Chapter 214 The Independence Movement
Chapter 214 The Independence Movement (Second Update!)
Even in his armor, Thor's relentless slaps on Salomon's back felt like blunt force, nearly forcing air out of his lungs. Loki watched with a smile, confident that Salomon understood how he had felt over the past fifteen hundred years; his brother Thor had always been so clumsy, and even as a frost giant, he couldn't always tolerate it.
"Salomon." The arcane mage finally escaped Thor's embrace, and Nick Fury's voice came through the earpiece. "You need to talk to Pierce... He's a Security Council official, and he's taking the elevator to the top floor of Stark Tower. You don't need to say too much; he's with S.H.I.E.L.D., and he's my old boss. Although he's extremely unhappy that I've kept your information from him, I think you can communicate with him."
"No." Salomon rejected Nick Fury's request without hesitation, and beckoned Pegasus down from the balcony. "When did you think I had the patience to deal with bureaucracy?" he said. "And I haven't settled the matter of launching the nuclear missile with you yet."
“Speaking of nuclear weapons,” Nick Fury asked, “where did you hide that missile? The World Security Council lost signal from it, and you have no idea how panicked they were. I know you have a portal, but the satellites didn’t detect any signs of a nuclear explosion, not even any seismic waves.”
"It's already exploded." Salomon took the golden reins and pulled Pegasus away from Natasha. This stupid horse was always trying to lick beautiful women, and although Natasha didn't mind, and was even a little happy about it, Salomon thought it was time to teach it a lesson.
"I don't believe your nonsense, but we can put the nuclear bomb thing aside for now. You've never made a mistake before," Nick Fury said. "Pierce just wants to chat with you. He knows nothing about you, and I can't reveal your information because of your contract. So, you can tell him some basics, that's all, tell him if you have family or something."
“I could only tell him that I don’t know who my father is, and that my mother died after giving birth to me.” Salomon’s topic piqued Natasha’s interest, and she touched his newly cut short hair. Before, she couldn’t have imagined Salomon’s background at all, but now she understood him somewhat. The sorcerer shook his head, refusing Natasha’s touch, because he had already found family for himself. He said to Nick Fury, “I do have a wet nurse, and I think Pierce might be interested in meeting her.”
"You still have family members alive?" Nick Fury seemed somewhat delighted. "Great, that's what I meant."
"Of course, my wet nurse also has a beard; I just fed her a bundle of grass this morning."
"That's a fucking goat! You little bastard!"
"That's all I can say. If your boss is interested, I can teach him how to milk a goat." Salomon quickly removed his headset, tossed it back to Agent Romanov, and let Nick Fury's roar ring out. Then he put his armor back on, reverting to his aloof knight persona. But Natasha wasn't afraid. She said mischievously, "I've never seen anyone leave Fury helpless. You're the first."
"That's because you haven't seen enough." Salomon shook his head, his neck armor rubbing against each other with a soft sound.
"I think I've seen quite a lot."
"Very well, then I hope you won't reveal my information, ma'am," Salomon said. "I trust you can do that."
"I'm best at keeping secrets," Natasha said, narrowing her eyes. "So, what will you offer as payment?"
"Your wish." And so, a secret alliance was formed. The arcane mage blinked, though no one else could see, "I hope Stark can hurry. Pegasus is hungry, and so am I. I just hope that barbecue restaurant will let the horses in."
Pegasus let out a cheerful hiss in agreement.
"Then I'll go check on how the boys are doing," Agent Romanov said. "Hopefully, I won't always be the one cleaning up their messes."
After Natasha left, Salomon nodded to the people behind the bar, then led his horse away to the stairwell.
He has completed all his work.
--------------
"I look fucking handsome on camera," Salomon muttered, sitting on the sofa with an iced cola in his hand. He had changed out of all his armor, not even his cult robes, and was now wearing only a very loose sheepskin pajama set. He casually flipped through TV channels with the remote, but unsurprisingly, all the stations were reporting on the details of the Battle of New York—major news worldwide.
"You should be thankful there aren't any more nuclear bombs, little one, or we wouldn't have been able to save our home." Bayonetta sat beside Salomon, the sorcerer's nostrils filled with the scent of her perfume. She held a bowl of fruit in her hands, casually eating kiwis and oranges, spoonful after spoonful. Joan of Arc sat on the other side of the sofa, a little further away, and she didn't look very happy.
The Battle of New York primarily affected Manhattan; Bayonetta's apartment was largely unaffected, let alone Mount Athena. The orphanage children could only see the azure pillar of light on the horizon; the behemoth appeared no different from a tiny ant to them. Joan of Arc was furious about this, believing Salomon had deprived her of a chance to prove herself.
"You should be glad I didn't let you do that." Salomon opened his mouth, and Bayonetta shoved a spoonful of orange into it. The arcane muttered, "You have no idea how annoying some politicians are. Although I didn't have much magic back then, it was more than enough to kill a few annoying idiots... Ha, look, that bastard's on TV."
"I think those superheroes should be held responsible for this...this is a disaster they caused..."
"See? This is why I hate constitutional democracy. Any idiot can talk. The Sorcerer Supreme really made them too safe." Salomon tossed the remote control aside with a look of disdain. "This idiot even tried to rush up and question me. Maybe it's because I'm holding a sword instead of a gun, or maybe the camera behind him gave him the courage. He wants to use this as a publicity stunt."
On television, a knight in armor clenched his fist and, with a speed that no ordinary person could react to, punched the senator in the face. Whether to mock the senator or to highlight Salomon's brutality, the news broadcast deliberately slowed down the footage so viewers could see the senator's face contorted in agony.
"Congressman West is out of danger... He suffered a comminuted fracture of his cheekbone... Congressman West's family wants to sue the knight, but S.H.I.E.L.D. refuses to release information about the superhero..."
"I think I went a little too far. But if I could use magic, he might have been killed." The sorcerer looked at Joan of Arc. "I think if you were in that situation, you would probably have just shot him."
Joan of Arc rolled her eyes, tacitly agreeing with Salomon's words.
"And then, what happened to you?" Bayonetta asked curiously.
"Next, I finally managed to get away from the media. You know how annoying they are. Then, I went to a dinner party... but to be honest, the barbecue there was really bad; only Thor could eat it. Pegasus ate most of it, and when I got back to Kamar-Taj, the Sorcerer Supreme had already finished the roast beef and even drank all the orange soda in my fridge!"
"Experts speculate that the knight's true identity is very likely King Arthur of ancient Britain, and a large number of people in Northern Ireland and Scotland have launched independence marches... The organizers of the marches claim that they want to welcome the return of the true king... They declare the House of Windsor to be usurpers..."
"Do you want to be king?" The witch raised her eyebrows and put the fruit bowl aside.
"Of course."
"The royal family can't be without an heir... Oh, you blush, how cute!"
