Chapter 507 Recruiting Special Agents
Chapter 507 Recruiting Special Agents (Second Update)
Changing masters is no easy task for sorcerers. If the master isn't of the same type, the sorcerer might not be able to use the unique spells they learned before. For example, a Vishanti arcane mage who joins Dormammu's faction has to learn almost all spells from scratch. However, Dormammu is always generous to those who defect from Kamar-Taj, so leveling up isn't too slow.
Wanda Maximoff was a natural-born sorcerer, and Salomon's goal was to force her to draw energy from other dimensions, such as Faltin, Faldor, Vatum, and the Temple of Terror, in an attempt to evade Sithon. He even left her a spell to learn. He wanted to know if Wanda Maximoff was trapped by Sithon in N'Garai of the K'lay dimension and could only obtain power from Sithon.
If not, then other outer dimensions are the objects of borrowing. Hanging oneself on one tree results in being controlled by others, so sorcerers will try every means to find loopholes in their contracts with sovereigns and collude with other sovereigns. This is also a style of operation inherited from the Sorcerer Supreme; otherwise, there would be no need for so many spellbooks in the library of Kamar-Taj—one book, the Book of Vishanti, would suffice.
The behavior has symbolic meaning, which is the basis of ritual magic, a theory that extends from idol theory.
If Wanda and Salomon's experiment succeeds, it means Wanda still has options and can fundamentally alleviate her problem—that she inadvertently incurred a debt with Sithon and became a vessel for his incarnation. At the same time, Salomon must try to prevent her from coming into contact with the Dark Book or the scattered Dark Scrolls, as reading those dark magic books written by Sithon himself and bound by Morgan le Fay means Sithon could seize the reader's soul.
If a spellcaster of the Sorcerer Supreme, Merlin, or Morgan le Fay were to read the Dark Tome, there would be virtually no problem. The Dark Tome's corrupting influence on Wanda is far more severe than that of ordinary people, and Sithon would certainly try to deliver it to her—there are certainly people in the wizarding world who possess the Dark Tome or its scattered scrolls, but no one knows who they are; artifacts of that caliber cannot predict the future. The last vague clue was detected using the Agamotto crystal ball, located in Salem. But that place is shrouded in mystery, and the forces involved are too obscure; Salomon's experience there was far from pleasant.
It's certain that those spellcasters who possess the Dark Book have become pawns of Sithon and will try every means to deliver the book to Wanda. This is also why Salomon has been reluctant to let her come into contact with the wizarding world on Earth. Even the No Door is a mixed bag, even more so than the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter. Nobody knows which corner might be hiding the Dark Lord.
Wanda nodded, agreeing to conduct the experiment that evening. Her obedience to Salomon wasn't solely due to Salomon's tall and charming appearance, but also because Salomon had diligently mentored the Maximov siblings and skillfully cultivated a close relationship with them. This genuine and unpretentious concern earned Wanda an unprecedented level of trust. However, this trust was one-sided, and Salomon's concern wasn't what Wanda had imagined.
If things get out of control, Salomon won't hesitate to kill Wanda. He'll be sad, but he'll still do it.
Salomon has mental health issues; if it weren't for the demands of his social life, he would definitely have gone to a mental hospital to get a certificate.
He didn't linger there, but went directly to a cell in the Immortal City. It was less of a prison cell and more of a bedroom decorated in a Renaissance style, complete with windows and a fireplace. Its security level wasn't as high as the dungeons Salomon used to imprison threats and Lorelei, except that the person inside wasn't yet free to move around. His reason for coming here was to have an open and honest conversation with the person imprisoned there.
After a period of recuperation, Agent Victoria Hand's eyes had regained their sharpness; the stench of death and her pale, shrunken skin were gone, though her hair remained disheveled, for there was no comb in the room. She sat in a high-backed chair behind the bedroom desk, wearing a hospital gown Salomon had provided. "I remember you recruited me many years ago," she glared at the sorcerer. "Did you foresee all of this?"
“Yes, madam.” Salomon pulled up a chair and sat down opposite Agent Victoria Hand. He glanced at an open book on the table, clearly from the bookshelf behind Agent Hand. Every book here was censored, revealing no unnecessary information. “I know Hydra is in S.H.I.E.L.D., and I know who the leader is.” He crossed one leg, his low-heeled boot lightly kicking the walnut-framed table leg. “So I became Hydra first, helping them find a new master.”
"Hmph, magic!"
"Aren't you satisfied with that magic show?" the sorcerer said in a deep voice. "My magic is mostly used for combat; I use very little for performance. Kamar-Taj is a pragmatic school of magic; illusion and polymorph have never been its strengths."
“You know that’s not what I’m talking about,” Agent Victoria Hand said. “I know you saved my life.”
"It's not about saving, it's about giving. You were dead, Agent Hand, and I gave you life again. I knew you were going to die, which is why the Sorority appeared at that time," the sorceress said. "Since S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't save you anyway, and Hydra's power is far greater than Nick Fury knew, why not use that power to do something right?"
"Why me, Salomon?"
"Because you're ruthless enough, you know the mission comes first, you're the epitome of a special agent," the arcane mage said. "I've heard you sent two members of Coulson's team on a mission without backup. I admire your methods and your assessment of losses. You have a cool head... and you do now, we've removed the bullets."
"You want to fill the void left by the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"My God, Agent Hand. I'm not building a fringe organization like S.H.I.E.L.D., or a Congressional black ops squad. S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't facing a true apocalyptic crisis, just minor skirmishes. What we're facing is a thousand times more dangerous than anything S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever encountered. I assure you, this organization isn't built to satisfy my personal desires, but to save human civilization and ensure a prosperous future where humanity rules the entire galaxy. I need you, Victoria Hand. I need your ruthlessness and decisiveness. I need your help. We will help humanity face this terrifying future."
"What exactly did you see, Salomon Damonette!" Agent Hand stared fearlessly into the sorcerer's eyes, which were like black gemstones. "What threat could be so overwhelming that even your magic couldn't handle it, and that you needed to steal those three sky carriers?"
"Skycarriers are just a few small boats; we'll have much more powerful warships. Our future battlefields aren't on Earth, but in the galaxy. As for the threats you mentioned… there are many. There are the Kree, the Skrulls, the alien hive [Note 1], the Celestials from the Prime Material Plane, their creations, the cosmic plague creatures capable of killing the Celestials [Note 2], and demons from outer dimensions. If you want to hear more, I could go on and on, because all of the ones I just mentioned have invaded Earth." Salomon said earnestly, "Agent Hand, we have no choice. S.H.I.E.L.D. is just a small fry on this planet; Kamar-Taj carries a far heavier burden than you can imagine. In this dark universe, only war can ensure survival."
[Note 1] This race is also the reason why the Brotherhood of the Shield was founded.
[Note 2] Symbiosis.
