Chapter 246 Battlefield Support
Chapter 246 Battlefield Support (Second Update!)
"Finally some good news." Nick Fury angrily threw down his phone, rubbing his forehead to try and ease his headache. "Ankara Air Base finally agreed to send an F-22 armed with ground-attack missiles. I bet some bureaucrat is pulling the strings. Damn it, I should have known. These mercenaries even have armed drones, what else don't they have?"
"RPG! Watch out!"
"Alright, they even have anti-tank missiles now, old Stark Industries stuff! Shit! How many parasites are still in our system? F*uck! F*uck!" Nick Fury dusted off his leather jacket and turned to the agent behind him, asking, "Any news from Captain Rogers?" — "No, sir," the agent replied. "We've lost contact with Captain Rogers for 15 minutes. Should we send another team to support him?" — "No, no." The director of SHIELD felt his headache getting worse. "I've already sent support. Leave it to him. Hey, send a team to Agent Melinda May's place to keep an eye on the kids and those monks. I heard those monks aren't very nice. Damn it, damn it, why isn't he contacting me! He must have thrown away his headset!"
"I anticipated the possibility of vampires. Although it's still quite bright, vampires don't usually appear at this time." Salomon broke a large piece of chocolate in half, giving half to the android and the other half to Captain Rogers and his team. The soldiers were initially curious about the delicate-looking girl in the frivolous dress appearing on the battlefield, but when they saw the android wielding the giant sword, riding a motorcycle across the battlefield, and easily cleaving a supernatural creature in two, their doubts vanished. Of course, they had similar suspicions about Salomon, as none of them had ever seen a dragon before, and a red and black dragon descending from the sky had nearly terrified them. After the red and black dragon trampled a supernatural creature to death, it transformed into a person in a red robe, and they almost fired at Salomon.
However, Captain Rogers's guarantee of his reputation temporarily dispelled the team's doubts.
They saw arcs of flame and spherical thunderclouds erupt from Salomon's fingertips, thick fog enveloping the entire battlefield. They could see nothing but intermittent flashes of crimson fire and blue-green lightning, hear the agonizing howls of the supernatural creatures, and smell the gradually spreading odors of ozone and sulfur, the air thick with the scent of ashes. Salomon hadn't managed to annihilate the enemy, but those who frantically fled the fog were all killed by S.H.I.E.L.D. snipers. As the fog dissipated slightly, they saw Salomon carrying several deformed heads toward their cover.
"Is he a wizard?" one of the team members leaned closer to Captain Rogers and whispered, "Could he curse us?"
"Probably not. I've seen him curse others before, but definitely not now." The captain shook his head. "Just don't make him angry."
"You fought alongside him?" The team member recalled his comrades who had died at the hands of those supernatural creatures. He touched his empty magazine pouch; if he could, he even wanted to take off his helmet and run his fingers through his hair. He had come into close contact with those filthy creatures; the supernatural hybrid mercenaries were simply too powerful. When those supernatural creatures charged, they were like madmen. He vividly remembered that foul-smelling maw; he even suspected that fleas were crawling in his hair. "Where did these monsters come from? They're so strong, they can even dodge bullets! This world is getting weirder and weirder!"
"Indeed." Captain Rogers shrugged, his wrist throbbing slightly. He was increasingly unable to understand this world. In the past, he was the world's most outstanding scientific achievement, but now? There were wizards, millionaires flying around in Iron Man suits, aliens, and even gods who could wield hammers that no one could lift. As for vampires and werewolves, they no longer surprised him; the appearance of a talking planet was perfectly reasonable.
The sorcerer didn't scrutinize everyone present, as the task force was a major target of Hydra, and who knew who among them might be who wasn't? Salomon continued, "They could be werewolves, or even some undead creatures, or low-level demons from Hell. But I didn't expect all of them to be here, so I didn't waste my time. Spells are precious, so I chose the most cost-effective one. It's not something that requires much thought to accomplish, how about that?"
"I didn't know you could do these things, turn into a dragon or something." Captain Rogers took the last piece of chocolate, somewhat curious. "Thank you. Do you know where these monsters come from?"
"Dark magic creatures may come from some dark corners of the earth, because we haven't left them much room to survive. Of course, we haven't told anyone about this either. You know, things aren't like they used to be. Humans, once they're full, like to empathize with all sorts of random things to show off their useless kindness." The sorcerer kicked the deformed head at his feet. "As for this... it was summoned. They smuggled themselves in. Their superiors must be nearby. After all, I haven't seen any wizards here who can summon demons. If there had been, that wizard wouldn't have died at my hands..."
The android stepped forward, wielding her greatsword, and sliced a hand that was writhing toward the arcane mage in two. She acted swiftly, for some spellcasters would unleash area-of-effect spells through manipulated undead, and she would not overlook any threat for the sake of her master's safety.
Salomon turned around at the sound. "Vishanti, what is that?" He stared wide-eyed, hardly believing what he was seeing. The mangled bodies of the dark magic creatures he had killed were rapidly rotting, various putrid bones being pulled out and converging in a certain direction deep within the clouds. He vaguely saw the bones being pieced together to form a giant hound composed of rotting flesh and bones, but when he cast a spell to disperse the mist, the undead creature vanished.
"What is this?" Captain Rogers asked.
"There's a necromancer hiding around here, a very powerful one. He's been hiding for a while now and hasn't shown himself. He's with other people, otherwise, given the necromancer's personality, he would never make a move at this time." The sorcerer looked around but saw nothing. "Do you have any powerful explosive devices with you?"
"They were all used up before you arrived," Captain Rogers said. "I'm still a little surprised. Is this black magic?"
"Actually, I can do these things too, you just haven't seen them before. Fine, fine, I have to do it anyway." Salomon gave the middle finger and stepped out of cover. He chanted a spell, and a huge, indistinct white spirit appeared behind him. He planned to use the Vishanti's spirit guards to temporarily replace the homunculus's security duties. "Dina," he said, "you go find that necromancer and kill him. Then leave this big guy to me."
"Yes, Master." The android dragged the giant sword and turned to carry out the order.
"What are we going to do?" one of the team members asked. "We know those monsters aren't afraid of bullets, but surely we can do something? How can we send those bastards to hell?"
"Recite hymns, if you have studied them."
