Chapter 210 Visitor from the Future
Chapter 210 The Visitor from the Future (Second Update!)
The sorcerer whistled, but nothing happened. So Salomon whistled harder, the sound sharp and loud, and this time, there was a response. A bright white arc descended from the New York City sky and landed before Salomon. It was Pegasus, who had let the horse roam freely before the operation, intending to return it when needed. Clearly, this wasn't a wise choice, as he had never seen a horse with a bag of Skittles in its mouth.
That stupid horse, I wonder which store it stole from. Salomon just hoped the store clerk wasn't too frightened; not many Marcos would open the door and pick out snacks by themselves, and Pegasus didn't seem like the type to pay.
But now was not the time to punish this gluttonous horse. Salomon mounted Pegasus, holding the golden reins. With a gentle spur, Pegasus galloped forward, its enormous white wings flapping rapidly. Finally, it transformed into a streak of light, leaping through the streets, over stopped cars and Quinjet fighters making emergency landings, and soaring into the sky above Stark Tower—the alien invasion was now a global spectacle, the Venerable One's objective had been achieved, and now it was time for Salomon to keep his promise.
"Is it...?" Captain Rogers hesitated, "Is it Salomon Damonette? Did we give him communications equipment?"
“No.” Agent Romanov shrugged, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the driver’s seat with Clint. “He knows a lot of things,” she said, “but he just won’t share them with us.”
"This kid has even more personality than Stark." Captain Rogers picked up the shield that had fallen to the ground. The word "personality" wasn't a compliment to him; it was just a euphemism for his dissatisfaction with a willful person who "doesn't follow orders."
"He's never been one of us, Captain." Agent Romanov wasn't bothered by Salomon's attitude. Ever since she met Salomon, the sorcerer's independent and unpredictable nature had left a deep impression on her; she felt she could never guess what the sorcerer would do next.
"Then we can only do what we have to do." Captain Rogers squinted and looked up. Even with the enhancements from the Super Soldier Serum, the dust kicked up by the Chitauri crashing into buildings and the smoke from burning cars made it hard for him to open his eyes. Even so, the roaring sound coming from behind the deep hole in the sky above New York still made him notice the behemoth about to emerge into this world through the hole—a giant beast hundreds of feet long, with its mouth wide open, its metal tail swaying up and down, and its body covered with metal fins and bone spikes. It slowly emerged like a giant metal fish skeleton floating in the air. It was like the Leviathan from mythology. Beside this behemoth, countless Chitauri soldiers swooped down in their aircraft.
It weaved through the skyscrapers of Manhattan, its metallic fins and bony spikes scraping against the concrete buildings, the solid steel becoming as insignificant as a biscuit before its immense kinetic energy. As the behemoth roared again, its hatches opened one after another, and hordes of Zeta Swiss soldiers leaped out, clinging to the walls with their sharp claws before smashing windows and jumping inside. But before the behemoth could release any more soldiers, a bright white beam streaked past beneath it, accompanied by a sickening metallic screech, and Captain Rogers saw the behemoth sliced in two from head to tail like a lump of butter.
Then came the crash and the explosion, dust and ash, the piercing screams of the Zeta Swiss soldiers burning alive emanating from the beast's belly. For the first time, Captain Rogers found the enemy's cries surprisingly melodious. "Isn't he a mage?" he asked. "Why is he using a sword?"
"Maybe he thinks it will save him a little effort," Clint shook his head.
"Stark, did you see this?" the captain asked.
"I saw it, unbelievable," Stark said. "Who killed this big guy? Our Magic Boy? He's got some skills. But, has anyone seen Banner?"
"Dr. Banner is here," Nick Fury chimed in. "That damn little bastard let him out without telling me. The agents found Dr. Banner in the engine room; he's on his way to New York."
"Great, Dr. Banner has met his match." Stark shifted his thrusters to kill more Chitauri soldiers. "But one Magic Boy isn't enough. We need to give him a communicator, and many civilians are trapped..."
The Chitauri soldiers seemed to have received some kind of instruction; they flew in their aircraft, sweeping through the streets with laser weapons. Violent explosions ripped from one end of the street to the other, screams and cries filling the air. "These people need help," Steve Rogers said. Before he could finish, some Chitauri soldiers, armed, jumped into their vicinity. Agents Romanoff and Clint took on the task of stopping the Chitauri soldiers, giving Captain Rogers time to rescue the civilians.
