Chapter 369 Salomon's Little Classroom
Chapter 369 Salomon's Little Lesson (Second Update)
Professor Elliott Randolph nearly jumped up, convinced Salomon had seen through his true identity. As a member of the Berserker Legion, he had no access to powers like Asgard, let alone the Aesir royal family—those were entities he, a commoner, had no say in.
Another person who was greatly shocked was Agent Coulson and his team, who were all astonished by Salomon's words. Agent Coulson knew how much Salomon valued his privacy, yet Salomon had now spoken so openly. After his initial surprise, he quickly realized that Salomon wouldn't speak without reason; Salomon must be saying this because he didn't need to hide his relationship with Asgard here.
Agent Coulson glanced quickly at Laura Crawford and Professor Elliot Randolph—who had convinced Salomon that he didn't need to conceal the secrets of magic and Asgard? The reasoning was simple: since Laura Crawford was brought by Salomon, she must know something. But Professor Randolph was a stranger to Salomon; even as an expert on Norse mythology, he wasn't an expert on everything about Asgard, yet Salomon had said those things to him, which meant…
Agent Coulson discreetly noted down the suspicious points.
If Salomon hadn't urged Professor Randolph to continue, he might have remained standing there indefinitely. Even as he resumed his account of the Berserker Legion, his gaze kept drifting towards Salomon's face, like a student terrified of being caught making a mistake on their paper by their tutor. Laura Crawford was also quite puzzled—Professor Elliot Randolph was a close friend of her father, Sir Richard Crawford, yet she had never seen him like this before. After all, Professor Randolph had remained completely composed when he emptied her father's liquor cabinet, showing a panic she hadn't even displayed when drunk.
She was confused by the scene, but the science team members standing behind Agent Coulson, after some whispering, figured out the truth. Although their guesses differed somewhat from the facts, they weren't far off.
"One berserker possesses the strength of twenty warriors." Professor Randolph quickly regained his composure.
"So, the person who wields the cane will possess superhuman strength?" Agent Coulson handed the 3D model to Salomon, hoping the arcane mage could find a way to counter the cane's wielder from the model.
"The warrior wielding the staff will be in a state of uncontrollable rage; the Berserker's Staff possesses an extremely powerful magic."
"Or perhaps it's a scientific characteristic we haven't discovered yet," Simmons preemptively offered his opinion. Of course, such remarks weren't popular in the office, at least not with Salomon—believing in science was good, but blindly believing in it was tantamount to losing the ability to think independently. Magic and science were two parallel lines; it wasn't a matter of which was stronger or weaker, but clinging to science to explain everything was truly foolish.
Salomon then gave Simmons a disdainful look. Agent Coulson turned to Salomon, signaling for an explanation.
"Anger alone cannot explain the changes in human strength. Humans are very fragile creatures. Without the magical enhancement of the Berserker's Staff, the excessive secretion of adrenaline would cause adverse reactions such as palpitations, headaches, paleness, and tremors within minutes. He would be dead cleanly and neatly before you find your target, and there wouldn't even be time to call an ambulance."
Salomon's fingers traced several runes on the cane model, and several specially marked runes on the plastic-printed cane model lit up.
"See that? (urisaz) represents energy, including excessive violence and lust—this is the core functional rune of the Berserker's Staff. (ī(h)waz) represents the yew tree, symbolizing death or rebirth. The yew tree is evergreen and therefore never dies, representing continuity and endurance on a deeper level. It is this rune that gives the staff's wielder a healthy body, preventing them from dying from excessive adrenaline. The final rune (gebō) represents giving a gift, and also represents placing the recipient in an obligation to the giver. The text next to this rune clarifies the Berserker's obligation: to fight to the death for Asgard," Salomon said. "Therefore, we only need to cast the rune (īsaz) to release the staff wielder from their state of rage, because this rune represents the calming of anger."
"You know Rune very well, Mr. Damonette," Professor Randolph changed his form of address. "It seems you really were educated by Frigga. Perhaps you could tell us about the current situation in Asgard."
"I did receive an education from Frigga, but that was before the Dark Elves killed her." After Salomon said this, Professor Elliot Randolph's face turned pale, as if he had been greatly shocked by Frigga's death.
"This is impossible!" he exclaimed. "Isn't Odin in Asgard?"
"No one knew the Dark Elves would launch a surprise attack, sir." Salomon returned the cane model to Fizz. "However, we still managed to kill Malekith, the Dark Elf King, and avenge Queen Frigga. All the Dark Elves were killed, and their heads were taken back to Asgard."
Professor Elliott Randolph's eyes widened, and he stammered, unable to utter a single word. He staggered to the fireplace, picked up the whiskey bottle, unscrewed it, and poured some into every glass except his own. He handed a glass to everyone. "For merciful Frigga," he said with a long sigh, in the heaviest tone, and then, without caring what the others thought, he took a large gulp from the bottle.
"For the sake of merciful Frigga." Salomon also took a sip, following suit.
In his subsequent drunken narration, Professor Elliott Randolph recounted the legend of the berserker's arrival on Earth, including the location where the berserker hid the three sections of his staff—three poems, the first of which was hidden in a Norway spruce, and has since been found.
"Well, thank you for your help, Mr. Salomon Damonette, Professor Elliott Randolph." Coulson downed his drink in one gulp, and even Fitz and Simmons from the science team drank with their eyes closed. "If you don't mind, I'd like to speak with you privately, Salomon," he said. "We need more of your help with this."
------
"What is Professor Elliott Randolph's true identity? You don't need to rush to make excuses. Your timing in coming to Spain is too coincidental. I feel like you want me to know about it." Agent Coulson and Salomon walked down the streets of Spain, the science team lagging behind a few steps. Agent Coulson didn't want them to hear his conversation with Salomon.
"Actually, this matter falls under Kamar-Taj's jurisdiction." Salomon didn't directly answer Agent Coulson's question. "Have you seen 'The Man from Earth'? That movie is based on him. After all, he hasn't caused any trouble. As long as he follows the rules, he can live peacefully on Earth. All he has to do is complete some formalities."
"The berserker in that story was actually him?" Agent Coulson deduced the correct answer immediately. "Elliot Randolph was on Earth in the 12th century?"
"Hmm, but don't even think about using Asgardian genes to modify super soldiers. Elliott Randolph's true identity must be kept hidden."
"I know what to do."
