Chapter 244 Treasures Everywhere
Chapter 244 Treasure Troves Everywhere (Second Update!)
Melinda May was a highly skilled pilot, but the Airbus wasn't an unarmed transport plane, and not all the agents on board were internal staff. Salomon only heard a muffled explosion outside, followed by the Airbus shaking violently several times, even waking Father Moru. Finally, Agent Melinda May entered expressionlessly and reported the outcome of the engagement.
Salomon filtered out the overly complex information; he couldn't understand the military jargon or anything about investigating drone manufacturers. Taking advantage of that time, he slipped out of his office and headed towards the medical ward in the lower cabin. The android was watching the boy and Ghost Rider to ensure they didn't suddenly disappear—no one knew what the devil's methods were, and surveillance was better than none. The boy's mother, Nadja, was too emotionally distraught and, after being given a sedative, was handcuffed to the bed. Salomon had the android untangle one of the handcuffs, forcibly releasing Nadja. "Good morning, ma'am. This is breakfast prepared for you."
But his actions didn't elicit gratitude. "What do you want to know?" she said. "That Homeland Security thing… they've already asked me, and I've told them everything I know. When can I see my child?" A large patch of her dark eyeshadow was blurred. "I just want him!"
"Calm down, ma'am." Salomon pulled up a chair and sat down beside the bed. "What I want to ask you is how you conceived. Was it through normal means, or through a dream?"
"I've already said that!" Nadya slammed her hand on the bed railing, her voice hoarse. "I already said it! Can you tell me how Danny is now?" The sorcerer looked at the android. "Master," the android said, holding the medical record on the bedside table, "the sedative for this lady has long since worn off, and the medical staff didn't give her much medication."
"That's good news, at least it gives me someone sober to ask." Salomon put the plate aside. "Are you really unwilling to talk to me about this? I'm very curious about conceiving through precocity. Sorry, this is a private matter, and I need to know the details."
"Unless you let me see Danny." Nadja seemed to think Salomon was someone she could communicate with, so she slowly calmed down. "Let me see him."
“Madam, he needs plenty of rest. Your lifestyle doesn't really allow for ‘proper rest.’ He’s in the room right across from yours. You’ll see him when he wakes up.” Salomon’s fingertips met. “Now, can we talk? I still have many questions about how you conceived.”
"Is this it?" Salomon slowly stepped off the transport plane from the rear cargo door. Like a sailor who has spent a long time at sea, the feeling of being on solid ground is always different from being on an airplane, especially after a long, non-stop flight. When he told others about this feeling, they thought Salomon was just being overly sensitive, and that he could get a prescription if needed, including for illegal drugs.
Upon disembarking, the first thing that caught their eye was a vast, barren desert, followed by groups of heavily armed agents in black tactical gear, a large quantity of weaponry, and one or two howitzers painted in desert camouflage. "I didn't expect it to be like this," the arcane mage asked Nick Fury. "While it's not as impressive as what happened in Old Bridge (Thor 1), don't you think using this level of weaponry to deal with mercenaries and arms dealers is a bit over the top?"
"That's not enough." Nick Fury and the sorcerer walked forward together. This was the address Father Moru had given them; the agents had already searched the place. It was a monastery carved into the rock face, where Catholic friars of the Cassirer order practiced. This was also the place Father Moru had mentioned, the place where purification rituals could be performed—Salomon believed that with this demonic being about to lose its power, the avatar of Mephisto couldn't possibly be indifferent. Therefore, he believed the demon's attack was imminent.
"As you can see, we've been attacked." Nick Fury and Salomon walked together toward the monastery, Father Moru and Agent Melinda leading the way. "Those two drones were extended Predator-C drones, manufactured by General Atomics Aerospace Systems. If you don't know, I can tell you that this company is part of General Dynamics, an American corporation. That means the devil's influence has infiltrated the US government. I can't guarantee that the next enemy won't include the US military or some other shady forces, you understand? I have to create a situation suitable for dealing with supernatural beings."
"Or perhaps you intend to blast both the demon's secular and supernatural powers to smithereens." The sorcerer glanced at the boy and his mother following behind them, and the android lagging behind to monitor them. He had already received the answers he sought from Nadya, and he had also obtained the results he expected regarding some questions that had been troubling him.
"As long as the supernatural forces you mentioned aren't as powerful as Thor's," Nick Fury said, pointing to a military tent ahead. "Captain Rogers is here too; he'll help you."
"Where's Stark?"
"He's busy developing a new Iron Man suit. You should know that, after all, you worked with him before," Nick Fury greeted Captain Rogers as he emerged from the tent. After the Battle of New York, Captain Rogers' uniform underwent a modification, and the rounded, cartoonish style of the 1920s and 30s had disappeared.
Captain Rogers approached them upon seeing them. "I've seen Stark," he continued, "He looked very tired, so I think it's best if he doesn't participate in this operation."
"I didn't intend for him to participate; he'd only cause trouble. You've already seen the mission briefing, Captain. I won't go into detail about these people," Nick Fury said. "How's it going inside?"
"After being persuaded by Agent Romanov, the monks have given up resisting," Captain Rogers said. "But they still refuse to let us search the sacristy because there are many fragile artifacts there. In addition, we also found a large quantity of wine in the cellar."
"This monastery is two thousand years old, and these monks have been making wine since then," Father Moru said. "They are all my brothers, and I hope they haven't been treated badly."
"We won't do that, as long as they don't resist." Nick Fury waved his hand, signaling Agent Melinda and Captain Rogers to take the boy and his mother away. "Prepare for that purification ritual, and have the action team get ready; we might face some unexpected enemies. Where's Salomon? Has anyone seen him?"
"Vishanti! Dina, look at this!" Salomon carefully held up a curled, yellowed parchment in both hands. In the dimly lit sacristy, the writing on the parchment was somewhat blurred, but the sorcerer still managed to decipher its contents. "You certainly won't believe this. This is the original copy of *The Golden Legend*, written by Jacobus Davaragini, the 13th-century Dominican priest and Archbishop of Genoa, Italy! It recounts the story of Martha and her brother leaving Judea by ship after Jesus' death, and taming the dragon. And this, the martial arts used by this Iron-Fisted Saintess, created by Jacob wrestling with the messenger of God, a technique powerful enough to kill angels: Jacob's Hands and Feet! And this…"
The sorcerer had the android take the parchment containing the martial arts techniques, then turned to pick up something else.
"This is it, Kabbalah."
"What are you doing here?!" Agent Romanov suddenly burst in. "Many people saw you sneak in. Come out with me right now, the attack has begun, we need you!"