More behemoths emerged from the portal into New York City, but Salomon, after killing the Chitauri soldiers along the way, left Pegasus on the top floor of Stark Tower. "Where's Loki?" he asked Thor. "I think you've seen Loki's choice. What do you intend to do, Thor? He's now seizing the throne from another king."
"He is my brother." Thor twirled his hammer in his hand. "He can only be judged by Asgard."
"Hopefully Asgard can afford the ransom, otherwise you'd better start protecting him now." The voice from within the visor was somewhat muffled. Pegasus seemed to sense something; it snorted lightly, and then a ball of fire exploded out of thin air beside Salomon. Phoenix appeared beside the sorcerer, shield and lance in hand. Salomon sheathed his sword, took the Shield of Aegis and a magnificent white lance. The image of a Gorgon with twisted, tormented features on the shield made Thor involuntarily take a step back.
Without unleashing the power of the Holy Sword, the longsword alone would be insufficient to deal with massive targets. In comparison, the lance would be the most suitable weapon. Now is not the decisive moment; Salomon will only unleash the Holy Sword after the gathered superheroes have lost faith in America. Until then, he needs to hunt as many giant beasts as possible. The Aegis, capable of petrifying the Kraken, is also Salomon's choice. He doesn't know if those half-mechanical, half-flesh giants have eyes, but it's worth a try—before that, he needs to ensure no ordinary person sees the pattern on the shield; otherwise, the Aegis will remain merely a shield.
"You still have a chance, Thor. I hope you can capture Loki before I wipe out the Chitauri." With that, Salomon gestured for Pegasus to jump off the building. Phoenix, accompanying the arcane mage, flew into the sky, charging towards a colossal beast that had just emerged from a portal. Just like in training, the arcane mage didn't charge straight at the beast, but rather slightly turned his body, aiming the tip of his lance at the beast's head. Although he didn't know the name of the lance, Salomon knew how sturdy the weapon was—now he held the lance between his legs, the tip piercing the beast's head, and with Pegasus's help, he dragged the now-dead beast to an open area.
It hurt, it really hurt. Despite the protection of his armor and the power provided by his stigmata, Salomon still felt his shoulders and arms trembling slightly. The impact had almost dislocated his arm, and his ribs ached. To hold his lance, he had to strain even harder, and he suspected the skin beneath his armor was already bruised. He raised his shield to block the Zetaul soldier's attack, then spurred his horse forward, letting Pegasus trample the foolish fellow to death.
Phoenix let out a loud cry, and the other Zeta Swiss soldiers who crawled out of the behemoth's hatch were stunned before they could react. Salomon wasted no time. He endured the pain and used his lance to string the alien creatures together and nail them to the ground. Cold blue blood flowed down the lance and piled up into a small lake.
"I shouldn't... I should be here." Four people in specially made combat suits suddenly appeared on the street. The largest one hesitated. "Did we come at the right time? It's a little embarrassing to say, but I should be here smashing things up right now."
"The multiverse must be different, otherwise there would be no need for it to be a multiverse." Salomon's visor contracted and deformed, and a burst of heat rose from his head and neck. His black bangs were stuck to his face with sweat, and his fair face was flushed. He panted, gently moved his slightly sore shoulders, and then bent down to rummage through his dimensional bag for potions.
"Have we seen you before? I don't recall you being present during the Battle of New York. Or perhaps you were there, but nobody knows?"
"You haven't seen me, but I've seen you...you in this timeline." Salomon didn't even look up, instead pouring a vial of potion into his mouth. It was just a minor injury; he still had plenty of potions. "I told you, this is the multiverse." After taking the potion, he finally raised his head, looking at the future Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and Ant-Man (what was that guy's name again? Salomon struggled to recall), "My teacher was the Sorcerer Supreme...not Strange, that guy was a noob...the Sorcerer Supreme, the previous Sorcerer Supreme to you."
"You are..." Steve Rogers said, somewhat surprised, "You know where we came from?"
“Of course, I also know where you’re going.” Salomon rode forward slowly, gazing at Tony Stark, then took a parchment from the scroll case hanging on Pegasus. “But I don’t care about the life or death of your universe, not at all,” he said expressionlessly, “but I’m happy to explore the possibilities of fate. So, Tony Stark, give this scroll to Strange; he knows what to do.”
"He's dead," said Tony Stark from the future. "He turned to dust right before my eyes. You know what I mean, to dust, without a sound."
"I know, but he will come back to life." The sorcerer bent down and slapped the scroll against Tony Stark's chest. "I want to make a deal with you, a deal you will never regret."
