Chapter 253 The Mystery of Lilith

Chapter 253 The Mystery of Lilith (Second Update!)

In legend, Lilith had extremely complex relationships with both the Queen of Sheba and Solomon. Even within the various texts of the Kamar-Taj collection, there are differing accounts of the demon's origins.

Some books claim that Lilith was originally Lilithu, the storm spirit of Mesopotamian mythology, or Barat of Canaan; others believe that before becoming a Mesopotamian goddess, her body was separated and abandoned in different locations on Earth by three angels (or imprisoned in the corpse of Tiamat in the primordial ocean of life), but her soul wandered the Earth. She became a goddess of Atlantis, created the first vampires, and after the Atlantean gods were forgotten, she became a Mesopotamian goddess; in some legends, Lilith was the daughter of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, but became pregnant with King Solomon's child (Salomon is not entirely sure if this claim is correct).

The Book of Isaiah in the Bible claims that Lilith is Lamia, the prototype of the vampire. Also in the Bible, Lilith became Adam's first wife, then left Adam, fell into the lower plane, and married Samael, having many children, but was eventually driven away. Some even say that Lilith is a succubus from the lower plane, a nightmare banshee representing lust, with lovers in various pantheons.

Regardless of which of these contradictory statements are true, which are false, or even if they are all lies, one thing is undeniable: Lilith was extremely interested in King Solomon. Salomon didn't know whether she was allied with an avatar or the real Mephisto, but when the cunning Mephisto used Salomon as bait, Lilith immediately took the bait.

Salomon let out a long sigh of relief. He ignored Captain Rogers, who was dangling in the air by a cable, and instead looked up at the sky. After Bayonetta's shout, the dense thunderclouds in the sky dispersed, revealing the upper bodies of two enormous female demons. These were Lady Butterfly, who was bound to Bayonetta, and Lady Styx, who was bound to Joan of Arc. The two witches stood before the two demons, looking down at the sorcerer.

Lilith, who had extended one arm from the portal, was stopped, so she stretched out her other hand and used both hands to forcefully widen the portal's doors until half of her body was sticking out. Regardless of what the ordinary people on the airbus thought upon seeing this, Salomon himself could never have imagined that such a sophisticated spell as a portal could be expanded by brute force. Bayonetta and Jeanne leaped from the magic circle in the air, landing on the aircraft deck. Lady Styx and Lady Butterfly vanished instantly, and the airbus, with one wing still burning, plummeted downwards again, the whistling wind filling the sorcerer's ears once more.

Captain Rogers had already climbed back into the cabin using the cable, otherwise he would have had to endure another terrible turbulence.

"Boya, did you miss me?" Bayonetta even greeted him, giving the sorcerer a kiss on the cheek, seemingly making some kind of gesture. Jeanne's expression, however, was much more serious, as the demon, now revealing its massive upper body, once again swung its hand towards the air bus. Although Salomon also wanted to know why they had appeared at this time, now was not the time to ask such questions.

"Ceresa!" Joan of Arc alerted Bayonetta to the urgency of the situation.

"Alright, alright." Bayonetta winked at the sorcerer, then summoned Lady Butterfly again. This time, Lady Butterfly's aura was even more ferocious than before. Bayonetta also summoned Lady Butterfly's complete form. This female demon leaped out of the summoning circle and pounced directly at Lilith, who had long, dark curly hair and small fangs. The two enormous female demons clashed in mid-air. Every punch Lady Butterfly threw was accompanied by a sharp, sonic boom, and every counterattack Lilith launched was accompanied by dazzling magical light. Salomon continuously cast Featherfall spells on the falling airbus, trying to slow the transport plane's descent. Jeanne was not idle either; while Salomon was casting spells, she and the homunculus slaughtered the vampires that were chasing after them.

Unseen by Salomon, Jeanne leaped from the aircraft deck, using her high heels to stomp on the vampires as she ascended before freefalling. She stretched her limbs in mid-air, her heels and the pistols in her hands firing incessantly, each vampire receiving a lethal bullet. Behind the slowly descending airbus, a gigantic crimson rose bloomed from top to bottom, like a deep red silk ribbon fluttering at the tail of the plane. But this spectacular sight was shattered by a gust of wind before anyone could witness it—Lilith and Madame Butterfly had "accidentally" brushed past the airbus during the battle. The winds generated by the fight were comparable to a hurricane, and the airbus, like a fallen leaf, was tossed about several times in the air.

