Chapter 523 Prey and Hunter
Chapter 523 Prey and Hunter (Second Update)
Diana waited in the café for a long time. After receiving the signal, she left a document on the table and left. The café waiter collected the tip, the untouched food, and the document together and took them to the kitchen, then handed the document to today's garbage collector. The garbage truck, carrying the document and the person, drove north of the city. As it passed the "Three Little Stars" flower shop on Burke Avenue in the East Bronx, the garbage collector rolled down his window and looked at the black Mercedes S500 sedan parked next to the garbage truck.
ROOT rolled down her window, smiled, and handed over a banknote, taking the file. She pulled down her sunglasses and winked at the garbage collector. She accepted the file from Salomon on behalf of the machine. This was the shadow of New York City's surveillance; no camera could see her. With the machine's help, the Berk Avenue cell tower was temporarily out of service, and no cell phone camera could connect to the network—accepting the Samaritan's AI didn't mean Salomon and the machine had completely broken off; on the contrary, it increased the machine's importance. Only artificial intelligence can counter artificial intelligence; just as you need reins to tame a wild horse, the machine was the reins and lock Salomon had placed on the Samaritan.
The money in Salomon's account was money the Samaritans had earned through stock market manipulation; it was all legal and compliant. That's why Maria Hill couldn't find the source of Salomon's funds, and even the IRS couldn't cause him any trouble—he had hired an accounting firm to do his books, making even illegal money appear legal. It hadn't been long since Salomon, through the sorority and a heavy tank, had seized control of the Samaritans in Brooklyn, and Agent Hill couldn't connect the two events at all.
The intelligence organization that originally had Samaritans, called Desima, is now also trying to cause trouble for Salomon. They want to find out who transported that group of high-tech soldiers and a heavy tank to the city last time, a task that not just anyone can accomplish. Every step leaves a trace, but Salomon doesn't walk; he hops, so Desima's investigation is making no progress for the time being.
They dared not tell Congress about the Samaritan's theft because the US government had granted Samaritan access to monitor and spy on everything on the internet. The theft of such a vital national asset would implicate more than just one member of Congress. Moreover, Congress was in turmoil; the repercussions of the Hydra affair were spreading, and members were preoccupied with their own problems. Even some of the members who questioned Agent Romanoff about the S.H.I.E.L.D. incident had been found to be Hydra agents themselves. No one wanted to be associated with anything that might leak state secrets.
But now, they are not the only hunters lurking in the shadows.

Ms. Groves received
"Oh! Such a polite little sweetheart!" ROOT tore off the sticky note and opened the file. She raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by the information inside. But she quickly chuckled, folded the file, and put it in her handbag. She was a hunter too, and the best hunters only appear in the form of their prey. The information blockade was gone. ROOT started the car, drove through the intersection of Eastchester Road, and made a phone call.
"Hi, Shaw!" she said into the phone. "I know you're listening. Please come find me; we have a big operation. You know where I am, darling."
Using someone else to do the dirty work wasn't too difficult a plan for Salomon; the challenge lay in evading the Samaritan. He wouldn't completely trust the Samaritan, just as he would never trust the machine.
Dina, who was hiding in the alley, witnessed everything that happened.
Everything was going according to plan. Salomon had even invited Agent Romanoff, who had temporarily ended his pursuit of Hydra, to the Immortal City for a vacation—actually, it was just a pretext for him to take a break and leave the work to Stephanie. The Trinity semester was about to begin, but he had only just opened the emails from professors across various disciplines with their reading lists. This meant that Salomon would have to spend several days studying dozens of books spanning different subjects from cover to cover.
The spell "Scholar's Touch" only allows him to read the book, not to learn the knowledge. So, while he was helping Agent Romanov apply sunscreen, a book was also placed in the shade of the parasol.
"This doesn't suit us at all, Salomon." Romanov basked in the sunshine. Salomon had healed the small scar on her abdomen, allowing her to wear the black bikini Salomon had chosen, revealing a large area. It was an employee perk. As long as she could teach those girls combat skills, she could enjoy a global, zero-latency vacation experience, and even a vacation on another planet.
"You're such a bookworm," Natasha said, narrowing her eyes. "Don't you know that you shouldn't be reading a hundred-year-old book while sunbathing with a girl? And definitely don't wear a suit—it's so unromantic!"
"I think a tropical fruit soda will do," Salomon said, taking a sip of his juice. He put on his sunglasses, perfectly fitting the occasion, his eyes never leaving Agent Romanov's perfect physique. Their relationship was somewhat strange, tinged with a forbidden air, because Agent Romanov had practically watched him grow up, and seemed capable of occupying a category in the world of pornography and slang.
"This is the second time I've used this magic; the last time was in Antarctica." He brazenly revealed this information to Agent Romanov. "Enjoy this hard-won sunshine, Natasha. The highest temperature in London right now is only thirteen degrees Celsius. Last time I suggested you come with me to China for some spicy hot pot, but you didn't want to go. Are you regretting it now?"
"Why don't we go eat Japanese food? I really want to have tempura."
"I guarantee you can't surpass me in culinary skills. I can tell you, Japanese food is definitely not as good as mala tang (spicy hot pot)," Salomon said. "I swear on the souls of 122 Xandar snails! Although they are slimy and look quite disgusting, they are still the most precious ingredients in the universe. So my oath carries a lot of weight."
"Cute little boy, why don't you gain weight?" She stretched out on the beach chair, sweat glistening on her smooth skin. Her body seemed blessed by Priapus, possessing a beauty entirely different from that of a witch. She guided Salomon's genes to manipulate his organism, wielding the scepter of desire. "Want to get closer?"
"Maybe next time," Salomon smiled shyly. "You're covered in sweat right now."
"You shouldn't be reading books; you should be learning how to get along with girls."
"Perhaps," Salomon raised an eyebrow. "How do you know I can't?"
"You did this on purpose?" Agent Romanov took off his sunglasses and said, feigning surprise.
"Hmm~"
