Chapter 743 Special Forces Instructor

Chapter 743 Special Forces Instructor (First Update)

Karen Page's fears didn't materialize, because Salomon, when he wanted, was a fascinating chatterbox. He could always use his knowledge to fabricate plausible but nonexistent stories to keep his life a secret from unsuspecting people. Karen Page's small pistol didn't escape his notice; he went to great lengths to use his charm to prevent her from shooting him in the back when he turned away.

His magic was far too much for a weak-willed ordinary person like Karen Page; it could easily mess with her mind. Casting spells on ordinary people indiscriminately was irresponsible, and he certainly couldn't act so recklessly. So, the reception desk (one of only two desks) at the Nelson Murdoch law firm was piled high with cookies and hot tea that Salomon had somehow produced; the aroma of cookies and butter replaced the smell of ink and printing paper. Karen Page quietly burped, blushing inconspicuously, looking somewhat embarrassed. This wasn't just because she'd eaten most of the cookies, but also because she'd almost forgotten her business; she'd barely asked Salomon where the information had come from.

Almost, but she asked anyway.

Salomon, who was prepared for this, offered a perfectly plausible excuse—he claimed he found the information in documents that S.H.I.E.L.D. had uploaded online. During the Hydra rebellion, Natasha Romanoff released most of the publicly available information online, completely exposing the existence of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra. Although that information was quickly removed from the internet, many people had downloaded portions of it at that time, but no one knew the full picture. Therefore, Salomon's excuse was quite plausible and its veracity could not be verified.

It must be said that the arrival of the sorcerer lessened Karen Page's fear of Wilson Fisk considerably, and the thick file filled her with confidence. She also gave Salomon her phone number, stating that she could contact her directly for anything related to Wilson Fisk. She didn't want Matt Murdoch or Virgil Nelson to know about her private investigation; it was too dangerous, and she didn't want her friends to worry too much. By the time she was alone in the Nelson Murdoch law firm again, it was late at night, and even the street thugs outside had quieted down (she didn't know that Salomon had already beaten them all up; he considered telling the host such an almost accusatory thing extremely impolite, and Karen Page thought the thugs had switched to knives instead of guns today). Apart from the late-night snack on the table, the visitor's figure vanished without a trace, like a bubble in the sunlight. Karen Page didn't even notice that Salomon's figure grew thinner and thinner in her memory until he disappeared completely, until she couldn't even remember what he looked like.

If she tried hard enough, she could still recall that the spell Salomon had cast on her wasn't particularly powerful. Karen Page took a deep breath, mustered her courage, opened the dossier, and inserted the included memory card into the computer she'd bought at a bankruptcy auction. A moment later, the old, yellowed computer trembled as it read the information from the memory card. Following the instructions in the dossier's table of contents, she clicked through each page and was immediately stunned by its contents, nearly vomiting up everything she'd eaten.

She's starting to believe that the information was dug up from S.H.I.E.L.D.

Aside from S.H.I.E.L.D., probably few intelligence organizations possess such investigative capabilities.

When Salomon returned to his hotel suite, he found Joan of Arc, Bayonetta, and Athena already there, drinking heartily from several bottles of spirits. They giggled and whispered in a language Salomon couldn't understand. The witch had already removed her cumbersome evening gown, and even Athena was casually reclining on the sofa, pouring glass after glass of spirits and wine into her mouth. Salomon noticed that both his foster mother and the witch seemed to have serious drinking problems, as their constitutions made them almost incapable of getting drunk; large amounts of spirits only made them blush slightly. This was also why Salomon was expanding his estate's wine cellar, collecting fine wines, and even buying vineyards—after all, they seemed to be using alcohol to meet their daily hydration needs.

The room reeked of alcohol; the sorceress suspected that lighting a match now could cause an explosion. Salomon sighed and summoned his invisible servants to clear away the bottles. Clearly, Athena was unhappy about losing Vanessa as a friend, and the witches didn't mind keeping her company and talking to her.

The sorcerer had no intention of telling Athena what he had just done, but his foster mother knew all about it. From Wilson Fisk's disappearance from the party to the shooting near the orphanage, everything that had happened tonight seemed to revolve around one person, something that could be guessed simply by watching the evening news.

"Finished?" the goddess of wisdom asked, squinting her eyes.

“It’s done,” Salomon nodded. He first kissed the witch’s lips (it took a while, since there were two), then kissed Athena’s cheek, and finally sat down on the sofa with a rough tug from the goddess of wisdom. Although his foster mother had asked him to explain in detail, he omitted many details as always, so as not to torture his listeners’ ears with various numbers and legal clauses. “From now on, Vanessa has nothing to do with us anymore, and Wilson Fisk will not disturb our lives.” He said solemnly and confidently, “We have also completely severed our financial ties with them. All past payments can be classified as normal transactions, and there are absolutely no legal problems. They will not cause any investigation.”

Salomon's statement was entirely accurate. Over the next few weeks, Wilson Fisk became remarkably quiet, and the Immortal City intelligence agents monitoring him reported nothing unusual, as if Wilson Fisk had suddenly become a different person. However, this change wasn't entirely positive. The drug trade in Hell's Kitchen stalled, and suddenly, many drug-addicted thugs, barely aware of where to point their guns, began engaging in gang warfare on every street corner, attempting to become the new boss of Hell's Kitchen.

Wilson Fisker was staging a demonstration of his own value, showcasing his control over society as a means for the government to fill the void in its grassroots governance. Sure enough, it wasn't long before guests at the banquet extended invitations to him to conduct business through offshore companies established in the Cayman Islands.

Not long after, the Immortal City's intelligence department withdrew its surveillance personnel. After all, Victoria Hand had far fewer agents than she had when she was at S.H.I.E.L.D., and the manpower available was significantly less. She couldn't dedicate too much energy to someone like Wilson Fisk. Since the goal of a gang is profit, very few gangs evolve into terrorist organizations. Therefore, under Salomon's orders, she gradually withdrew from the mission, handing it over to the surveillance system.

She also has a new task: to recruit a special operations instructor.

Salomon had recruited this person before, but at that time his need for this special forces instructor candidate was far less urgent than it is now; it was merely for training androids. Salomon later resolved the issue himself, so it was never brought up again. But now, Sophia and her people have been completely incorporated into the Immortal City, and the adult males of the tribe have naturally become the Immortal City's first regular army, equipped with composite fiber bulletproof armor and high-tech firearms usable by mortals.

To maximize the combat effectiveness of these personnel, Salomon must hire a highly skilled special operations instructor.