Salomon didn't know how the people on the plane were doing, but judging from his own experience, it was definitely not pleasant. Spiderwalking wasn't a gravity-manipulation spell; he was constantly under the influence of gravity. The rapidly spinning airbus was like a washing machine drum, and the arcane mage was like a cat that had accidentally fallen into it. When the airbus finally came to a slow stop, he was completely disoriented. Fortunately, the Featherfall spell didn't require his intervention, and the airbus continued its slow descent, which was at least some good news.

As the aerial bus descended into a dense, dark forest, high in the sky, invisible to ordinary people, the two enormous female demons were still locked in battle. The arcane mage could only gauge the situation through the occasional bursts of light that illuminated the night sky like shooting stars. Through these fleeting flashes of light, he saw Bayonetta and Jeanne d'Arc darting through the aftershocks of the battle, clearing away the vampire monsters.

After a long while, the cargo hold door of the Airbus finally opened with a clatter, revealing the barely functional interior of the battered transport plane. Nick Fury emerged with a grim face, and when he saw Salomon standing on the deck gazing at the sky, he felt a surge of rage. But he couldn't vent his anger, because the two women fighting in the sky were Salomon's live-in partners.

When he began investigating Salomon, he discovered that the people surrounding the sorcerer were all highly suspicious. Whether it was the two alluring women living with him or his beautiful foster mother, their identities were extremely dubious, and their early lives were completely blank. Nick Fury employed covert surveillance and investigation, attempting to uncover Salomon's weaknesses through these individuals, and even planning to use them as leverage to blackmail Salomon if necessary.

But now it seems that those two roommates are like Thor—human nuclear bombs, and uncontrolled ones at that. S.H.I.E.L.D. knows nothing about them, let alone blackmails them. If they wanted to, destroying S.H.I.E.L.D. would be an easy task.

Nick Fury is now regretting getting involved in magical affairs. He was initially quite interested when Salomon made the offer, thinking he could get a glimpse into the real magical world instead of learning about it through Salomon's words. Now it seems the magical world is far more dangerous than he imagined; a boy (Danny) could get him involved in such a terrible battle.

Before he could even think of a way to speak, a bullet struck the still-burning airbus behind him. Although the sound was drowned out by the thunder, for a seasoned agent, it was enough to raise his alert level to the highest level. Nick Fury immediately dropped to the ground, rolled a few times, and hid behind a tree. He pulled out his pistol and peered into the dark forest with his one eye—he had roughly deduced the shooter's location from the plane's impact point. Now, he only hoped to spot the enemy, because attacks from behind were the hardest to defend against, and he didn't want to be shot in the back.

He glanced at Salomon, who remained standing on the plane. The sorcerer seemed oblivious to the gunshots and the sound of bullets colliding with the aircraft, still gazing up at the sky. Nick Fury didn't intend to remind Salomon; he had seen how ineffective bullets were against sorcerers. If a bullet were to hit Salomon, that would be a useful reminder.

After a while, still no gunshots rang out. In the deep forest, only the burning wing of the plane provided a single source of light, making the arcane mage standing on the aircraft extremely conspicuous. Nick Fury quietly instructed the agents still on the plane to prepare for battle through his earpiece, then crouched down and slowly moved towards the location from which the gunshots had come.

Just as he was about to continue forward, a spear adorned with orange-red sparks flew into the forest ahead of him at a speed almost imperceptible to the naked eye. The faint light that burst forth as the magic spear dissipated allowed Nick Fury to see the enemy's appearance—it was a person, but one of the same people who had appeared in the Romanian monastery earlier, those mercenaries.

"Not bad trick." A pale figure emerged from the dark forest, clapping his hands and casually praising Salomon's magic. If the boy's mother were here, she would surely recognize the drastically changed man before her.

This man is the mercenary who took the boy away, the human who died under the android giant sword, and Nadya's ex-boyfriend, Karigan.

However, he is no longer human.
