Chapter 240 Ghost Rider's Little Plane
Chapter 240 Ghost Rider's Little Plane (Second Update)
“No, Kasirius, I’m seventeen. My birthday hasn’t come yet, but I’m an adult… Don’t follow American law, follow Kamar-Taj’s adult standards.” Salomon found a less dirty spot, sat down, and called Kasirius to find out why the Temple Deacons hadn’t appeared yet—for Kamar-Taj, a Ghost Rider capable of tracking down demons wasn’t enough; the key was Mephisto. The Temple Deacons wouldn’t act rashly before finding Mephisto, lest they alert him and allow the cunning demon to escape.
These were minor issues; the more serious problem was that Kasirius refused to let Salomon delve deeper into the mission, because this mission, like the last, involved confronting Mephisto's avatar. Kasirius feared that Salomon would be seduced by Mephisto, signing a contract and selling his soul to the devil. Therefore, he only wanted Salomon to do peripheral work—a request Salomon naturally couldn't agree to. He argued his case and finally managed to secure the option of working with the Temple Deacons—better than having to accept a mission only if he couldn't. Before Father Morru could mock Salomon, the roar of the plane's engines interrupted the sorcerer's thoughts. A moment later, the dilapidated iron door opened, and Nick Fury, always dressed in black leather, burst in.
"Where is Ghost Rider?" That was his first question, and he received the middle finger from Salomon.
"F*uck off, Nick Fury." Salomon jumped to the ground and walked over, the android following behind him with its greatsword. "Get your men back. I'm not kidding, I need Ghost Rider right now. He's important. How important? Important enough that I'd kill you. Stop messing around and get out of here."
Nick Fury looked Salomon into the eyes. He knew Salomon knew about the future, which was why the Archmage hadn't killed him. Since the Archmage was so uncompromising on this matter, to the point that he would be killed if he interfered with the events, it meant the threat level was extremely high. The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. might cause trouble, but he wasn't a bureaucrat; he knew what was most important, which was why he left the task force on the Airbus while he and several agents landed on the ground in a Quinjet.
"Want to talk?" he asked.
“No.” Salomon waved his hand, pointing to the somewhat drunken black priest behind him. He always kept a bottle of wine in his pouch, which the priest had already finished, complaining that Salomon didn't appreciate the blood of Jesus. “Talk to him,” Salomon said, intending to hand Nick Fury over to the priest. “I just need to finish my mission.”
Nick Fury glanced at Salomon and walked over, seemingly also looking for someone he could communicate with.
Winter was approaching, and darkness fell very quickly. Coupled with the recent two days of continuous rain, it was already quite dark in Salomon's fingers, even before dinner time. The moisture evaporating from the buildings carried away heat, making him shiver even without a breeze. "I heard you saved Coulson?" a voice much colder than the temperature sounded behind Salomon. "I'm Melinda. Thank you for saving him."
"I just did a small favor." The sorcerer didn't bother to turn around, and the android didn't react either, because Agent Melinda hadn't entered the alert range. The android possessed dim vision and dark vision; Dina could see everything in the dark, including anyone who wanted to attack Salomon. Agent Melinda had no intention of attacking, otherwise the android would have retaliated immediately.
"I've seen your file. Many years ago, Agent Coulson came to me with your file." Agent Melinda stepped forward again. "He believed you were adopted by an organization that collects enhanced individuals and were working as their henchmen. He came to me with your file to rescue you. At that time, I had just gone through something (the Baling Island incident)... In short, he's a good man and shouldn't have been treated that way. But I want you to keep his resurrection a secret. This is also Director Fury's wish. Coulson shouldn't know what he went through; it was too painful for him."
"Of course," Salomon agreed without turning his head; it was a small matter to him. As darkness fell, his attention was focused on the low warehouse across the street. "What are you looking at?" Under the android's watchful eye, Agent Melinda slowly walked to Salomon's side and looked out at the gloomy sky with him.
"Are you waiting for it to rain?" she asked.
"We're waiting for something you'll encounter again later. It might be beneficial to see what happens now." All the deals Salomon and the priest made had one condition: Ghost Rider had to find Mephisto's son. If he couldn't, there was no point in discussing anything further. Johnny Blaze was more than happy to be rid of the Spirit of Vengeance, and he would fight tooth and nail for this opportunity. The instant the sunlight completely disappeared, a chilling scream of pain rang out. Agent Melinda instinctively drew her pistol, but the android grabbed her wrist.
"What's going on?" The wailing not only drew the attention of Agent Melinda, but also prompted Nick Fury and Father Moru to rush out—though the priest's steps were less steady, as heaven knows how much he had drunk beforehand; the wine Salomon had given him was nothing compared to this.
The flames that erupted from the warehouse across the street told them the answer.
The rusty metal door was suddenly flung open, and a burning skull emerged. Perhaps Johnny Blaze had suppressed Ghost Rider for too long, so the Spirit of Vengeance, upon reappearing, was only concerned with cheering and venting its anger. Fortunately, Johnny Blaze remembered his mission. He glanced at the Quinjet parked nearby—"Not that one, ride your own motorcycle, you bastard!"—Amid Nick Fury's furious shouts, Ghost Rider drove his motorcycle onto the top of the Quinjet and then chained it to the aircraft.
Hellfire spread downwards along the chains, twisting and deforming the metal, adding many gruesome skeletal decorations. Before Nick Fury could rush over in a fit of rage to stop him, Ghost Rider activated the Quinjet on his own, sending him flying in a certain direction.
"That's it?" Nick Fury jumped up in anger. "He just drove off in my Quinjet without even asking?"
"The Demonborn are there." Salomon looked in the direction the Quinjet had disappeared, then glanced at Nick Fury. "I hope you know what you're facing."
"Of course I know!" Nick Fury nodded. With the help of alcohol, he had already learned the cause and effect of the incident from the black priest, and he knew what he should do. Just like before, he needed to cooperate and avoid trouble. "Father Moru has told me what happened, but I can't guarantee it's all accurate because he's had too much to drink."
"I'm going to track Ghost Rider's movements now." The arcane mage lowered his head and sent a text message to someone. Johnny Blaze's reply did not satisfy him; whether someone was helping Ghost Rider was crucial, and he had to verify it.
"Take me with you!" Father Moru said, leaning against the wall, forcing himself to speak. "I promise to give him salvation!"
"Who told him to drink so much? Isn't a bottle of wine enough?"
"I shared some whiskey with him," Nick Fury said, shaking his stainless steel flask.
"Uh, Americans!" The sorcerer rolled his eyes. "I'll go myself."
Ignoring the glances from the other agents, Salomon jumped out of the window. Before Nick Fury could react, a white shooting star streaked across the sky, carrying the arcane mage and the android away.
"Sir, is he...?" Melinda asked suspiciously. "Isn't he a knight?"
"That was just a prop that little bastard used to fool people." Nick Fury waved his hand, signaling Melinda to contact Airbus command. "We have to keep up and get another Quinjet from SHIELD's Eastern European base. We can't afford to fall behind on what's coming next."
