Chapter 188 This is a misunderstanding! (Second update!)

"What's wrong with you?"

The next day, Nick Fury called, indignantly saying, "You actually arranged to meet with my agent in the middle of the night? Don't you know that's against regulations...?"

"Wait, wasn't Agent Romanov coming to find me under your orders?"

"How could I possibly allow such an extremely dangerous target like you to contact my agents without authorization!" Nick Fury yelled. "What intelligence did you give me?!"

"Tell me first, did Agent Romanov betray us?" Salomon narrowed his eyes, his fingers rubbing the sling ring.

"No! She was leaving yesterday to complete another mission! She's one of my most trusted agents!" The director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was clearly exasperated. He couldn't believe Agent Romanoff had contacted Salomon without reporting it. "What's her purpose? And what exactly did you say?"

Now Salomon understood completely. He'd been tricked by Agent Romanoff; Nick Fury hadn't instructed her to inquire about the Tesseract at all—it was all her own doing. "She didn't say anything," the arcane mage said. "And what I said is already in the text message I sent you; don't tell me you don't care."

Nick Fury was silent for a moment. "You know, don't you?" he asked, "about Pegasus Base."

"I know a little. I know your intentions are good, but bombarding the Cosmic Cube with a particle accelerator is extremely unwise." Salomon spoke slowly, recalling his conversation with Agent Romanoff the previous night. This woman had divided her mind into many parts, allowing her to seamlessly switch between various emotions, making it impossible for the arcane mage to detect her purpose. At the time, Salomon had assumed she was acting on Nick Fury's orders, and therefore hadn't been idle using "Mind Detection," perhaps inadvertently revealing what she wanted.

"You've already caused a lot of trouble for Kamar-Taj, Nick Fury," Salomon warned in vain. "I don't object to your experiments, but if you cause even more chaos, we won't stand idly by—that's something you don't want to see."

"You should understand my predicament best, Salomon," Nick Fury said. "I've always seen you as a warrior fighting for humanity. Do you think we have the strength to resist the Asgardians? Not to mention the Hulk, he's practically a walking nuclear bomb!"

"Yes! Earth is relatively independent, and Asgard can't do whatever it wants. Both sides have a certain degree of deterrence," the arcane mage replied. "As for the Hulk, I'm not without options either."

"Regardless, advancing humanity's technological level is the top priority." Nick Fury spoke rapidly, seemingly trying to skip over the awkward moment. He now wondered why he had been so stupid; he had known all along that Salomon was a guy who wouldn't follow the script.

"That's right."

"That's why I'm studying the Tesseract," Nick Fury said. "The Deterrence you're talking about is definitely in Kamar-Taj's hands, right? What I need is one in the hands of ordinary humans, capable of countering the power of Asgard."

"Sure." Salomon didn't believe deep down that a secular state could control such a thing. On one hand, populism was rampant while class solidification was rampant, and on the other hand, politics was prioritized while capitalists were allowed to acquire wealth. There is no perfect political system in the world. If such technology really appeared, it could not be controlled by just one country.

Moreover, once such a black-box technology is developed, it will inevitably undermine existing technological levels, requiring countless researchers to spend a great deal of time catching up on what they have missed. Only technologies developed step by step, like those researched and developed by Tony Stark, are what humanity truly needs.

"Since you believe the current research methods are unsafe, can you offer safer methods?" Nick Fury asked. "And I'd also like to hear what kind of trouble you're having. Don't mind, maybe I can help."

"Haven't you already invited Eric Szavig? Then let him do his research. I've been to your base; hurry up and take down the particle accelerator, or I'll be waiting for you to blast the continent into the sky." The sorcerer sat on the sofa, smiling as he accepted the hot black tea offered by the witch. Adding sugar but no milk was the family's usual way of drinking tea, and the witch didn't mind trying Salomon's flavor. Jeanne d'Arc chose milk for breakfast—she was an elementary school teacher and also had weekends off.

Bayonetta leaned against Salomon with remarkable ease, making Joan of Arc's eyes burn with envy.

"As for the trouble, it's all your fault. Remember the extradimensional bacteria I showed you? That was just a minor problem, except that everyone in that base had more than one parasitizing their head." Salomon took a sip of hot tea. "Please be mindful of your employees' mental health. I can't guarantee there won't be extradimensional bacteria that can cause bipolar disorder."

"Is there anything else?"

Salomon heard the sound of a pen gliding across paper; Nick Fury must be writing the suggestion down.

"The rest is Kamar-Taj's work area. The number of demons and angels hunting souls in the spirit world (etheric plane) is increasing day by day. You have no idea how many we've encountered in the shallow etheric plane. That's on your head, Nick Fury."

"I?"

"Yes, it was your experiment that led to this. Well, no need to argue, who gave the Sorcerer Supreme permission to do it? Did you really think you could escape the Venerable One's scheme?" Salomon took a sip of tea, sighed, "And there's something else—about Natasha Romanov."

Bayonetta suddenly sat up straight, and a short black leather whip inexplicably appeared in her hand. Instead of a thin strip of leather at the end, it was a square piece of hard leather about three fingers wide. Joan of Arc immediately became excited, and a similar whip appeared in her hand as well. Salomon didn't know about the witches' quirks, but he was discussing serious matters.

He waved his hand as he said, "I can roughly guess what Agent Romanov wants. Don't worry, it's nothing that will affect security."

"How come I didn't know?" Nick Fury asked. "Are you hiding something from me?"

"This kind of topic is obviously easier to discuss with non-intelligence personnel, and I don't think Agent Romanov is someone who would expose her inner weaknesses," Salomon said. "It seems Agent Romanov trusts me to a certain extent. But she's your person, so whether or not to hand this over to me is a decision only you can make."

The director of S.H.I.E.L.D. remained silent for a moment. Meanwhile, the two witches stared intently at the sorcerer. Salomon blinked, trying to appear innocent. Bayonetta was patient; she gestured for Jeanne to put down her whip and let Salomon finish speaking.

"She...you must ensure that you do not violate the following in this matter."

First, it must not endanger the security of regimes in other countries;

Second, it must not endanger the lives of any ordinary people;

third,……"

After some debate, Nick Fury and Salomon made an agreement: after he hung up the phone, he would still have to face the witch's questions. "I told you, I have great respect for Ms. Romanoff," Salomon sighed. "She has the courage to sacrifice herself for her comrades, which is the greatest human emotion, and that's why I wanted to help her with this."

"What kind of help?" Bayonetta asked.

"Let her have a child."

"Boya is such a bad boy!" Bayonetta pulled out her pistol without hesitation.
