever since Harry Potter was released, magic is no longer feared like it was three hundred years ago. Most people explore magic out of curiosity, and Pepper Potts was no exception. She suddenly became enthusiastic, and Pepper Potts slammed the file on Stark's chest, shoving him away.
"Child," she said with a smile, "Stark hasn't told me all the details yet, and I hope to learn more from you."
"Okay~" Salomon glanced at the dumbfounded Stark beside him, then realized what was happening and stood next to Pepper Potts, pointing at himself repeatedly to get attention, making the scene suddenly somewhat comical. "Yes, ma'am." Salomon turned to Pepper Potts, "It's my pleasure. But I won't reveal too much; what Mr. Stark knows, you know as well."
Talking to Pepper Potts was much easier than talking to Stark, because she didn't constantly try to steer the conversation towards magical research. She just wanted to know what Salomon meant by her future child with Stark, why Stark had been so frantic since returning home, constantly talking about "daughter" and "skiing," and even wanting to hold a press conference. However, these actions were stopped by the more level-headed president of Stark Industries. Even so, her relationship with Tony Stark was still exposed.
It can only be said that Pepper Potts, with her experience navigating the workplace, is far superior to Stark in negotiation skills. Even if she doesn't understand something or wants to question it, she will patiently wait and then ask from a different angle. This approach doesn't make Salomon feel that she still doubts the reality of magic; instead, it feels like talking to a familiar person.
Simply put, Pepper Potts has a much higher emotional intelligence than Tony Stark.
"Why are you telling us this?" Pepper Potts looked at Stark sitting beside her. "And aren't you worried that telling us this will change the future? Or is it part of fate? Or do you believe that having a daughter is destiny, a choice made by fate?"
"Yes." Salomon held up the juice in his hand. It was a new juice; Salomon had requested that each juice have a different flavor, and Stark had actually managed to do so. "I mentioned to Mr. Stark before that I am not in the Akashic Records, and I possess the ability to change fate. But you are in the Akashic Records, and your future is predetermined. I'm telling you this simply to give it a try."
"What attempt?" Pepper Potts asked.
"And what about our daughter?" Stark asked.
The sorcerer ignored Stark, who had become a doting father to his daughter; his mind was filled with that small figure. Only Pepper Potts remained somewhat lucid. "This is an attempt to lead everyone to a happy future," Salomon sighed. "Omniscience doesn't mean omnipotence. We all have to make choices, and sacrifices are inevitable. My teacher made that choice. In the future, we will face a terrible challenge—a catastrophe that will affect the entire universe. I want to slightly alter the future while resolving that catastrophe, so that everyone can have the best possible life. That's all."
"You mean..." Pepper Potts had a bad feeling.
“That’s right.” Salomon nodded in reply. “In the future, Mr. Stark will become the savior of all mankind and even the entire universe, but this responsibility is not something that he alone can bear—although that’s what the Akashic Records show, it’s not unchangeable, and I am the one who drives that change.”
"Me? The savior? Ha!" Stark laughed. "I've actually become the savior! Pepper, I..."
"I won't allow it!" Pepper Potts said sternly. "Absolutely not. Tony, there's no room for negotiation."
"Don't worry. Mr. Stark will be fine until your daughter is born." Salomon waved his hand, signaling Miss Potts to calm down. "What I said to Mr. Stark before is what I'm saying to him in the future. He doesn't need to do much, he doesn't need to save everyone; that's my responsibility."
"you?"
"That's right."
This is the responsibility of a born saint, a messiah, the heir to the King of Britain, the heir to the Holy Sword, the future ruler of humanity, and the guardian of Earth. Humanity in this world still needs Stark's brain to make significant technological progress and catch up with extraterrestrial technology. This is a necessary condition for fulfilling the Sorcerer Supreme's tragic wish—that humanity could survive independently in the universe. That's why Salomon told Stark about this.
Humanity needs him.
“This is truly… unbelievable…” Stark blinked, his face filled with surprise and bewilderment after Salomon revealed his identity. “You’re telling me now that you have no biological father. I can’t believe it. Are you Jesus? Is your magic the miracles of the Bible? So that’s why you don’t need those bat wings and lizard claws to cast spells?”
"The lizard claws are very useful; they're an ingredient for transformation potions."
"..."
"..."
"Alright, enough joking. I have nothing to say to Heaven," Salomon said. "I've always stood with humanity. Not Hell or the Abyss, certainly not Heaven, any extradimensional creature that sneaks onto Earth will be hunted down. That's our job at Kamar-Taj. Ordinary people are unaware of our existence, but you're an exception, Mr. Stark, because you'll be coming into contact with the arcane sorcerers of Kamar-Taj in the future, which is why I'm telling you these things in advance."
"Alright then, I'll ask you, that flaming skull..."
"That was a fusion of the Spirit of Vengeance and an elemental demon. Captain America was lucky he didn't die there." Salomon stood up from the sofa. "Like I said, I won't reveal too much. If possible, I'd better leave for now. My prophetic magic instincts have already shown me the future, and I feel that if I don't leave quickly, something worse will happen to me."
"What is it?" Stark tensed up now. Anything involving mages was a big deal, he thought—could it be a demonic invasion? Or perhaps aliens returning?
"The pork chops I need for tonight's cooking are all gone! I'd better hurry or I'll be too late!"
