Chapter 520 Sense of Humor
Chapter 520 Sense of Humor (First Update)
A greedy beast lurked in the shadows, like a vulture following a lion. Agent Maria Hill felt a chill run down her spine at Salomon's display. She wondered why she and Nick Fury had only just realized Salomon's ambition. Had they been deceived by his striking good looks, or distracted by his witty demeanor? He was so charismatic that they couldn't see his fangs, or notice the sizzling venom dripping onto the ground.
"He'll devour everyone, and we'll have a hard time stopping him," Agent Hill thought. Unlike the other members of the Avengers, Salomon is a behemoth beyond control, impossible to sway with money or honor. His motives are too noble for ordinary people to comprehend. Like Nick Fury, they both have their own ideals, and they're willing to do anything for those glorious ideals.
No wonder Nick Fury said Salomon was just like him.
She knew many of Nick Fury's secrets, but she wasn't sure if they could stop Salomon's ambitions. Even if S.H.I.E.L.D. were reborn under a different name, it might not be able to withstand his onslaught. The current cooperation was merely for greater gains, she understood this perfectly well, but there was nothing she could do. With the help of Agent Romanoff, Agent Hill investigated some secret projects in Stark's database, including some special female power armors—before the Hydra rebellion, she hadn't understood the purpose of Stark's female power armors. Now she knew that those girls, exuding decisiveness and efficiency, were the users of the power armors; they were Salomon's army, the Hormonculus he had created.
S.H.I.E.L.D. should have considered the possibility of mass-producing androids long before the first one appeared. There is probably no army in the world more terrifying than androids equipped with both advanced technology and mystical magic. She now knows the cause and effect of the missing nuclear missile; Salomon nonchalantly told her the truth, why only Colonel Rhodes survived at that base, and she also witnessed Salomon's cruelty.
But S.H.I.E.L.D. discovered it too late, and now Agent Hill has decided to keep these potentially far-reaching secrets hidden.
She didn't want to provoke an enemy between the Avengers and Salomon because she knew that there weren't many in the current Avengers who could defeat him.
It has been proven that Salomon had been preparing for this plan for many years, starting from his first conflict with S.H.I.E.L.D. Everything was done in such secrecy that even though Salomon had revealed some flaws, Agent Hill was unable to uncover Salomon's financial network after starting the investigation. It was as if his money appeared out of thin air, and his bank accounts seemed to be under a spell. All the common sense in the world did not apply to Salomon Damonette.
"Besides cooperating on the hunt for Hydra, I also need to speak with Nick Fury," Salomon said before leaving. "I know you can contact Nick Fury; he's definitely alive and well. I need to meet with him to make reasonable plans for the future of humanity. You know, I admire him; truly, we're the same kind of people."
"What do you want to do?"
"Let me put it this way, I want to see the little green, shape-shifting aliens he's growing on his disgusting alien farm, and then water those poor alien lads." Salomon's lips curled into a smirk, as if he were telling a joke. However, few could appreciate this kind of humor; the androids, as always, lacked a sense of humor, and Salomon was certain their alchemy engines didn't have it. Agent Hill didn't find it particularly funny. "This has dragged on for years; it's time to settle this. Fury must agree that those aliens are untrustworthy—a fact your shortsightedness cannot see. I'm tired of Nick Fury's arrogant crowing like a rooster. Only when he comes to me, with a warm fireplace and sweet tea, can this possibly be resolved peacefully."
Salomon looked at Agent Hill, whose expression was extremely unnatural. "By the way, I've done some pretty thorough research on slaughter. I think the screams of those green-skinned, pointy-eared rats would be quite enjoyable." He raised an eyebrow, spitting out a string of cruel words. "Just imagine, a bunch of screaming green rats being trampled into mincemeat. Nick Fury has to be held responsible for those rotting, stinking guavas infiltrating human society, and also for contaminating the human gene pool, but that's too disgusting. So tell him to contact me as soon as possible, or it won't just be one Myrtle crying in the bathroom."
He didn't expect Agent Hill to understand this corny joke that combined Harry Potter and botanical terms.
"Girls, Daddy has parked the transport ship on the helipad. Remember to come home early." Salomon waved and walked into the portal. No one knew where he was going.
------------
A raging, chaotic hurricane pounded against the windows of the makeshift base. Had it not been for Wakanda's superior materials science, this prefabricated building would likely have been torn apart by the pressure difference and the fierce winds, then swept into the sky. High-strength alloys supported this relatively rudimentary workstation, and the heating system continued to function normally, preventing the people inside from freezing to the bone.
Fortunately, communications were not interrupted, and the sudden drop in temperature and abnormal weather did not affect the work of the Wakanda Antarctic expedition team.
While receiving terrain data from the spacecraft, Su Rui was making calculations on the map, trying to narrow down the area of the meteorite's landing site. On the other screen was a weather map taken by satellite, showing that the storm was slowly moving towards the temporary base, and the spacecraft was hovering around the storm. From the photos, the rapidly surging clouds looked like white cloud giants waving their arms, whipping up gales that smashed obstacles in their path.
Time was running out; they had to leave before the storm truly arrived, but the workload was so immense, almost impossible. Salomon instructed her to define the search area within a two-mile radius. While she didn't understand the purpose, her limited experience told her that Salomon's requests were quite reasonable and necessary—Suri had tentatively delineated several areas based on the available data; she wasn't sure if they were accurate, but...
But she really couldn't understand what the purpose of the large wooden staff Salomon was holding. The staff, inlaid with a piece of transparent crystal, looked very rough, like a hastily crafted work of art. But her spectroscopic analysis instrument told her that the staff possessed special energy, and everything was not as simple as it seemed, even the fluffy little black cat he had stuffed into his pocket.
And then there was that tattered-looking book. Shuri could understand a few words on it, such as "weather," "wind," "cloud," and "season," followed by a jumble of geometric patterns and twisted, stiff secret symbols. She knew what magic was, but no one in Wakanda had ever learned it. Perhaps the knowledge bestowed upon the first Black Panther warrior by the Black Panther God contained elements of the mysticism, but Wakanda had lost that knowledge, leaving only its burgeoning technology.
Salomon rejected Surrey's suggestion to retreat to the coast to avoid the storm, behaving with the bravery of Fritjof Nansen, the first adventurer to cross Antarctica by sled, as if the approaching storm were nothing more than a warm summer evening breeze.
"What are you planning to do?" Su Rui asked. "Wakanda's weather weapon is too large; there's simply no time to transport it over."
"I don't need those weather weapons," he said. "I can break the storm myself."
