Chapter 510 Fixation Behavior

Chapter 510 Fixed Behavior (First Update)

Based on the knowledge imparted by His Holiness, Salomon learned the biggest difference between the Aesir and other pantheons.

Other pantheons were born from souls, initially existing as spirits, and were then worshipped as gods because of their powers. Only the Aesir pantheon was born from the flesh and filth of a great demon, possessing a physical form from birth, and later becoming gods through the gathering of faith. Athena represents the power of truth, and Salomon, who has repeatedly faced the truth and is not as unlucky as Theresias, naturally sensed that something was amiss.

Bayonetta held a half-full glass of red wine, a dim magical light flickering in her eyes, the occasional glint of her vertical pupils suggesting she was seeing the world from a different perspective. Joan of Arc wore a mocking smile, and even her foster mother seemed to be enjoying the spectacle. Salomon could only smile helplessly, then kissed the witch again with deep affection.

The witch's lips were burning hot, like a smoldering fire. Bayonetta felt Salomon's touch send shivers down her spine like lightning, and the two, finally separated, seemed to see only each other. They forgot about the noblewomen invited by Athena, their minds solely focused on satisfying their partner—these noblewomen, with their seemingly natural-looking breast implants, their conversations invariably revolving around clothing, cosmetic surgery, and shopping. They needed these things to rein in their wealthy husbands; it was their sole purpose. Athena invited these noblewomen partly for her amusement, to enjoy the roars of these spiritually impoverished domestic beasts—most of the noblewomen gathered here had lovers other than their husbands, and their husbands also had their own mistresses. Even if this relationship was known to both parties, the husbands wouldn't choose divorce, because that would mean losing half their assets. Therefore, when they saw Salomon and Bayonetta, they could only sigh, reminiscing about the innocent love they had once experienced in their youth.

"Oh! So sweet!"

Salomon saw his own reflection in Bayonetta's moist, clear gray irises, and Bayonetta, in turn, found herself reflected in Salomon's obsidian-like eyes. She felt the static electricity in Salomon's fingertips as he stroked her neck, making it hard to breathe and her skin tense. Although they had just experienced a mutually satisfying act of love a few hours earlier, they felt no satisfaction whatsoever. From a Freudian perspective, their relationship had become fixated on excessive satisfaction; the prolonged over-gratification made them both crave to take more from each other.

Bayonetta chuckled and pinched Salomon's cheek. "You have to love me. You have no choice."

"I swear to my true name."

"Damn, that's the sweetest love confession I've ever heard." Vanessa took a sip of red wine. These were the sweetest promises any career-minded man could make. A promise not to drink excessively, a promise not to smoke, a promise to come home early and kiss his wife. Athena had witnessed firsthand the witch's allure to Salomon, but only Joan of Arc's eyes remained like an iceberg, attempting to extinguish the flames of desire between the sorcerer and the witch.

Stephanie opened the car refrigerator and poured Salomon a glass of chilled champagne.

The reason she was in such a hurry to see Salomon was because a majority of seats in Congress had secretly reached an agreement to pass a secret bill to deal with the mess at S.H.I.E.L.D. However, some content and details could still be modified before the vote, and she needed Salomon's presence to help her weigh the options—this was just an excuse; Stephanie simply wanted to give Salomon more exposure in front of members of both parties. For this purpose, she had specially prepared a well-tailored dark blue striped suit; Salomon's usual suits were too British and not suitable for that occasion.

“You’re so captivating, my lady,” Stephanie said, her eyes sparkling as if she were on a hallucinogen. Salomon, who hadn’t been away from Bayonetta long, was radiating an astonishing charm. It was all hormones at work, Stephanie thought. “You can definitely persuade the council members to change some details,” she said urgently. “That’s crucial for us. Our action teams will gain legal status, and those Hydra agents who defected to us will be exonerated. We can control their lives…”

"Stephanie, you could have done all that yourself," Salomon revealed. He quickly changed the subject, reassuring his somewhat flustered subordinate. "It's alright, at least you got me out of that boring chatter of the ladies. I'm more than grateful," he said with a smile. "Thank you, Stephanie. And your champagne, though I'd rather have some water now; I've had a bit too much."

"Has anyone told you you're charming, my lord?" Stephanie said with a laugh. "Water, not Wooa, note the 't' pronunciation. You need to watch your accent, or people will immediately know you're from London."

Stephanie's predictions weren't too far off; there were indeed some details in the secret act that could be adjusted. In the following weeks, the special operations team gained official status to hunt down Hydra, allowing them to begin formal operations.

"This is the first mission, and you actually refused to let the special forces team complete it independently? I was ready to move in the moment I received news that Cold Storage Prison had been breached by Hydra! You promised me that I could control the superhumans!" Agent Victoria Hand seemed to have heard something incredible, and she launched an attack on Salomon, who was standing on the other side of the table. "I know Cold Storage Prison has long been under Hydra's control, but Daniel, who escaped, is crucial." Agent Hand's eyes flashed with hatred, but she suppressed her anger. "Daniel is infatuated with Audrey Nathan, Coulson's ex-girlfriend… Coulson will definitely show up, and I need to remind him that Grant Ward is a Hydra agent!"

“Agent Hand, you are now a member of the Immortal City.” Salomon pointed to her brooch. At her protest, Salomon removed the steel glove that served as a pun on the badge, replacing it with wings on the skull to ensure stylistic consistency. “I had the Sorority involved for no other reason than that this Daniel is special. Also, I’m glad you haven’t lost control because you’re about to face your killer.”

"Marcus Daniels' relationship with Agent Coulson... I'm just not..."

"That's not what I meant. This Daniel's mind is connected to the inner shadow plane, which is why he has the ability to absorb light. Remember the Celestial experiments I mentioned, and the biosphere being contaminated by the cosmic plague? The Celestials' energy was distributed to every corner of the Earth, which is why superhumans exist in human society, and Daniel is one of the lucky ones. It's just that he was probably driven mad by the whispers of the shadow creatures, which is why he exhibits that psychopathic behavior," Salomon said. "S.H.I.E.L.D. should be thankful that Daniel isn't connected to another inner plane, otherwise Marcus Daniel wouldn't be someone that could be kept in Cold Storage Prison."
