Chapter 487 Small Gifts
Chapter 487 A Small Gift (Second Update)
Two men, reeking of alcohol, strolled through the streets of Oslo. Salomon's height and attire made him look menacing. He had already donned his heavy wool coat again, concealing the weapon at his waist to avoid arrest by the local police. He had heard that the Oslo police had a renowned Detective Harry who had solved many mysterious murder cases, but this incident might leave that detective empty-handed. Salomon was certain they would encounter violent resistance, and in a fight, there was no holding back; who knew how inflated those fools' confidence would become?
Or rather, they want to deal with the "lucky ones" first to prevent more tragedies from happening.
Both Salomon and Kasirius were perfectly sober; the amount of alcohol they consumed was not enough to intoxicate the sorcerer.
"I remember you were busy with your studies, how did you end up taking on this mission?" Cassirios asked.
"That's because I just finished some assignments." Salomon didn't specify whether it was assignments from Oxford or work at the Immortal City, but either way, he had a reason and an excuse to relax. Not to mention, he hadn't dared to see his secretary lately, a consequence of that direct confrontation, and he wanted to delay as much as possible to let Stephanie calm down.
Moreover, his work in the Immortal City has temporarily come to an end. With the help of advanced atomic energy science, the super-heavy nuclear-powered tank he and Wakanda jointly developed has been tested in simulators, its safety has been guaranteed, and it is now ready for production. As one of the Sisterhood's main vehicles and armaments in the future, all androids and new cadets have begun learning how to drive the super-heavy nuclear-powered tank and conducting combined arms tactical drills.
Mechanized forces are Salomon's primary target; melee combat using powered armor will only occur in the final stages of the battle.
The Maximoff siblings were currently on a shopping spree in the streets of London, and Salomon had given them a credit card. Both had done well on their exams, especially Pietro, who surprised Salomon; his learning speed far surpassed that of his sister. As for Wanda, Salomon remained perpetually suspicious of her, because he could never truly know whether she succumbed to her instincts.
Perhaps that day will eventually come, and the breaking of Sithon's seal will be a catastrophe for the entire universe. But not now, it cannot be now. He doesn't have enough soldiers, he doesn't have enough tanks and warships, and Salomon is not ready yet.
They were allowed to take their purchases back to the castle, but how to hide them was another test Salomon had in store for Wanda. The Maximoff siblings were completely unaware of the trap Salomon had set. Once Wanda received a ruby wand from Salomon, she became completely engrossed. The magic stored in that wand could temporarily compensate for Wanda's lack of other elemental spells, since Wanda, as a mind manipulator, was far less agile than a sorcerer.
What Pietro received was a dagger and a set of high school physics problems that were over 800 pages long. This wasn't Salomon showing favoritism; these were exam questions he had personally compiled from his own high school problems. If Pietro finished that set of problems, getting into a good university shouldn't be a problem.
He promised that every gift he gave would be a surprise.
This mission wasn't too troublesome; it was simply to retrieve a golden arrow from Athena's brother, Apollo, who was like a two-way plug. Athena didn't particularly like her brother, who, like their father, was always sowing seeds, buzzing around, and constantly shining. The wise goddess of war had complained about Apollo to Salomon more than once.
Hyacinthus, son of the King of Sparta; Cassandra, the third daughter of King Priam of Troy and Queen Hecarpe; Creusa, daughter of King Erechtheus of Athens and Plasitya; Psamate, daughter of King Codeps of Argos; Claucia, the nymph of the mountains; Akakalis, the nymph of the nymphs; and Meliè, the nymph of the mountains and waters. This is only what mortals know; many more remain unrecorded, for Apollo did not sing to the other Olympian gods every time he began a new romance, thus informing them of his new prey.
In matters of promiscuity, Apollo was not much less skilled than his father Zeus, and perhaps even surpassed him, as Apollo was a classic example of a two-way connector (in fact, many Olympian gods were two-way connectors), hence the name hyacinth. Of course, Salomon believed this wasn't creationism, but rather divine power influencing species and causing genetic mutations, perfectly consistent with modern biology.
Very scientific, all very scientific.
"He's accomplished nothing but music; he's just a simple-minded fool who lets himself go and lives according to his nature!" Athena spat. At the time, Salomon had only recently met Athena and didn't dare offer his opinion on the evaluations of the Olympian gods. Furthermore, considering Gaia, the Earth Mother, and the kinship between the Greek pantheon and Kamar-Taj, he couldn't say anything too harsh. In truth, Athena and Salomon were actually on the same lineage, their kinship incredibly strong.
"What lesson does this story teach us, Salomon?"
"Don't be a fool who plays the piano," he replied naively. "And also, don't like men."
A single golden arrow from Apollo isn't particularly troublesome, but no one knows exactly how many arrows Apollo used. He fired hundreds during his battle with the serpent serpent Pierce, so this task might be repeated several times until all of Apollo's legacy on Earth is cleared away. Over the past few millennia, Kamar-Taj has recovered four large caskets of golden arrows, which are now displayed in the museum at the Temple House in London, belonging to the less desirable part of the collection.
Almost every sorcerer can claim to have participated in the great task of retrieving Apollo's arrows, because there were simply too many arrows for the wealthy and powerful Olympian prince to bother with. Apollo single-handedly increased the workload of all sorcerers in Kamar-Taj since its inception; even His Holiness undertook several such missions in his time.
From now on, everyone in Kamar-Taj agrees that if they see Apollo, they should just kill him.
This little task only requires knocking out a few fools who accidentally obtained arrows and then wanted to rule. If they encounter strong resistance, Salomon will retaliate with magic and weapons, and the scene will become bloody and difficult to manage (or he will need to call the fire department in advance). But in order to give Kasirius the opportunity to exercise and get rid of his middle-aged belly, Salomon generously gave him this opportunity.
"You just want to slack off." Cassirios rolled his eyes and cast a spell, rushing into a hotel room near Shipping Street. This place was a gathering place for drug dealers, prostitutes, and their clients. After the local police drove them out of Brada Square, it became their new hideout. In addition, the stock exchange and the Norwegian bank were also places where these people frequented. Salomon was able to pinpoint the location of the person holding the golden arrow so accurately thanks to artificial intelligence.
Just recently, he had dispatched the Sorority on a mission that wasn't too difficult for them. The mission involved another artificial intelligence, and Salomon hadn't yet figured out how to handle it.
