Chapter 530 The Bad Guy Merlin
Chapter 530 The Bad Guy Merlin (First Update)
Many days had passed since the last Dark Magic lesson, and Wanda had consistently followed Salomon's instructions, focusing solely on the theoretical aspects of Dark Magic. Salomon, in turn, adhered to the precautions for teaching Dark Magic, increasing the frequency of lessons to ensure the students' safety. But this time, however, Salomon did not immediately believe Wanda's unexpected words.
He listened attentively, without resorting to his usual methods of analyzing the phenomena described using his past experiences and textbook knowledge. He didn't interrupt the conversation, because he didn't want to miss a single word. Accompanied by gesturing with her fingers, Maximov, whose education level wasn't very high, spoke haltingly, trying her best to describe the details Salomon had asked her to repeat, elaborating on what she had seen and heard, using the vocabulary she had learned.
Every detail was carefully considered by Salomon, who gently raised questions before Wanda Maximov, somewhat nervous and uneasy, offered his explanations. Sometimes he would substitute words with exquisite elegance and precision, showcasing his mastery of English literature. "You said the spellcaster's dreams are peculiar," she said, clenching her fingers, her tongue slightly tied. "This is the strangest dream I've ever had, and I swear it's because I used the psychic tablet. I wonder if I've done something wrong with it? Will having such dreams have any aftereffects? Am I connected to the devil or something like that?"
"I can assure you that you are using the psychic board without any mistakes."
"Then why can't I contact your celestial being?" Her eyes widened. Like all Kamar-Taj arcane apprentices, she needed to understand the horrors of dark magic, but the horrific and bloody content far exceeded the psychological capacity of most people. The books left behind by Salomon had terrified her. It was hard for others to imagine that Salomon had read such content when he was only a few years old. If the education department found out about this, child protection organizations would definitely come knocking on the door and protesting Kamar-Taj's crude educational methods.
"What I saw was definitely not you." She wanted to stick out her tongue and make a face to lighten the mood. But Salomon's serious expression dissuaded her. "You told me that the devil has a cunning appearance, and even when you see something beautiful, you can't immediately believe it. Always be vigilant, that's what you said."
"I've been thinking about that too, my dear." Salomon sat cross-legged on the edge of Wanda's bed, resting his chin on his hand. "Your prayer contains a part of my real name, so the reference is spot on. Only a few people know part of my real name, and you are one of them."
Wanda was somewhat moved; she knew the importance of a real name to a spellcaster.
A person's real name is generally defined based on their biological type or the things they are doing, and this general real name changes when they receive a transfiguration spell. However, a personal real name never changes; a slight tremor in the pronunciation and a minor change in tone are enough to alter this delicate magic. Wanda spent a long time learning how to pronounce that small part of her real name and couldn't wait to use it on the psychic board.
But this feeling was quickly overwhelmed by tension and unease.
The dream of towering trees, snakes, and a golden giant was so eerie that Wanda felt she could never forget it. Whenever she recalled the dream, she would discover details she had never noticed before. For example, the golden eagle wings spread across the giant's armor, the ancient snake coiled in the giant tree, the fruit brimming with endless wisdom hidden beneath the leaves made of white feathers, and the deep, evil roots that whispered blasphemous words deep underground. Wanda felt so small, so insignificant before these magnificent things that she suffocated in the dream, waking up in a cold sweat.
Everything was so clear, except for the giant's face, which was shrouded in blinding light.
Salomon glanced at the stigmata on his finger. Clearly, it had also affected Wanda.
“Wanda, I want to teach you a new spell. Don’t worry, it’s not dark magic, just a simple and practical trick.” He narrowed his eyes. The tense atmosphere in the room melted away as he smiled, and Wanda quietly breathed a sigh of relief. When Wanda cast the spell, Salomon knew he had won. Even if Sithon schemed against Wanda Maximoff in the future, Salomon would have the power to retaliate. “Remember to use the psychic board before bed, Wanda,” he said. “That dream didn’t affect you much. You’ve already mastered the basics of communication and will soon be able to contact my celestial body. Tonight you can try [Candlelight Communication]; I’ll prepare everything for you.”
"Remember, eat less tomorrow, and preferably avoid anything rough." Before leaving, he winked at the Maximov siblings. "Pietro, don't touch your sister's books! Tomorrow we're going to the White Cat restaurant in Paris as a reward for your progress! Aleister Crowley is a regular there; whether he's a fraud or not is another matter, but his knowledge of the occult is extensive enough that you'll definitely find it interesting!"
Pietro glanced at his sister, then pointed to his head at Wanda, who shook her head, equally bewildered. Neither of them knew why Salomon was so happy. Salomon left satisfied, not even bothering to give Pietro more homework. He wanted to tell the Sorcerer Supreme about his discoveries and recent achievements. He was confident the Supreme would be pleased with his experiment. Although it had been a risky move, he had succeeded; he was now qualified to speak with Mother Earth.
Only that old man Merlin could contact the Earth Mother, and Salomon had to go through that unreliable fellow to see Gaia. To be honest, Salomon had never actually seen Merlin in person; the old man was shrouded in mystery, and Salomon only knew that he existed. But this time was different; he had to communicate with Merlin face-to-face. Balthazar was out of the question; he was retired, and Dave hadn't finished his studies and couldn't possibly see Merlin.
He had to ask the Venerable One for help, otherwise Merlin would surely fool him with illusions.
That wicked old man has a thousand faces; no one knows if he's hiding right next to you.
"Someone's coming." Wanda knocked on the wall to quiet Pietro down.
An agent dressed in a Hydra uniform glanced inside through the observation window.
"Good job, lad," the Hydra agent muttered. He clicked his tongue in satisfaction, closed the observation window of the iron gate, tossed his gun into the corner, and transformed into an elderly man. He wore a beige woolen overcoat and a plaid scarf. He was tall, with a face covered in wrinkles. He had long white hair, and most strikingly, his bright, dreamlike eyes showed no signs of aging; the swirling, multicolored stardust in his pupils was captivating.
Taking advantage of his absence from the N-Gara dimension to sneak off and visit the little fellow on whom the Sorcerer Supreme had placed such high hopes. Of course, he hadn't forgotten the last druid of the Merlin school, but Dave was too dense, always thinking about romance and completely failing to learn the Merlin school's tradition of dashing charm, which pained him greatly.
"How come Salomon is so attractive to girls? Could he be the true heir to the Merlin school?" Merlin muttered to himself as he passed through the solid, thick wall. He had already observed Wanda's performance; it was he who had corrected her spell last night to protect her dreams from falling into Sithon's hands. "That reckless little thing, he actually guessed right." Merlin sighed, recalling the incredibly dangerous battle of the previous night. "Why do I have to work overtime even though I snuck out? Isn't this the Sorcerer Supreme's job?"
