Chapter 714 Minor Surgery

Chapter 714 Minor Surgery (Second Update)

Conflict was bound to erupt sooner or later, and only by remaining uninvolved could one intervene at the right time and steer the situation toward the desired outcome. Even if he wasn't interested in the conflict, the arcane mage didn't want to get involved in that cesspool of disputes. Besides, he had his own things to do.

The prophetic date for the resurrection of Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god, is approaching, with an error margin of no more than ten years.

The Aztec gods, too, were beings born from the blood of the ancient gods. Facing a being who had once been given a divine title and was fond of blood sacrifices, everyone in Kamar-Taj remained vigilant. Only the Venerable One and Salomon, who also possessed the ability to see the future, were less tense, because Salomon had grasped the thread of the resurrection of Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god—Laura Crawford. He needed time to prepare for the impending dragon slaying, and taking this opportunity to leave New York was not a difficult decision to make.

Salomon agreed to maintain a low profile, promising Agent Hill that he would live a quiet life and would not engage in any "illegal" activities—meaning actions that violate secular laws, such as crossing borders without permission or killing enemies without authorization. Although Agent Hill was somewhat skeptical, she had no choice but to temporarily believe Salomon's words, as no one could restrain the sorcerer. She told the sorcerer that his purchase of the estate could not be kept secret from the Avengers' intelligence system, and that moving to Oxfordshire, while meaning escaping the vortex of New York, did not mean that no one could monitor him.

That's what she said, and then Salomon commanded his assault transport ships to destroy the former S.H.I.E.L.D. satellite, now a U.S. military spy satellite. Agent Hill knew that Salomon was involved, but she couldn't find any evidence to protest because she had no idea that Salomon possessed extraatmospheric combat capabilities. Even the U.S. military thought it was a low-probability event caused by a meteorite. Radar couldn't detect the heavily modified gunships used for special operations, nor could it detect the Immortal City's hacking into the military's Starlink network.

This is not because the US military is incompetent, but because the Immortal City possesses too much technology that is ahead of its time.

Before Earth fully assimilates the technology from the Chitauri, most alien races that have left their home planet could inflict devastating damage on the currently fragmented world. The so-called superheroes, lacking organization, discipline, and numbers, are simply too few to change anything. If the National Guard had been able to enter Manhattan during the Battle of New York, and the military had reacted quickly by deploying armed helicopters, the Avengers might not have been a contender.

The Avengers are merely an emergency response team—that's the positioning Nick Fury established. And indeed, that's the case. For example, the weapons Stark produced after closing its arms manufacturing division largely followed the principle of "fitting into the Iron Man suit." Expensive and compact, but their actual effectiveness was less than a single tank shell. This isn't to completely deny the role of individual combat armor, but rather that their roles differ. Therefore, Salomon removed Stark's high-tech, aesthetically pleasing, and flashy designs, instead equipping powered armor with thick armor, weapons, and energy backpacks to maximize its ability to enhance individual combat capabilities.

Salomon also possessed a suit of power armor, but the armor plates were not forged by the dwarves; instead, they were black power armor manufactured using advanced technology from Wakanda and the Immortal City. Apart from the eagle emblem with outstretched wings, the armor had no other markings.

In the newly renovated master bedroom of the manor, the witch sat on a soft chair, enjoying the warm afternoon breeze. She wore a thin white nightgown, and her long hair, which had somehow returned to its original length, piled up on her shoulders like the distant dark clouds outside the window. Ravens were moving away from the approaching storm, and the dull rumble of thunder and the damp smell of rain slowly swept in from the gray horizon. Diana stood silently beside her, holding a thermos in her hands.

The fireplace burned listlessly, and the witch opened the window to let in some fresh air. However, to her surprise, the air outside was just as heavy, and she couldn't help but feel angry at Salomon for insisting on moving to England. This was especially true when she saw Salomon's current state.

"What are these?" Bayonetta asked, pointing to two small, round metal pieces above Salomon's chest, sounding annoyed. She then discovered more of these silver metal pieces on his thighs and arms. These pieces were deeply embedded under his skin; she wouldn't have noticed them at all if Salomon hadn't taken off his clothes.

"It's just a minor surgery, my dear." The sorcerer walked over, put his arm around the witch's shoulder, and showed her the recent technological achievements of the Immortal City.

Stark's Iron Man suit operates using force feedback. Even though he receives signals from the suit through subcutaneous receivers and responds to his movements via built-in subroutines, his suit is still force feedback armor. This is perfectly adequate for Tony Stark, but far from sufficient for Salomon and his genetically modified warriors, whose movement speed far surpasses that of ordinary humans.

Compared to force feedback control, neurally connected powered armor can respond to the user's movements much faster. If they were wearing ordinary powered armor, the joint motors would likely be damaged because they couldn't keep up with their speed. To solve this problem, he needed a device that could detect neural signals, and what Salomon had was the result of the Immortal City's efforts—a preliminary surgery to control neurally connected powered armor, jointly developed by Princess Shuri and Maya Hansen.

This technology actually originated from Wakanda, but it had been left idle due to its lack of use. After Shuri took it out and made some modifications, she finalized the surgical procedure with Maya Hansen's biological laboratory. With Salomon's authorization, they used a highly dangerous symbiote, which, after being processed using a secret method, ultimately formed the surgical material they needed. With the help of a high-tech robotic arm, they completed all the work in just half a day. The surgical wound healed quickly; the amount of blood Salomon shed was even less than when he cut his finger.

"Armor only hinders the perception of magic; you're only hindering the casting of spells!" Bayonetta lowered her eyes and picked up the book she had just put down. She tugged at the loose shoulder strap, making no mention of how she had spent an hour completing all the checks and confirming the number of all the receivers on Salomon's body.

"Trust me, this won't happen." Salomon blinked. "But I'm curious to see how witches cast spells. Where's Joan of Arc? We agreed to wait for her today."

"She went to London to do some shopping, Master," Diana replied calmly, as if she hadn't witnessed the witch and Salomon's intimate foreplay. "Two combat personnel are accompanying her and providing transportation. Should I contact the security team to coordinate?"

Bayonetta blushed, a rare occurrence for her. "Don't tell anyone, or it will make me seem too greedy."

"Ahem, Diana, I need your help to arrange for people to put the power armor I brought back into the armory."

The maid glanced at the witch and obediently accepted the order to send her away.

"Should we close the door, Master?"

"certainly!"
