Chapter 426 Genetic Material

Chapter 426 Genetic Material (First Update)

"You really don't want to study?" Salomon, who had just returned to the Immortal City from Bodleian, frowned as he looked at Lorelei slumped in her chair. He waved to the camera placed beside him, signaling to Diana, who was in New York, to hand over the task. Salomon didn't force Lorelei to pick up a book now; being forced to study was indeed very painful, but what was even more painful was studying things that had no use.

Therefore, he planned to explain his intentions to Lorelei. Of course, he wouldn't mention his ultimate goal at all, otherwise this vixen would have something to hold against him.

"Do you know why you always fail?" He picked Lorelei up from the chair and placed her on his lap. His question slightly caught Lorelei's attention—she had changed into the clothes Salomon had prepared for her, and she didn't resist the overly revealing attire at all. On the contrary, she thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of Salomon touching her skin, which made her feel that she was one step closer to achieving her goal, at least it was much better than being locked in those metal torture devices.

She spends half the day locked up and subjected to extremely humiliating tortures, which she sees as a game between Salomon and herself, where Salomon will become her prey if he loses.

What Lorelei didn't know was that these were all illusions left to her by Salomon.

"Why?" She pouted, looking dissatisfied. "Is there anything wrong with wanting to enjoy a luxurious life?"

"Of course not, it's just that you always target unreliable people." Salomon pointed to the books, then to Lorelei's head. "One's brainless, the other's grumpy. The Allfather is really unlucky to have those two troublesome sons. Asgard will be doomed sooner or later in their hands. These books I'm giving you tell you how to maintain a luxurious life. Although it takes time and effort, ruling a country is never an easy task."

Lorelei glared at Salomon, then returned to her listless expression. She seemed not to have listened to Salomon, instead playing with her long, orange-red hair.

"You can live a life of luxury if you want, since you don't care how you get it, do you?" Salomon continued, "But my queen must be learned, and you're not exactly clever right now. At least compared to your sister, your intelligence is insufficient."

"Then go find her!" Lorelei reacted extremely strongly at the mention of Amora, thrashing about like a fish in Salomon's arms. She had been imprisoned in the dungeons of Asgard for hundreds of years, and her sister hadn't offered her any help whatsoever; the two sisters' relationship was hardly good.

"That's why your sister wasn't arrested, but you ended up in Sif's hands," Salomon said patiently. "You're not smart enough, Lorelei, so you need to learn. If you don't want to learn, you'll stay in this basement."

"Then I won't be queen anymore, let me go. Where I go is none of your business, as I won't be caught by the Asgardians."

"Oh, really? You are a spoil of war that I snatched from the Father of the Gods, and I have the right to dispose of spoils. Learning this knowledge is the only place where you can prove your value in my hands; if you have no value, then all you will have is death."

Lorelei turned her head and saw Salomon's serious expression. Her newly mustered courage vanished instantly. "Fine, I'll study," she said dejectedly. "Damn it, even my sister didn't study these things. What are you going to do now? I thought you'd stay here with me."

"Do you think I'm as carefree as you?" Salomon opened the door and left without looking back. Before leaving, he cast a spell on the door—this room, converted from a vault, had a heavy metal combination lock door with security measures even higher than a bank's. Lorelei's abilities were absolutely insufficient to open it, especially since Salomon had added multiple arcane locks to the door, leaving Lorelei with no hope of escape.

Salomon's hasty return from Bodley had nothing to do with Lorelei; it was entirely because Maya Hansen informed him that she had successfully modified the Extremis virus using alchemy, and as the lab director, she had to inform the real boss.

"The DNA of the Knights of the Round Table has been stitched into the Extremis virus." Maya Hansen, with her messy hair, wore a smug expression as she mentioned her research findings. Behind her were several glass coffins that were extremely hot, containing several skeletons with some decaying flesh on them.

This was an experiment that Princess Shuri of Wakanda could not accept, and only Maya Hansen personally carried out the process. The rotting flesh on the remains of these Knights of the Round Table was created by Salomon using dark magic. Although the decay was not too severe, the negative energy contained in every strand of flesh would kill the fragile virus when it transcribed its genetic material. However, if the positive energy potion given by Salomon was used to neutralize it, the rotting flesh would turn into a stinking sludge, making it impossible to extract any useful genetic material.

This was the challenge Maya Hansen had to overcome recently, and it seems she succeeded.

"I placed the ether particles on the alchemical symbols according to your instructions. The Sora Redlin Druids were a great help; they helped adjust the alchemical symbols and patiently revised them many times." Maya Hansen was still immersed in excitement, while the high priestess of the Sora Redlin Druids, the blonde girl with glasses, lowered her head shyly.

Maya Hansen’s testing platform looked like a combination of advanced science and ignorant superstition, but it was in such a place that she achieved technological breakthroughs.

"Although it didn't last long, it was enough for the Extremis virus to transcribe the DNA of the Knights of the Round Table."

"Very good, then the first phase of the experiment is about to begin. Are you mentally prepared?" Salomon bent down, examining the Extremis viruses placed in the refrigerator. These Extremis viruses had already transcribed the effective genetic material fragments of the Knights of the Round Table. Even in the low-temperature environment, the Extremis viruses still emitted an orange-red glow. "I don't want the test subjects to explode. The Extremis viruses are just a gene editing tool."

"I know." Maya Hansen wasn't discouraged by this; on the contrary, she was more concerned about the experiment. "Could it be that using the DNA of the Knights of the Round Table can create super soldiers? I haven't found anything extraordinary about the DNA of the Knights of the Round Table."

"Of course not." Salomon shook his head. "You still have one last step to take."

"What?"

"Using my DNA and that of the Asgardians as a base, we'll cut out the DNA of the Knights of the Round Table. Only then will the test subjects unleash superhuman strength. Not just the Knights of the Round Table, but the DNA of many famous figures throughout history will be cut out. You'll need to properly label them and conduct epigenetic research. I'll provide you with some genetic material; we'll need to adjust each base pair, and once it's confirmed to be usable, we'll begin the experiments."

Although Maya Hansen already knew Salomon's ideas crossed ethical boundaries, she was still taken aback by his proposal. "You should know that once the Extremis virus cuts a fragment of your DNA into a test subject, that subject will be considered your blood relative," she said. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Of course." Salomon turned his head and stared into Maya Hansen's eyes. "You must remember, Maya, no matter what you think, test subjects are just tools. Only successful test subjects have value."

"So what are you going to do now?"

"Go find you experimental subjects and fragments of genetic material." Salomon waved his hand and disappeared into the portal.

"You mean, you're going to dig up graves?" Maya Hansen glanced at the neatly arranged test tubes, which already contained the DNA of several Knights of the Round Table. She didn't know which ancient heroes Salomon was going to find, but she still had a bad feeling.

This experiment may be even more cruel than she imagines.
