Chapter 198 déjà vu

Chapter 198 Déjà Vu (Second Update!)

A few days later, just as Salomon was either overwhelmed by sudden dreams or his mind was swirling with overwhelming memories, he was summoned to England. To be precise, he was summoned by the Sorcerer Supreme to a house in Glastonbury, Wales, to await the solution prepared for him by the Supreme Master.

"There's no curse, no power of hell or nightmares." Balthazar checked Salomon's condition before Merlin arrived, but aside from some mental exhaustion, he couldn't see anything wrong. He asked, somewhat puzzled, "Strange, are you sure all the dreams are the same? How much of those dreams do you remember?"

“I have records.” Salomon pointed to the test tubes on the bedside table, each containing wisps of silvery-white energy—his memories of dreams. “It’s boring,” he said. “I can never move freely in my dreams; I can only move my fingers when I’m about to leave the dream. It’s interesting at first, but any dream repeating itself a dozen times becomes quite boring, and a dozen repetitions are enough for me to memorize all the details.”

"Dave, go check those memories." Balthazar instructed his apprentice while taking out some herbs from his pouch. Ignoring Salomon's objections, he forcefully stuffed a marjoram petal into the sorcerer's mouth. "Marjoram can relax your nerves and help you fall into a comfortable sleep."

"Are you kidding me? You might as well give me a piece of dragon's tooth grass or verbena. At least verbena can ward off nightmares." Salomon's face involuntarily shrank. He didn't know what Balthazar had done to the herbs, but the marjoram petals, which should have had a slightly sweet taste, became extremely unpalatable. He felt that this nauseating taste stretched out its little hand and firmly gripped his tongue. No matter how much he swallowed, the taste just wouldn't go away.

"I don't think what you dreamt was a nightmare. Verbena won't help you at all." Balthazar smacked the lazy apprentice on the head, urging Dave to get back to work, while he continued pulling herbs and potions from his pouch. "Have you tried any potions?"

"A panacea containing European fern and lavender, that can give me lucid dreams. As for the result, I think you've already guessed. After the effects wear off, the dream will follow." The sorcerer refused Balthazar's potion. "I dare not say that my potion-making skills are comparable to yours, but I believe that my potions taste much better. That marjoram petal says it all; you know, that's a herb."

"There aren't many schools of potion-making on Earth that can rival the Merlin School!" Balthazar glared fiercely at the apprentice who was snickering, then turned to Salomon and said, "Potions are never good-tasting, only bad-tasting and even worse-tasting. You choose."

"What should I choose?"

"Before the teacher arrives, I want to examine you." Balthazar didn't want his nervousness to show on his face. Although he was happy to punch Merlin, seeing his mentor again after more than a thousand years always made people nervous. He was worried that Merlin would dislike his magic level, and his progress in the past few decades was not as good as his own apprentice Dave. He placed several bottles of potions of different colors in front of the bed and said to Salomon, "That is the greatest magician in the world. Although he has a bad personality, his power is undeniable."

"But now, the Venerable One is stronger after all."

"Merlin was also the Venerable One's teacher, wasn't he?"

"Balthazar, all the memories are the same." Dave held a handful of test tubes, gesturing to his teacher. "Some memories are incomplete, but those contents will appear in other memories. I didn't find anything special about those dreams. I'm just curious why Salomon can remember the colors and patterns of all the cats so clearly. I compared all the dreams, from the earliest memories to yesterday's, and the colors of all the cats are exactly the same. I think... this might be some kind of anomaly."

"I think it's probably because I'm smarter than you, Dave," Salomon said nonchalantly. "Balthazar must have told you about the difference between spellcasters and ordinary people, right? The magic within us, no matter where it comes from, gradually strengthens our bodies—muscles, bones, blood vessels, organs, including the brain. I have far more magic within me than you, and my body absorbs more magic than yours. You're smarter than ordinary people, so I'm smarter than you."

“That doesn’t make sense, Salomon. You don’t understand what I mean.” Dave shook his head. “You remember too clearly… I mean, you remember things you shouldn’t remember. Can you recall what kind of shoes that person with the headscarf was wearing? Can you remember how much cat hair those cats had stuck to you? You remember it all, Salomon. You remember it perfectly, every single detail, from the first to the last. That wasn’t your dream; you were watching someone else’s dream!”

Salomon and Balthazar understood what Dave meant.

It was precisely because Salomon's memories were so vivid that Dave noticed the discrepancy. Normally, people gradually forget the contents of their dreams over time, but Salomon remembered every detail clearly from the very first time he recorded those dreams, as if he were playing a first-person game and he was the one sitting behind the screen.

Dave's suggestion made Salomon and Balthazar gasp, because if Dave was right, the situation was even more bizarre—this was no longer a matter of a demon giving Salomon a dream, but a more complicated and incomprehensible situation.

The sorcerer touched the silver key on his chest, and he remembered Yog-Sothoth's words, "Your destiny is now divided."

Could it be that his dreams are simply experiences from another universe? Or are his current dreams merely events he will experience in the future? So far, all the clues are tangled into a mess, and Salomon can only record these questions to solve in the future.

Immediately afterwards, a warm breeze filled every corner of the room, accompanied by an extremely refreshing floral fragrance. Upon smelling this fragrance, the three people in the room suddenly felt incredibly sleepy. Salomon casually lay down on the bed, Balthazar dozed off in the chair, and Dave, with nowhere to go, could only curl up on the carpet.

"Look, not everyone can handle the scent of Avalon's flowers. To be honest, I don't know how you woke up, or how you still had the strength to chop me after waking up." An old man with white hair and beard suddenly appeared in the room. He had entered the room from the Aetherial Dimension. The Sorcerer Supreme followed behind him and also appeared in the room.

"Stop talking nonsense." The Sorcerer Supreme had no intention of giving Merlin a pleasant look, and even had an impulse to take revenge.

"I know you dote on your apprentice." Merlin didn't care at all about the trivial matter of his beard being pulled. "This kid is your heir to the Holy Sword, isn't he? So, you're planning to shirk your responsibility?"

"That's right."

"He's really unlucky. Alright, stop pulling my beard, I'll take care of his problem. You heard the question my heir raised earlier, and it matches my guess. Your heir's fate has been split, and the dreams he has are just a kind of 'déjà vu' originating from himself, which is why the magic that defends against external dreams is useless."

"But this is just speculation."

"We can do a small experiment."
