Chapter 200 Meeting of the Sages
Chapter 200 Meeting of the Sages (Second Update!)
"You should know that I don't want you to see him."
"Hmm~"
"You must promise that you won't say anything inappropriate after you meet him, and that you won't spread your toxic thoughts to others."
"I can't guarantee that."
"You little brat! I knew it!" Nick Fury slammed his fist on the table, looking extremely angry. But then he sighed deeply and sat back down in his office chair. He kicked his legs, covered his face, and let the chair carry him to a corner of the room. Salomon was unmoved by Nick Fury's anger; he even felt a little amused.
"I didn't expect you to come to me so late. Has Steve Rogers really been holding back for so long? Or do you think he can hold back for so long? Or do you think S.H.I.E.L.D. has a way to deal with Hellfire? Well, it's my fault for giving you false hope and making you think those giant cockroaches can solve the problem." Salomon leaned back in the soft chair opposite his desk, looking like he had everything figured out.
This was indeed his scheme from beginning to end.
Does anyone remember when Salomon asked Captain America to fight Ghost Rider? That wasn't some kind of rehabilitation training. Mephisto, that old devil, had a sharp eye. When he met Salomon, he had already revealed part of the sorcerer's plan—while Captain America was still reeling from the shock of life 70 years in the future, he would expose him to something even more supernatural. This way, Steve Rogers' attention would be drawn to him, making it easier for him to receive certain information.
This is also one of the main methods of hypnosis. Only after experiencing something like this can Salomon more easily instill certain ideas in this American soldier.
Ghost Rider's Judgment Eye was indeed ineffective against Steve Rogers, and his ability to "command" any object seemed equally ineffective against the vibranium shield. However, every battle results in injury, and Captain America was bound by Ghost Rider's chains wreathed in hellfire. Since the night of the battle with Ghost Rider, S.H.I.E.L.D. had been trying every possible treatment for Steve Rogers's burns. Neither clinically tested drugs nor theoretical surgeries could completely heal the wound. This wound would never heal and would continuously burn his soul. Even as the skin regrown, new burn marks would appear, and few could endure the repeated pain of surgery.
Furthermore, Salomon was extremely confident that S.H.I.E.L.D. would never find a cure, even if Nick Fury brought out his privately held alchemical serum originally intended for Tony Stark. Perhaps S.H.I.E.L.D. did possess something powerful, but it certainly didn't include anything that could heal Hellfire burns.
Nick Fury was extremely reluctant to ask Salomon for help; he knew how Salomon would mock him. Perhaps because he was too smug, the sorcerer inadvertently uttered a few words that allowed Nick Fury to immediately pinpoint the culprit.
"You want to see Captain America? You know he'll be injured? You know his wounds won't heal?" He glared at Salomon. "Why? You could have just brought it up with me, and you knew I'd agree. Why did you have to do it this way?"
"Who knows?" Salomon stood up, realizing he'd let something slip, and naturally refused to reveal any more information. He'd been waiting for this day for a long time—a week since Merlin's treatment, even longer since Captain America's battle with Ghost Rider. Now it was finally time to reap the rewards—he wanted to show Steve Rogers the worst of America, to see if this man's soul was noble enough, if "Captain America" could acknowledge America's unjust stance and accept his destiny to fight for humanity—and also, he wanted to see if this man could now wield Thor's hammer; the power to devour Asgard couldn't be limited to just one plan.
"Alright." He smiled slyly. "You want to resolve this matter as soon as possible, right? Then stop talking nonsense."
"You must be under surveillance..."
"Then I'm leaving."
"Monther f*ck! I promise you, no one will be spying on this meeting!"
"Sign a contract, or I won't trust you."
"Monther f*uck!"

"Are you serious, sir? A kid? You're letting a minor solve problems that so many adults can't? Or is he a scientist too?" Steve Rogers wasn't at the hospital; he was staying at his Brooklyn house. This residence had been assigned to him by S.H.I.E.L.D., and to show his trust, Nick Fury hadn't installed any listening or surveillance devices in the house. When Salomon arrived in Nick Fury's car, Steve Rogers had just returned from the gym, his arm still wrapped in bandages, a folded white towel around his neck.
Men who work out are quite attractive, especially those with muscles that can't be hidden even by a loose T-shirt, which have already made many women on the street turn their heads.
"How are you feeling?" Nick Fury got out of the car, tilting his head back to indicate, "Does it still hurt?"
"It still hurts, but I'm used to it. It's nothing." Captain America said with a smile, but his expression wasn't good. The burns from the Hellfire had already affected his life, which was Salomon's goal: to have Captain America come to him, not the other way around.
"This is Salomon Damonette, he can completely solve your problem." Nick Fury glared at the sorcerer standing to the side eating a Baptist beef burrito. He knew Salomon's purpose, but even knowing it, he was helpless and could only agree to all of Salomon's demands, including paying for the Baptist beef burrito he bought in Chicago.
"What are you looking at me for? I haven't had lunch yet," Salomon said, shaking his head dismissively.
"Hello, I'm Steve Rogers."
"I know. I am Salomon Messiah Pendragon Damonet..." The sorcerer swallowed a piece of beef. "This is not the place to talk."
"Your name is a bit long. Come with me. I didn't clean yesterday, and I didn't know I was going to have guests. I hope you don't mind." Steve Rogers led Salomon and Nick Fury upstairs. He walked down the hallway, greeted the nurse who lived next door, and then opened the door to invite the other two into the room.
The room was excessively clean and tidy, unlike what one would expect from a single man; everything was arranged meticulously. Whether it was already there or Captain America had installed it himself, Salomon noticed a large bookshelf filled with books and records—a vast collection of movies and music from World War II to the present day. Clearly, Steve Rogers was catching up; he wanted to stay current with the world.
After Nick Fury and Salomon each found a soft chair and sat down, Captain America brought out three iced Cokes, one for each of them. They picked up their glasses at the same time, put them down at the same time, and then burped in perfect unison.
Thus, the somewhat distant atmosphere relaxed, and this is the inexplicable friendship between men.
"Things have changed so much now, even Coke doesn't taste the same anymore," Steve Rogers said with a laugh. "And there are so many more flavors of soda now, I have to spend a long time choosing each one. The news always says that Coke doesn't taste the same, but as an old man with a sensitive palate, I think I still have some right to say. But I'm still catching up with the world, at least I've learned how to use a mobile phone—the kind with buttons. I always feel that things with buttons are electronic products, and I'm never used to things without buttons."
"Looks like you need to catch up on your studies. Future electronic devices won't have many buttons." Nick Fury picked up his glass and took a sip. "Take off the bandages; your wound needs treatment as soon as possible. It won't get infected, but it'll still be a pain."
"But I don't see any medical equipment, sir."
"I don't need those things. Salomon, show Captain America what you're capable of."
The sorcerer gave Nick Fury a disdainful look. "What do you take me for?" he said, "some roadside trickster?"
"Sorry, sorry. Let's get started quickly, we're all in a hurry."
