Chapter 400 The Object of Destiny

Chapter 400 The Object of Destiny (First Update)

Even now, the Allfather is still searching for a way to avoid Ragnarok.

The prophetic foreshadowing of Fimbulb Winter came to pass around 650 BC. That long, cold winter ended many lives on earth. The long, dark winter, known as the Winter of the Wind, the Winter of the Sword, and the Winter of the Wolf, caused the stars to lose their heat. The cold winds that swept across the world destroyed all social systems. Violence and chaos spread across the land, and death was the only faith at that time.

The prophecy has come true; the great net woven by the sisters who control destiny is gradually enveloping Asgard. Three is a mysterious number: destiny is three, vengeance is three, magic is three. The Norn Three Goddesses not only hold a revered position in Asgard, but even the kings of the Olympian pantheon cannot defy the destiny woven by these three noble ladies: Ould, Verdandi, and Skadi; Atropos, Lachesis, and Clotho.

It was at that time that the increasingly powerful goddess of death, Hela, was thrown into Helheim by the terrified Odin.

Odin wanted to use the "Droppers" as leverage to recruit Salomon. He clearly saw Salomon's true nature and knew that the devastation of Asgard after Ragnarok would inevitably affect Earth. Earth needed an ally from the Prime Material Plane, and Asgard was indispensable.

The Father of the Gods was a king who was willing to do anything for his country, including using artifacts and his daughter to recruit Salomon, who had not yet taken the stage.

Salomon made up his mind to refuse the title of "Drooler" and Asgard without thinking for more than a few seconds, but in order to save face for the Allfather, he pretended to struggle for a while before humbly and tactfully declining Odin's offer.

He wasn't that foolish. If he agreed to Odin's conditions, it would mean he would have to risk his life for Asgard. Originally, Kamar-Taj's aid to Thor was only to ensure his survival. Odin was clearly dissatisfied with the level of support set by the Sorcerer Supreme, and recruiting the Sorcerer Supreme's disciple to fight for Asgard could indirectly increase Kamar-Taj's support for Thor.

More importantly, Odin wanted to ensure the continuation of the Asgardian royal family. Thor's failure didn't matter; kings always have backup plans. In the new world after Ragnarok, if Hela and Salomon had a child, that child with immense potential would undoubtedly bear the title of Asgardian royalty.

What he couldn't do, this offspring will accomplish, and Asgard will eventually unify the Nine Realms without bloodshed.

Salomon only considered the first level and not the second, but his previous thoughts and the existence of the witch were enough for him to reject Odin.

The face of the Father of the Gods was instantly covered with frost, his single gray eye fixed on Salomon. He tossed a parchment covered in writing to the wizard, then rose from the tree stump, leaning on his cane and leading the giant wolf away without looking back, staggering towards the distant snow-capped mountains.

"That's just how he is; he gets angry when things don't go his way." Queen Frigga gently stroked Salomon's long hair, increasingly pleased with him. She added, "If you don't mind, you can stay for lunch. That old man's off to the mountains again anyway."

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I have other matters to attend to," Salomon said goodbye to the Queen. The Queen believed that Salomon had not yet adapted to the time concept of the immortals; he was still too young. Youth also meant recklessness and impulsiveness, so Frigga understandingly agreed with the young man's actions.

Having received the Allfather's command, Salomon returned to the New York Sanctum in Kamar-Taj as quickly as possible. He would use the portal there to travel to Swartheim, the legendary Nidavellir, Asgard's armory, a land inhabited by dwarves and gnomes. Not only were the finest armor and weapons forged there, but Asgard's world-renowned art also originated from that world.

Salomon had to negotiate with Nidavellir; those stubborn guys wouldn't agree to forge armor for him just because of an order, especially since the armor he wanted to make wasn't that simple.

"What did you say?" Salomon could hardly believe his ears. The temple deacon, Master Daniel, had told him unbelievable news after he entered. Master Daniel sat in the guardian's seat, yawning, and tossed the two-headed serpent that liked to talk back into the potted plant in the New York Temple.

"It was just a dimensional crossing, nothing more. Asgard sent an official document asking us to keep an eye out for fugitives." The mage Daniel looked listless, seemingly still recovering from the recent celestial conjunction. This was understandable; after all, the mage was quite old, and few of the new generation of arcane mages in Kamar-Taj were truly outstanding. Furthermore, the mage was alone and couldn't enjoy a peaceful retirement like the elders of other arcane families. Therefore, he still had to preside over the New York Temple.

He didn't think much of this unexpected situation. If Salomon hadn't made such a significant contribution to Kamar-Taj, he wouldn't have told Salomon about it. The mage Daniel ran a hand through his dwindling white hair, looking exhausted, and said, "Don't worry, the smuggling from the Prime Material Plane will be detected by the planetary defense system. According to Asgard's report, the fugitive is a witch. We just need to be extra careful."

"Are you serious, old man?"

"Tsk, young people always make a fuss over nothing."

Salomon wished he could climb the stairs and pluck off the old man's few remaining whiskers. But instead, the mage Daniel pulled an invitation and a round little black cat from his robe pocket. The little black cat, which had been dozing in Daniel's pocket, instantly woke up and meowed at Salomon in a sweet, childish voice.

"Someone threw this in the mailbox with your name on it." The old man handed Salomon the little black kitten and the dark black invitation without even looking at it. "Someone might have invited you to a banquet. Don't worry, no one is watching here, and there's no magic on the invitation. However, your frequent entry and exit from the temple through the main gate has attracted some attention; otherwise, they wouldn't have put this invitation and the cat in the mailbox."

Salomon opened the invitation, but the seemingly ordinary glossy paper invitation then revealed its true nature—it wasn't made of paper at all; it was a high-tech creation.

The invitation projected a deep blue holographic image, displaying a somewhat familiar logo. Immediately following was another projection; the person on the projection invited Salomon to a ball because they had an important item to return to its rightful owner, Salomon.

"Who invited you?" Master Daniel asked, his eyes wide with curiosity. This old fellow was always incredibly energetic whenever something unrelated to work came up; even the Sorcerer Supreme didn't know what to say about him. Salomon glared at him fiercely as well, then continued reading.

After the projection ended, Salomon blinked. He glanced at the cat curled up in his palm, then at the contents of the invitation, and deduced who might have sent it. The little black cat licked Salomon's palm, then rolled around in his hand, letting out a contented purr.

The little black cat seemed to trust Salomon a lot; it curled itself up into a round, fluffy ball and then fell asleep again.

"I suspect it might be Bastet; someone has received a divine message." Salomon closed the invitation and then showed the little kitten sleeping in his palm to the mage Daniel. Although the kitten was small, the purring it made was completely disproportionate to its size, and the purring even attracted the curious gaze of the flying cloak in the glass case.

"This matter involves the Egyptian gods, and I need to discuss it with His Holiness."
