Chapter 327 Licking the Dog
Chapter 327 The Simp (Second Update)
At the start of the banquet, Queen Frigga formally introduced Salomon to all the nobles and announced his upcoming studies in Asgard. The Queen symbolically drank a toast to celebrate Thor's victory, then instructed Salomon and Thor to enjoy the feast before departing.
After the Queen left that day, the atmosphere at the banquet immediately became lively. This group of nobles was not entirely the same as the ones at the previous welcoming banquet. Most of these nobles were military nobles, and they also had a certain proportion of divine blood. These Asgardian nobles possessed considerable martial spirit, and their personalities were much more cheerful than the politically-minded Vanir gods. They first offered their glasses to Salomon, and after exchanging a few greetings, they drank themselves without waiting for Salomon to drink.
For example, the "slender" Volstagg, whom Salomon had met before, seemed overjoyed upon seeing Salomon. He was more enthusiastic than the others—shoving a whole, uncut leg of roasted lamb into Salomon's hand, regardless of the wizard's wishes. He pulled Salomon to the table and began boasting to the surrounding nobles about Salomon's feat of confronting the Destroyer armor after Thor arrived on Earth. Of course, in his words, he was the one who played the biggest role, making no mention of how much he had eaten.
However, after this boasting, some nobles suddenly became enthusiastic about Salomon.
Salomon looked again and saw that these people were all wearing armor; they were military nobles, and high-ranking ones at that. The sorcerer immediately understood: these were all members of the First Prince's faction. When Thor was exiled to Earth, these people had a terrible time. At that time, everyone thought Thor would never return, and the forces that sided with Loki subjected them to countless hardships. The sorcerer didn't know if Thor was aware of these people's existence, or if he simply thought these soldiers were his good comrades—their gathering around Thor was also with the tacit approval of the Allfather. If it weren't to help Thor unite the army's strength, Odin wouldn't have so directly thrown him into the army to struggle and fight.
Who knows, the Allfather might already regret it; life in the army has dulled Thor's political acumen. Thor isn't stupid; his royal education was quite good. He's just too lazy to use his brain—problems in the army can be solved with a hammer, so he's used to solving other problems with a hammer as well.
Compared to Salomon, who went to great lengths to avoid excessive drinking, Saul wasn't nearly as enthusiastic about the party. In the past, he would have been the one constantly prolonging the celebrations, because no one could drink or eat as much as him. Now, having moved beyond mere revelry, Saul has shown some maturity in certain areas.
He was no longer irritable, reckless, or willful, no longer venting his anger like a child. Odin was already quite satisfied with this. The Sorcerer Supreme refused to teach him anything more, and the Allfather planned to wait until Thor sat on the throne before personally instructing him on everything else.
The most important thing is about Hela. Once Thor sits on the throne and reveals his power, Odin plans to personally teach Thor how to use it. It is the true power hidden within Asgard, a talent bestowed upon the Aesir royal family by Odin. The closer the relationship with Asgard, the stronger the Aesir becomes; it is the first step to becoming a true god.
One day, the Aesir will raise their divine fire, bid farewell to the curse of Ragnarok, and live on forever until the end of this universe.
The atmosphere at the banquet grew increasingly lively. Several beautiful ladies and young girls sat beside the handsome, blond-haired Fandral, while Volstagg began to drink mead with gusto, drawing cheers from those around him. Even Salomon was surrounded by several unmarried girls, all of whom possessed the tall figures and thick, long hair of Aesir women. These girls, who could wield longswords, were now patiently listening to Salomon recount tales of the magical world.
However, only Salomon found those things interesting; what the girls admired was his powerful strength in directly confronting the Destroyer. The scene was overflowing with nerdishness!
Thor couldn't stand it any longer. He promptly interrupted Salomon's awful conversation, instead mentioning the scene of their sword duel—after their evening sword practice, they both ended up in the infirmary, and unsurprisingly, they were both given a severe scolding by the goddess of medicine, El. Salomon had half his hand slashed open, the wound reaching the bone. Thor's injuries were less severe; he only had some blood on his shoulder and a red mark on his face. While injuries are inevitable in practice, this one was particularly bad (referring to Salomon).
They certainly couldn't attend the banquet in this condition, and the goddess of medicine, El, worked tirelessly to heal them before the banquet began.
The Aesir girls were clearly more interested in this topic. Thor was a warrior among Asgard's younger generation, and since Salomon was on par with Thor, he must also be a warrior. So they clamored to hear the details of the sword duel.
Saul chuckled and patted Salomon on the shoulder before heading to the balcony alone. He didn't dislike the atmosphere, but he wanted some peace and quiet. The lack of news about Jane Foster from Salomon worried him; simply knowing from Heimdall wasn't enough. He had many kingdoms to see. Saul knew he couldn't expect to dedicate too much time to a mortal, even if she was the eldest prince's lover.
"You used to party for weeks on end," Sif said, already waiting on the balcony. She had dressed up specially, changing out of her armor and into a dress, with a tailored fur shawl draped over her shoulders. However, Thor didn't pay much attention to her attire, assuming it was just what she wore to a banquet.
"I still remember when we celebrated the Battle of Harokin, you were so excited you almost wanted to jump right into the next battle," Thor said, bringing Sif to a chuckle. Harokin was an enclave of Asgard beyond the Nine Realms, and the resounding victory ended with the discovery of the Eye of Sorcerer in Odin's treasury. Because Thor and his companions had suppressed the rebellion last time, when the Bifrost broke, that world, out of fear of Asgard, didn't launch any rebellion, saving Thor a considerable amount of effort.
"The first victory was certainly interesting," Sif said with a smile. She glanced at the silent Thor, trying to prolong the conversation. She took Thor's hand. "Have a drink with me. The Allfather certainly won't be giving you any more tasks tonight."
"No, this is my own mission."
"You disappear every night, it's hard not to notice," Sif said understandingly. "There are nine kingdoms in total, and the future King of Asgard can't just focus on one."
"Thank you for your bravery and advice, dear Miss Sif." Thor smiled and turned to leave.
Sif's smile faltered for a few moments before vanishing completely.
"Volstagg!" she shouted, pulling off her fur shawl and turning around. "Get the wine right now!"
