Chapter 722 A World Where No One Gets Hurt
Chapter 722 A World Where No One Gets Hurt (Second Update)
The air grew colder, and the mountains beneath the dark clouds were gloomy and lifeless. Thousands of niches were carved into the rough, scarred stone walls, upon which lay the broken skeletons clad in dusty Asgardian armor. These armors belonged to warriors who had fought valiantly on vast battlefields spanning the galaxy. The horrific scars on the plates spoke of mortal wounds suffered by their occupants, and countless honors and medals testified to their service in the most dangerous and brutal places. The finest dwarven craftsmen could still mend the steel, but flesh and blood wounded like this could only perish—the skeletons within the armor were mostly incomplete, and she could not even rouse them to fight. Yet Hela preserved them, filling in their missing arms, legs, spines, and ribs with her black sword, displaying them alongside the old armor and her former spoils of war on the Blackrock Mountains of the land of the dead.
The terrifying black sword screeched as it sliced through the shield. In the instant the shield clashed, Salomon, using the power of the Goddess of Death, spun around, swinging his holy sword horizontally with a speed imperceptible to ordinary people. Hela leaned back, dodging the blade that grazed her face, her slender waist allowing her to avoid the attack. Although she had encountered this type of counterattack before, and one could say she had anticipated it the moment Salomon began to turn, her reaction was anything but relaxed. She could even feel the unbearable heat of the holy sword scorching her skin, making her face taut.
Hela grew agitated again, her anger rising uncontrollably towards Odin for stripping her of her power. She launched a counterattack with practiced precision, just before her next heartbeat, but the arcane mage blocked it with the edge of his shield. Salomon stepped forward, slamming the shield down like a battering ram. The shield shattered the black sword with a deafening crash; the hammer, powerful enough to break spines and pulverize chests, merely caused the goddess of death to stumble back a few steps with the lightness of a dance.
"This is the fourth time." Salomona's breathless voice came through the mask's megaphone, his armor lining feeling wet and sticky, stinging all over his body. "You can't kill me, Hela."
Fueled by hormones, a surge of rage and adrenaline propelled the Goddess of Death to hurl her black sword, only to have it predictably deflected by Salomon. Occasionally, a sword would slip through, but even that couldn't leave a scratch on his golden armor; however, this was enough for Hela to seize the opportunity.
She summoned hundreds of black swords that had been deflected during the previous battle. Swords nailed to niches, fallen off cliffs, or even shattered into pieces flew towards the arcane mage from all directions. With a whooshing sound and a cloud of silver mist, Salomon vanished, and Hela confidently swung her sword, "Night Sky," backward. Salomon had used this trick many times before; "Night Sky" had sliced through his arm armor and leg armor, severing his blood vessels. Unexpectedly, the arcane mage didn't appear behind her this time—then, heavily armored Salomon descended from the sky, crushing the goddess of death's leg bones with his steel boots. His scorching holy sword cleaved from her collarbone to her waist before stopping, blood instantly soaking the rough stone wall, and her writhing internal organs smoking from the heat.
Such injuries will require time for Hela to recover.
Salomon stepped back, giving her time to recover her crushed legs. He even helped Hela recover from the half of her body that had fallen to the ground. But feeling insulted, the Goddess of Death forced the arcane back with her black sword. Before she could even mend her battle suit, which had been torn to shreds in the fight, she used the shards of several short swords piercing her body to piece together her limbs, replacing her twisted and deformed legs with two black swords piercing her thighs. She staggered and bled to her feet, continuing to hack furiously at the arcane.
Salomon had never encountered such a crazed warrior in his life. He had seen people fight naked before, but this was the first time he had ever seen someone inflict pain on themselves and continue. He began to doubt whether his decision to come was even right, and whether Hela, driven to madness, could still make sound judgments and agree with his plans for the future.
"She could never agree." Frigga shook her head.
Although the fragments shown by the Sorcerer Supreme were brief, the Queen of Heaven could still discern the identities of the three girls. They were indeed Thor's granddaughters; the blonde Frigga, the red-haired Elysif, and Atreus were undeniably of Aesir divine blood. She could tell at a glance that even without their enormous axes and hammers, their rudeness alone was enough to prove their lineage. But at the same time, the other futures shown by the Sorcerer Supreme extinguished the Queen of Heaven's joy at seeing her descendants—Asgard was utterly destroyed, becoming a desolate boulder floating in space. All Asgardians were displaced, either enslaved or forced to become mercenaries, having completely forgotten their Asgardian honor. And her son Thor, with his white hair, sat on his stone throne, staring blankly at the ruins and lifeless Asgard.
"This is just an experiment; violence will only succumb to stronger violence."
"What if you fail?" the Queen of Hela asked. "What if Hela wants to take revenge on Midgard?"
"Karmar-Taj isn't without ways to kill the immortals, Frigga." The Venerable glanced at the Queen. Frigga clutched the fragment tightly, seemingly intending to take it back for repeated examination. "Actually, the Holy Sword could also do that, but Salomon is still quite polite. He doesn't intend to unseal the Holy Sword for a full-scale battle; he considers that an insult to a disadvantaged opponent."
"Hela won't appreciate it," Frigga bluntly pointed out the crux of the matter. "If Hela escapes, she'll definitely put the battle with Salomon on her agenda. And what if Salomon loses? Who do you plan to send to stop Hela? If they fail, humanity will lose far more than it gains."
"The future is too heavy, and Salomon must find a way to share the burden."
"Unless he can completely conquer Hela, I wouldn't mind letting him rule Asgard with Hela. On one hand, the future wars will be enough to satisfy Hela's bloodlust. On the other hand, Salomon's wisdom is enough to keep the reckless Thor and Loki in check and maintain a good social environment in the Nine Realms. There have been co-rule situations in human history more than once, and I think Asgard can be one too."
Frigga's words were startling, even the Sorcerer Supreme was taken aback, though his good manners prevented him from expressing it. "I don't think Salomon will agree." After a pause, the Sorcerer Supreme finally confirmed that the Queen of Heaven had nothing more to say, "He doesn't want to rule a place full of Asgardians. His mission is to revitalize the human race, not Asgard."
"I know my daughter's feelings for the warrior very well. If he performs exceptionally well in Helheim, he might already be in Hela's bed! Don't be surprised, we're not ascetics like you; Asgardians take this very seriously." The Queen of Asgard scoffed twice. "Then Salomon will be both King of Midgard and Regent of Asgard, Thor will be King, and Hela will be Warmaster. Once they unite, no one can stand against them! You see, if your disciple can completely conquer my daughter, Asgard and Midgard will be united, and the Nine Realms will expand once more! Your mission, Salomon's grand ambition, and even Thor and Hela's wishes will be fulfilled. Quickly find a way to send a message to your disciple, have him get my daughter pregnant in Helheim! This is a matter of great importance concerning the future of the Nine Realms; don't waste time!"
