Chapter 672 Clothing Style and Identity Verification

Chapter 672 Clothing Style and Identity Verification (First Update)

He exhaled, the dry, cold air quickly cooling the heat, water vapor condensing into white frost on his eyelashes, like black tree branches encased in white icicles in winter. His fingers gripped the wooden handrail of the bookshelf tightly, his knuckles blue from the cold, as if even the blood vessels were frozen. His obsidian-like, pure eyes were fixed on his colleague below the handrail, a look of displeasure on his face.

"I'm very busy, I have a lot of documents to review." As he spoke, a thick fog once again enveloped his eyes.

“That’s a prophet, Salomon! Though her mind is clouded by magic, her soul accepts it without hindrance.” The young mage pursed his lips, his voice causing a tiny resonance in the frozen dust of the vast, deep library. In this frigid place, only a few burning incense sticks offered negligible warmth. “Her words and actions represent the will of some magical entity, which is why we call her a ‘prophet.’ I know you can hardly ignore her clumsy incantations, but the magic she demonstrates is undeniably effective, and that alone should give us pause.”

"So that's why the Venerable One let her go, wanting to see what that crazy woman was up to?"

"Didn't you already guess? I just used that time to eat something; that's called making good use of time. Who knew she'd run straight into the police station!" Little Wang's round face showed no remorse, as if the police taking away the crazy woman was less important than the freshly baked dried duck and roast goose. He laughed and said, "To get her back, I need your worldly influence. Come on, it's just that I forgot to bring you some; is it really necessary to hold a grudge like this?"

Salomon muttered words like "betrayal" and "go-getter" as he slowly descended the escalator, stretching his numb limbs. "You owe me one," the tall sorceress said with a smile. "I need you to take Wanda to a teahouse for something to eat, and I also need some hot food. I hope mine will still be warm when I return."

"This spell will at least give me two pimples! But—" Little Wang the mage didn't object. He subconsciously glanced around, then lowered his voice. "—You actually brought the Daughter of Chaos back," he said. "I thought you'd be out there guiding her!"

"That was before. Now I think someone's got their eye on Wanda..."

"You called her name, and quite naturally!" The young mage, his previous playful demeanor replaced by a serious expression, said. "Have you developed feelings for her, or perhaps the other way around?" he continued. "Your union with the witch has already drawn much opposition; they don't want to see the Daughter of Chaos also gain such privileges. The witch and the Daughter of Chaos are equally dangerous. Are you prepared to kill her if necessary?"

"You're questioning me, brother!" Salomon glared at him. He knew who the young mage was speaking for.

The families of sorcerers have always been an important part of Kamar-Taj, especially in the position of High Deacon, where generations of sorcerers hold the majority of positions. The elders of these families know that, as long as the Sorcerer Supreme doesn't wish to die, the magic of Vishanti can extend his lifespan until cosmic heat death. Therefore, the sorcerer families have never attempted to usurp the Sorcerer Supreme's position; only those sorcerers who joined Kamar-Taj by fate would do such a foolish thing. Even so, the sorcerer families do have a voice on certain issues, and the Sorcerer Supreme respects their long-standing contributions.

"Is this a questioning of my resolve, or a questioning of my magic? Witches have not received any special privileges; the rules they follow are no different than before, and they have never asked for any power!"

"Don't say such hurtful things, Salomon." The young mage shook his head. "You know these are legitimate concerns, and they would prefer you to find your partner within the mystical family. You are the Venerable One's direct disciple, which makes the witch one of us—that's a fact. To some, that means privilege."

"I'm not angry. I just didn't expect that someone would still be eyeing my bloodline potential, after all, we're not a school that inherits through bloodlines." Salomon's expression was calm. "His Holiness allows healthy competition within Kamar-Taj, but it seems to me that some people are taking this as a sign of His Holiness's laxity. I don't understand why anyone would think that Kamar-Taj would turn a blind eye to traitors. Look at the records here; there are many records of executing fallen mages. Does anyone think that His Holiness would show mercy to mages with thoughts of betrayal? His Holiness wouldn't, and neither would I."

"Very good!" said the young monk Wang with a smile. "I have completed the message I was asked to convey. Shouldn't we go and bring the prophetess back now?"

When Salomon arrived at the police station, the New York City free shopping event had already ended, and the NYPD officers, having finished their day's work, finally breathed a sigh of relief. Officer Carter asked someone else to pick up her son from school, while she volunteered to stay and work overtime. Other responsible officers did the same, but Officer Carter's troubles were greater—she contacted her old friend, Mr. Finch, and used facial recognition to identify the mentally unstable woman. However, all the records were outdated; she only knew that the woman had been sent to a mental hospital in her childhood, and later, due to a fire that killed many patients, she was unwittingly registered as deceased. Officer Carter inquired with mental hospitals capable of accommodating patients, but was told they could not accept patients without valid identification. This gave Officer Carter a major headache, and she had no choice but to volunteer to work overtime until she found a place for the mentally unstable woman.

"Are you Officer Carter?"

"Yes, is there anything I can help you with?" Officer Carter looked up from the file and was immediately startled.

A man and a woman stood before her desk, both tall and dressed in black suits, yet their styles were completely different. What they had in common was their striking good looks; almost everyone in the police station was watching them. The man had beautiful long, curly black hair, wore a three-piece British suit, the lapel pin and cuffs gleaming, the suit perfectly wrinkle-free, giving him a dignified appearance. The woman had a chic short haircut and wore sharp-looking glasses. She wasn't wearing a tie, and her white shirt was unbuttoned, revealing her beautiful curves. A delicate chain adorned her fair chest, and triangular blue gemstone earrings hung from her earlobes, a perfect blend of elegance and ruggedness. Their every move exuded intimacy.

They look like models straight out of a fashion magazine cover! Officer Carter thought to himself.

The man, his expression gentle, handed his identification to Officer Carter. Officer Carter noticed the light reflecting off the ornate rings on the man's hands. Years of experience allowed her to quickly deduce the value of the three gemstone rings; she estimated that one ring could buy an apartment in Manhattan. "I'm FBI Agent Salomon Damonette, and this is my partner, Bayonetta," he said with a smile, seemingly unconcerned that government agents couldn't possibly afford such gemstone rings. "We're here to take someone away."

"As long as you have the paperwork." Officer Carter had a premonition.

“Yes, I have it.” The man produced the transfer order. Officer Carter examined it carefully with suspicion, and sure enough, the photo on it was of the crazy woman. This further fueled Officer Carter’s suspicions. While pretending to check the documents, she secretly sent an email requesting verification of the two people’s identities. “We need to take her away, and we also need all the CCTV footage that captured her.” Salomon maintained his charming smile. “It’s said that you’ve been taking care of her. Have you heard what she said? Have you taken a statement?”
