Chapter 794 The Power of Faith
Chapter 794 The Power of Faith (Second Update)
"I had no idea those idiots would be operating modern warfare weapons." Dressed in a white dress, Bayonetta stood at the intersection of Fifth Avenue, observing the shapes invisible to ordinary people in the sky above Fifth Avenue. Winged birdmen stood on fighter jets searching for their targets, while the pilot in the cockpit suddenly found himself completely out of control of the aircraft. His plane was diving at an alarming speed, skimming low towards Manhattan like a skipping stone.
The pilot quickly warned and called for help to his companions.
People on the ground noticed what was happening; after all, no one could ignore a fighter jet making a high-decibel noise flying so close overhead, especially when its nose was pointed directly at the building. The noise grew louder, the nose of the aircraft lowered further, and the powerful airflow generated by the fighter jet swept away all the Christmas decorations on the street like a hurricane. The engine noise shattered the fragile glass, and a shimmering snow began to fall on Fifth Avenue.
Bayonetta raised her chin, revealing her beautiful face that was hidden by the wide-brimmed hat.
A pure white choker embroidered with white roses was tied around her long neck, and her beautiful shoulders shimmered against the gray fringed edges of her high-slit, pure white rose dress. She took out two brand-new pistols, humming a Christmas carol, as if awaiting a battle like a knight charging into battle.
The angels brandished their weapons and, without hesitation, spurred the fighter jets to accelerate and rush forward.
As the plane flew over a building, the pilot activated the ejection seat. The plane was beyond saving; this tragedy would be etched in American history, comparable to 9/11. The pilot ejected just before the plane hit the ground, contemplating the potential charges and whether he would survive to leave prison.
Breathing suddenly stopped; the crashing plane and the fluttering Christmas shop flyers seemed to freeze in the air. The engine noise was stretched into a monotonous line, the music playing in the shops became a muffled murmur, and the panicked expressions of the pilot and passersby were clearly visible. The witches divided their tasks: Jeanne twisted the throttle, leaped onto the plane on her motorcycle, and swerved, knocking the pilot and his flame-spitting ejection seat out of the plane. After Jeanne finished her work, Bayonetta casually walked over and delivered a beautiful kick to the nose of the fighter jet. As if something had exploded, before most people could even understand what had happened, the fighter jet, which should have crashed, shot straight into the sky in the blink of an eye, violating all the maneuvering rules that an engine could perform; the wind whipped up by the rapidly turning wings even blew Bayonetta's hat off.
It's hard to imagine that those lithe, long legs encased in stockings could possess such terrifying power.
Bayonetta extended her hand, encased in a long glove, and gracefully caught the vintage wide-brimmed hat that was falling.
"What did the little boy say?" Joan of Arc asked.
"We'll do whatever we want," Bayonetta replied with a smile. She put her wide-brimmed hat, adorned with an exquisite rose knot, back on, and uttered something an intellectual woman shouldn't say—a far cry from the image she usually carefully cultivated. "I've been waiting for this day for a long time."
Is he coming?
"He's still looking for his armor. Salomon believes this sudden appearance of the angels must be part of a conspiracy." Upon hearing Bayonetta's words, Joan of Arc scoffed, uttering terms like "sissy" and "coward." Bayonetta glimpsed five Sisterhood members clad in black power armor, their backs adorned with flame-spraying steel wings, leaping down from the rooftop. They carried longswords and explosive pistols, landing nearby in graceful arcs of fire. They could see the blurry images of the unseen creatures, but couldn't clearly discern their feathers, halos, or armor.
"But he still cares about us, doesn't he?" The black-haired witch squinted her eyes with amusement. "Girls, come along. I know he values your lives, so stay away from the center of the battle."
"We will not back down!" The witch's words were nothing short of an insult to the sorority. The leading homunculus said in a deep voice, "Even if we die here, we will not tarnish the honor of our monarch."
Joan of Arc snorted in dissatisfaction, "Then you'd better keep up and let us see what use your swords are."
"Sisters, we will destroy all of the Monarch's enemies, including these evil spirits! With blades and bombs, with faith and fire!" The leading android activated her longsword and steel wings, charging towards the bird-headed creatures with fanatical fervor. Surprisingly, the android's electrifying longsword actually sliced into the false angel's body, colorless blood spurting out. Then, she cleanly and swiftly finished off the angel with two bombs; a slight scratch appeared on its armor, but no blood flowed. This was impossible, yet it happened.
"Show yourself, evil spirits!" With Catherine's roar, the previously silhouette-like, invisible entities suddenly took shape, like glass shards in flowing water. Although the details were still unclear, it was enough for the Sisterhood to seize the opportunity to attack them.
"Ms. Catherine!"
"Shut up, swing your sword!" Catherine charged towards the next enemy, her steel wings seeming to become real wings. "To die in battle is to be honored!"
The sorcerer, clad in a robe of holy relics, entered the temple, followed by Wanda Maximov. As they pushed open the doors, they found all the deacons hurrying about, with the sorcerer Daniel urgently activating the Agamotto crystal ball, hoping to use this artifact to ascertain the scale of this extradimensional invasion.
"How is it?" Salomon asked.
Master Daniel pointed to the crystal ball, "See for yourself."
The Agamotto crystal ball faithfully reflected the scale of this event. Like an ugly scar, New York was merely the edge of it. "We don't know why this happened; there were no warning signs," said Master Daniel gravely. "Someone is already retrieving fragments of the event from the Cosmic Cauldron, and the Venerable One has also received all the information about it. New York is not the epicenter of this event; there is only one explanation for the current anomalies."
"Those disgusting creatures appeared because of something orchestrating them; otherwise, they would have been a disorganized mess, perishing in the raging Astral War," Salomon said. He had deduced the gist of the situation the moment he saw the enemy. "Whatever is it that has brought them back together, the witch's presence is crucial."
"Yes." The old man showed none of his usual unreliable behavior. "The Eye of the World, remember? The power of a demigod, the remnants of the first movement to destroy gods."
"What's the story behind the Lady of Calamity?" Salomon mentioned the madwoman currently residing at the headquarters in the Himalayas. This woman's origins are unknown, but her prophetic and sensory abilities are incredibly powerful. However, the sorcerer Daniel shook his head, claiming that the madwoman spends all her time eating and painting on the walls, and doesn't even wear shoes. "And what about those paintings? I don't believe anyone would ignore the paintings created by a witch with extraordinary perception; they must have some symbolism or meaning."
"At first, some people did think that way, but I don't think SpongeBob and Patrick have any special meaning," Daniel the Wizard grinned. "Don't overcomplicate it; she can't draw if the TV is turned off!"
