Chapter 718 Violent Negotiation: The Spy Banshee
Chapter 718 Violent Negotiation (Part 1) (Second Update) Spy Banshee
Lorelei not only wanted to obtain the Asgardians' method of manipulating the Rainbow Bridge through Simeonjog, but also the Asgardian wizards' research findings on the Rainbow Bridge. These were among the Asgardian royal family's deepest secrets; even the library of Kamar-Taj didn't have much information about the Rainbow Bridge. It could be said that Asgard's current status was entirely built upon research that enabled long-range, zero-delay military deployment—Asgard itself didn't produce many valuable natural resources; the Asgardian royal family used the Rainbow Bridge to continuously plunder resources from exoplanets, creating Asaheim's all-encompassing landscape and prosperous economy.
Just like the Vikings sailing out to sea in longships to raid, only Asgard possessed a powerful and wise royal family and the ability to seize opportunities to transform plundered resources into military equipment and technology, rather than squandering them at repeated banquets. Hela completely failed to understand Odin's intentions; the Allfather's so-called peaceful development was merely a helpless measure, a mask to be discarded when the time was right. After rapid military expansion, Asgard needed a long period of plunder and recuperation, relying on the Asgardians' low birth rate to slowly restore the population and society of Asaheim and Vanaheim. Unbridled expansion would only cripple Asaheim's already scarce natural resources and industrial capacity.
The future will be reversed; Salomon will do exactly the same thing that Bauer and Odin did to conquer the Nine Realms in the past.
The Sorcerer Supreme believed his disciple could surpass him and Odin, replacing the Asgardian royal family as the new All Father. He also entrusted Salomon with a secret document about the World Tree, intended as his ultimate means of utilizing this cosmic system and magical entity after the plan's success. According to the Sorcerer Supreme himself, this plan was formulated thousands of years ago, but he had simply lacked the opportunity to implement it.
"I'm sorry, I can't send the gift through the embassy." The sudden voice startled Lorelei, causing her to jump up from her chair and knock over the mead glass on the table. However, she clutched the parchment tightly in her hand, untouched by the mead stains. But upon recognizing the person standing behind her, joy overwhelmed her fear and other emotions like a tidal wave. Just as the mead glass was about to hit the ground, an incredibly intricate spell appeared. Then, as if time had reversed, all the golden liquid returned to the glass, and it rested steadily in its original position.
"My Lord!" Unable to contain her impulse, she gave a slight bow and eagerly leaped into the sorcerer's arms. She closed her eyes, letting out a soft, kitten-like whimper, her legs tightly wrapped around Salomon's waist. She buried her face in Salomon's long hair, greedily inhaling the sorcerer's scent. "I received the invitation, I'm about to succeed..."
"I know, I know," Salomon gently patted Lorelei's back. A moment later, the daughter of the Rhine blushed and jumped down. Salomon stopped her from tearing at her clothes. "I'm here to hear your mission report, Lorelei," he said softly, his hand gently stroking her body to soothe her anxious heart. "This can wait until you've completed your mission and returned to Midgard."
"But, ever since I came to Asgard, I haven't... Well, my lord, it is your will." Lorelei visibly shrugged, and if Salomon's hand hadn't been caressing her neck and cheek, she might have truly lost all motivation. The sorcerer wasn't surprised by this. To make this bewitching woman work for him, he had to completely eradicate the mind Lorelei had built up over a thousand years, turning her into a tool she couldn't live without.
"Perhaps you'll be interested in a rumor, my lord." Lorelei closed her eyes, enjoying the intimacy offered by the arcane mage. "It concerns the prophecy of Asgard, Ragnarok. The Allfather has been searching for clues to Ragnarok for a long time, but recently a rumor has been circulating in the neighborhood that Thor is not the true heir to Asgard, nor is Loki; the true heir is someone else."
"That's why I came, Lorelei."
As the tavern lights came on and the clamor of the crowds replaced the whooshing of the airships, once again dominating the skies of Asgard, Salomon emerged from the inn. He wore a dark gray cloak, the tattered fabric concealing his magnificent robes and grotesque gestures. He carried a cane made of withered wood, and his face, hidden beneath the hood by illusion, appeared incredibly aged, making him look like an unremarkable, passing vagrant.
"Get out of my way, you old man!"
Salomon silently stepped aside, letting a drunkard, one of the most common types of people in Asgard, pass by.
The Asgardians consume an astonishing amount of alcohol each year; in their culture, only the man who can drink the most and kill the most is considered a true man. Whether noble or commoner, the martial spirit has been deeply ingrained in Asgard's people through years of warfare. Salomon was certain they didn't like bathing either, because he had just smelled the sour odor of vomit. He stopped at the street corner, his cloak obscuring a seemingly ordinary sign. He lightly tapped the rune with his cane and vanished in an instant.
"Kasirius, I smell perfume on you." He taunted the man standing before him with amusement. "If we take a stroll through the Golden Palace, we might just find your old flame by the scent of perfume. I just hope you can run fast enough when you're being chased by someone else's husband, lest you embarrass Kamar-Taj."
"Little one, you don't understand the goodness of Asgardian women. No, that doesn't seem to apply to you; you smell of Asgardian women's perfume on you too," Kasirius said with a laugh. "You're really late. If you had been any later, the spell the Venerable placed would have worn off. I don't want you trapped in that awful place, especially with that utterly insane woman there. Nobody can predict what might happen."
"Relax, the banquet hasn't started yet." Salomon emerged from the shadows where the light couldn't reach. He removed his cloak of disguise, revealing a crimson robe of hominids and exquisite jewels that reflected light in the dim lamplight, filling the entire secret chamber. Kasirius was imbued with magic cast by the Sorcerer Supreme to shield Heimdall from his gaze, preventing Asgard's chief intelligence officer from overhearing the conversations of the Kamar-Taj sorcerers. The scroll Kasirius carried possessed an even more powerful spell, its primary function being to create a passage between the Golden Palace and the Land of the Dead for Salomon to use without attracting Odin's attention.
The sorcerers of Kamar-Taj received an invitation from the Golden Palace; Loki, disguised as Odin, invited Kamar-Taj to a banquet. Salomon intended to use this opportunity to negotiate with Hela. Hela, after all, desired a unified galaxy; she craved the thrill of conquest and had no interest in governance. Salomon wanted to try and persuade Hela to support his cause, genuinely believing her fighting abilities could be invaluable in the future.
"Have you decided what to say?" Cassirios asked.
“Of course.” Salomon patted the golden power armor placed in the center of the room. The holy sword and holy spear, sealed in layers, lay in a box lined with soft velvet beside them, while Aegis, inlaid with Medusa’s head, was placed on the other side. “Summon your servants to help me put on the armor, Kasirius,” he said. “I know what languages Hela will understand.”
