Chapter 186 Sheath
Chapter 186 Sheath (Second Update!)
Salomon's revelations about the state of the universe had already begun to cause anxiety for Tony Stark, the technological genius. The sorcerer first presented a harsh reality, then offered false hope, first affirming Stark's future achievements, then taking the blame upon himself. However, this didn't solve anything. Stark wasn't one to give up based on promises. After Salomon left, Stark had already begun planning the next phase of his research and development.
However, none of this had much to do with Salomon, who was currently busy cooking steaks for the children. Despite the children's objections, Athena insisted they eat the broccoli on their plates as well. Under Athena's pressure, Salomon led the way by eating the vegetables, drawing complaints from the other children. After finishing these tasks, the sorcerer returned to his apartment with several bags of sirloin steaks to prepare dinner and dessert.
He glanced at his memo, then at the time on his watch. Salomon was to pick up Bayonetta and Joan of Arc after their shopping spree, but before that, he needed to go to the Hellgate Bar. He had already booked a lesson with Rodan on crafting magical items—a skill that naturally required learning, not just reading books. There weren't many people in Kamar-Taj capable of crafting magical items; the Sorcerer Supreme was one of them. However, Salomon wasn't about to bother the Sorcerer Supreme for such a trivial matter, so he had to find Rodan and book the lesson.
Although Rodan refused to work overtime after completing the Kamar-Taj order, he wouldn't mind teaching Salomon some techniques if he wanted to learn personally. Rodan excelled at crafting magical weapons and armor, but the magical knowledge (spell recognition), proper craftsmanship, and professional skills required to create magical items were common to all. Sewing runes was no challenge for Rodan, a renowned craftsman from the upper planes, and he believed Salomon could quickly learn these skills.
No matter where a spellcaster goes, learning is an inescapable part of life. Salomon is incredibly grateful for his current intelligence; he's now capable of aiming for the Turing Award in his lifetime. Stark, however, is even more intelligent, capable of fundamentally changing human life through his intellect. But the arcane mage isn't discouraged. As his magical studies deepen, his body and organs will gradually absorb excess magic power, making him stronger, his mind clearer, and his lifespan longer. Moreover, he started with a high level of skill; the power granted by his saintly physique hasn't been fully realized yet. With time, surpassing Stark will come sooner than he imagines.
He passed the spell identification check; all he needed were some crafting and professional skills. With those, he could begin creating his own magical items. [Faction: Creating Curiosities]
Bayonetta didn't mind Salomon arriving a little late today. She and Joan planned to have a drink at the Gates of Hell bar, then sit at the bar watching the sorcerer painstakingly cut leather and sew gloves. Only Enzo was somewhat dissatisfied; every time Salomon came to the Gates of Hell bar, the chubby intelligence merchant had to extinguish his cigar, a matter Rodin refused to discuss.
"When am I ever going to get to smoke a cigar?!" Enzo grumbled, shaking his whiskey. "Honestly. This kid isn't as young as he looks; he's been living with the witch for ages! He's a man now! Hey, Rodin, another Chivas Regal!"
Joan of Arc looked at Enzo with the disdain one would give trash, but the intelligence merchant remained unmoved. "I'm not wrong," he said, his voice trailing off as he noticed the gun twirling in Joan's hand.
"It will take about five more years." Although Enzo refused to pay for the drinks, Rodin still handed him a glass of wine, while whispering instructions to Salomon on leather cutting techniques, "You're considered an adult at twenty-one."
The intelligence merchant shouted in dissatisfaction, "Am I really going to have to wait this long? Bayonetta, when are you going to make this brat a man?!"
"He always has been~" The witch licked her lips. "Boya's kissing skills have improved a lot."
"Ceresa!" Joan of Arc cried out in displeasure.
Salomon rolled his eyes and continued sewing his gloves. He had prepared two scrolls before coming to the Gates of Hell: one for Bloodletting and the other for Vampire's Touch. Both were dark magic spells capable of draining life force, and these gloves were undoubtedly dark magic items as well. There was a reason he chose to make these gloves instead of arcane striking gloves: these vampire gloves, combined with weapons forged from vampire souls, would perfectly complement each other, significantly enhancing his melee abilities—the vampire gloves would absorb the enemy's life force and attach it to him, while the Falling Leaves Twin Blades could convert this excess life force into blood to attack the enemy, forming a perfect cycle.
Salomon wouldn't have used this weapon, which might stun his growth, if he hadn't already figured out how to use the Falling Leaf Twin Blades.
"Your Coke." Rodin placed the Coke with ice in front of the arcane mage. "You're progressing quickly; you'll be able to add spells soon. But before that, try it out and see if it fits your hand. Comfort is the most important thing to consider, not the magic itself."
"Don't worry, Rodan." Salomon picked up his cup and took a sip. "This magical weapon will automatically adjust its size."
"No, I mean, you have to try sewing it yourself first to see if you're doing it right. I don't want to feel any loose threads in a pair of gloves." Rodin poured himself a glass of wine. Ever since Salomon came to the Hell's Gate bar, he had practically given up cigars; exposing minors to secondhand smoke was an extremely irresponsible act.
"And one more thing," the fallen angel craftsman said, "the last two items of your order are also finished. To be honest, although these two sheaths don't contain any particularly powerful magic, they still took me a lot of time to make. The patterns and decorations you requested were far too intricate."
"That's to match the style of the weapon, Rodan." Salomon shook his head and summoned Phoenix. The large, golden-red bird held two things tightly wrapped in canvas under its claws. The arcane mage opened the first canvas, revealing the Falling Leaf Twin Blades. Rodan had fitted these weapons with a slightly curved metal scabbard, covered with dark metallic patterns, the material of which was unknown.
The other canvas covered the sword Excalibur. Salomon had always wanted to give this sword a scabbard, but to match the sword's magnificence, the scabbard had to have the same style. Due to the extremely complex craftsmanship of the design, Salomon had no choice but to entrust the task to Rodin.
Rodin did not disappoint Salomon. The craftsmanship of this scabbard was incredibly complex, but the deep blue and gold enamel decorations alone took him a long time to complete. According to Rodin, he used the champlevé enamel technique, and the entire scabbard was fired over a long period of time before it was finally formed.
Salomon tried inserting the sword into the scabbard, and as expected, it fit perfectly. He didn't expect the scabbard to have the capabilities of the original; what he needed was a container to temporarily hold the sword so he could carry it easily. He couldn't possibly wrap the longsword in canvas every time—that would be too inconvenient.
