Chapter 219 Shameless

Chapter 219 Shameless (First Update)

An electrical signal was transmitted via a deeply buried underground route to a cell tower, which then relayed it to another tower. The signal hopped frequently between different locations until it was certain no one was tracking it. Finally, it passed through the atmosphere and reached a secret satellite over the United States. After reviewing the signal's request, the satellite inserted it into a base station in New York City, which then delivered the signal to the target mobile phone.

Salomon frowned as he glanced at the unknown number displayed on his phone screen. This was the day after he stormed Trisolaris headquarters and killed the Skrulls. Yesterday's gathering had ended hastily after the news he brought, with everyone going their separate ways—Thor and Loki had returned to Asgard, Agents Romanoff and Clint were missing, Captain Rogers remained silent about his plans, and Tony Stark repeatedly reviewed the S.H.I.E.L.D. information he knew.

Salomon himself was waiting for Romanov's report.

"Do you know what you're doing?" The familiar voice came from the other end of the phone, and Salomon could clearly feel Nick Fury's anger even on the other end. But the arcane mage showed no remorse whatsoever; in fact, Nick Fury's questioning reignited his anger, which had just subsided.

"Of course I know what I'm doing." Salomon's self-control was excellent, but the fiery tone in his voice drew sidelong glances from the witches sitting beside him. Bayonetta gently stroked Salomon's short hair, hoping the sorceress wouldn't be blinded by rage. Salomon shook his head, indicating he wouldn't do anything irrational. He took a deep breath. "I wish you understood what you were doing, Nick Fury. You've released cosmic parasites into Earth."

"Agent Romanoff has already told me about this." Ha, a spy. Salomon couldn't fathom Natasha's thoughts at all, but it was expected that she would inform Nick Fury; the sorcerer wasn't too surprised. The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was furious. "They're my allies! You've completely ruined my plans; all subsequent investigations can't proceed!"

"I don't want to concern myself with S.H.I.E.L.D. affairs. I want you to understand that Kamar-Taj didn't exist so that alien races could share Earth. This is betrayal, Nick Fury. You can't control the Skrulls, just as you can't control magic," Salomon said. "The Skrulls are parasites living off society; you know what they're capable of. Tell me, if they decide to hide, or transform into high-ranking officials to control secular society, do you have a way to find them?"

Nick Fury fell silent for a long while before speaking, "I trusted them, but you broke that trust by killing the few remaining members of their group."

"The Skrulls are not trustworthy. Only a fool would trust that race. I will never entrust the safety of human society to your fragile trust with the Skrulls." The sorcerer's disdain even spilled through Nick Fury's phone receiver. "Never."

"I won't entrust the safety of Earth to a sorcerer I know nothing about," Nick Fury said. "Like I said, we're the same kind of people."

"Very well, you'll never trust me, and I'll never trust you, so what's there for us to talk about?" Salomon said. "But you'll have to pay the price for betraying humanity, Nick Fury."

"I will never betray humanity! The Skrulls are the race that helps me protect Earth. Everything you've done is extremely narrow-minded. You know about the world beyond Earth, yet you and your sorcerers have limited your vision to Earth! Earthlings alone cannot cope with threats from the universe. We need to cooperate!"

"Say what you will, but allowing the Skrulls to enter Earth is absolutely unacceptable, and cooperating with them is also unacceptable." The sorcerer delivered his verdict decisively. "Once they set foot on Earth, there will only be one fate awaiting this disgusting race: death! I will perform divination and prophecy, and eliminate those guys one by one. If you insist on opposing me on this matter, then this will also be your fate, even if your task is something no one else can do. It's better to let certain things happen than for human society to be infiltrated by the Skrulls."

"You really are magnanimous," Nick Fury said sarcastically. "But I didn't come to you just for this."

"The Skrull I killed has told me part of the story; he said you discovered something."

"Yes, there might be problems within S.H.I.E.L.D., but I haven't found any leads yet, so it's still just suspicion. And that Skrull you killed was a stand-in I was prepared to use when I went underground. Do you understand, you little brat?"

"I know, but I'm not sorry. Besides, that Skrull knew about Kamar-Taj, and I suspect he might be trying to circumvent the contract (Skrulls gain access to the recent memories of the person they're imitating) and leak my information to your superior."

"Monther F*uck! I absolutely have no such intention! You little bastard, can't you trust me a little more?"

"I'll trust you more when you stop spying on magic. It's a pity I spoke to the Skrulls yesterday, not you. But I don't want to waste my breath repeating it. Look at the trouble you've caused; half the trouble S.H.I.E.L.D. has to solve is your own doing." Salomon was so angry he couldn't even eat his macarons. "F*uck off, Nick Fury."

"I can handle things at S.H.I.E.L.D. myself. Because of your recklessness, I have to speed things up. This is a personal request, unrelated to S.H.I.E.L.D. I can't let this distract me. It's all your fault, so you have to do me this favor!" Nick Fury stated his request before Salomon could object. The sorcerer listened silently for a while, then hung up the phone, lost in thought.

"What did that guy say?" Jeanne asked curiously. Salomon had already told the witches about the Skrulls' entry into Earth yesterday when he returned to the apartment. The witches couldn't believe that the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would still dare to make a request after making such a mistake; this man's skin was incredibly thick.

"This is a personal request, and has nothing to do with S.H.I.E.L.D. affairs." Salomon's expression was displeased. "I could refuse, but refusing could very well affect a future extinction-level event. I need this person; I need him to stop it from happening. Although Nick Fury doesn't know my thoughts, I cannot refuse his request."

"What is it?" The witches became even more curious after hearing Salomon's question.

"Remember that nice guy from S.H.I.E.L.D. I told you about?" Salomon's phone received a text message with a coordinate. "That guy's dead," he said. "I'm off to oversee the project that brought him back to life."

"So, are you satisfied with the results of my work?" Natasha sat on a park bench, enjoying the warm afternoon sun. The shade from the trees made the temperature just right, enough to make one yawn sleepily. She wore sunglasses and very ordinary clothes that concealed her good figure. The location was secluded, and no one passed by. She leaned back on the bench and said to the person sitting on the other bench, "Didn't I fulfill your request?"

"Madam, you're quite cunning. I suppose you knew all along that Nick Fury would contact me, didn't you?" Salomon snorted in dissatisfaction, turning his face to the female spy's. "And you also knew that Nick Fury would invite you to assist in the investigation, yet you did practically nothing."

"That's a spy's trick, little boy," Natasha said with a laugh. "You can't back out now."

"I will not break my oath. Now, state your request; I have a general idea of what it is."

"Oh?" Natasha raised an eyebrow. "I'm curious too, what do you know? But I have a question you must answer first. Don't worry, it's not something too personal; it should be common sense for you."

"Ask away."

"Is magic omnipotent?"

"Yes, but the spellcaster is not."

"So, can you fulfill my request?"

"Perhaps, ma'am."

"Are you so sure what I'm going to do? What if you're wrong?" Natasha moved closer, pressing her cheek against Salomon's. "How about we play a game? We'll bet on whether your request is the same as mine. If I lose, then you can keep making your requests..."

Raise your hand if you want to join the group. If there are enough people, I'll post the group number.
