Chapter 813 Origins
Chapter 813 Origin (First Update)
"Darling, don't make Madame Butterfly angry again."
The witch naturally knew that Salomon's attitude towards all extradimensional beings was unfriendly. Based on the arcane education and beliefs instilled in her from childhood, it was better for extradimensional beings to die, except for allies who could provide assistance. Seemingly to complement Bayonetta's words, just before the summoning time was about to end, Lady Butterfly clenched her enormous hand into a fist and stretched it out in front of Salomon, completely ignoring the presence of the Archangel. This threat was childishly laughable, but Salomon's response was equally immature.
He stuck out his tongue and made a face.
Although he was still wearing his helmet, the witch could guess his intentions from his meticulously manicured toes. She jumped down from the sorcerer's arms, stood before the two archangels, and arrogantly ignored the two headless creatures. "Don't be so childish, you're not the youngest here," she chuckled, her eyes narrowing with mockery. "Come to Mommy, we still have a fight to fight!"
"Athena wouldn't approve of that title. You snotty brat, you can't even beat the Archangel? Do you even know how to use magic?" The sorcerer patted Madame Butterfly's fading fist, his power armor and jet engine radiating heat as he muttered as he walked forward, pretending not to see the boy's friendly gesture—his relationship with the boy wasn't bad, but for some intuition, Salomon didn't like this strange fellow deep down.
When he saw the horizontal hourglass mark formed by two symmetrical triangles on the boy's forehead, his intuition told him that the boy was no ordinary person. This mark was identical in shape to the device used to restore the Falls Church, and coupled with his ability to use powers similar to the Eye of the World, manipulating time and space, Salomon couldn't afford to be overly cautious. Although he wouldn't directly attack the boy yet, it didn't stop him from using his sharp tongue to launch mental attacks on others.
His intuition told him that if the boy regained his memories and became an enemy, he would most likely need to unseal all the seals on the Holy Sword or use the Silver Key to resolve the problem. He had already contacted the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj to search for information about the boy. Someone with such power couldn't remain unknown; perhaps the boy had actually lived for hundreds of years. Just as some in the Avengers believed Salomon was actually an old wizard, he thought so too. He believed that the library of Kamar-Taj must hold some clues about the boy.
"I really hate these ugly things. Snotty brat, get out of the way. I don't want to hurt you during a fight, especially since you still have to guide us." Salomon yawned slightly. This incident had made him miss his afternoon nap and dinner, which was quite bad for a mystic who had decided to settle down at home. "Left or right? Or should I have both?"
"My lord!"
"Speak, Catherine." Salomon turned his head, activated the encrypted communication system in his helmet, and listened to the message from the Sisterhood. Thanks to the communication satellites launched by the Immortal City itself, Salomon could maintain a strong signal and communicate with others no matter where he was, even in the most remote and desolate places. He leaned against the ruins beside the fallen broom of the Archangel. There was a small dent on the broom, a mark Salomon had left during close combat. Bayonetta had initially thought he would be hit by the Archangel's weapon, and even shouted, losing her composure. However, no one expected that Salomon, seemingly to test his close-combat abilities, would meet the Archangel's swinging broom with a powerful elbow strike, successfully deflecting a terrifying attack that no ordinary person could withstand.
Although he and Bayonetta intended to rest there, it was really just to let the boy treat his wounds. Even though the boy possessed astonishing magical power, he had neither armor nor any protective spells, making him extremely vulnerable in the devastating battlefield—no one knew why he thought transforming into a flying squirrel would allow him to evade area-of-effect attacks, but he did it anyway, acting like an ordinary person who had never experienced combat, completely devoid of any defensive awareness. At the witch's request, the arcane mage gave the boy the medical supplies carried in his power armor, and now he watched as the boy applied antiseptic gel to his wounds, while the witch stood by, mocking the boy.
"You two are quite a match, at least your mouths are equally sharp." Whether it was the pain from his wound or something else, the boy let out a dissatisfied grumble. "Do any of you people even have friends?"
"As agreed, you are supposed to take us to find a friend."
"In hell?" the boy said. "Looks like you guys have pretty bad interpersonal relationships, Bayonetta."
"The Cross Rose, the Lily, and the Punishment will arrive over Noah'dune in ten minutes," Catherine said. "Baron Mordo has sent a document; do you wish to receive it?"
"Send it over."
Salomon fell silent after looking at the scanned images of the books Mordo sent him.
The incident happened so suddenly that he had never considered the issue from this perspective before.
The Eye of the World is divided into the left and right eyes, both belonging to a single deity possessing chaotic power, representing the duality of that power. It remains unknown why this deity would divide its power between the Sage and Witch races, but once the Eye of the World possesses the ability to manipulate time and space, the World Watchers could use it to travel through time, alter history, and escape the shackles of fate—of course, this is not something easily accomplished; the chaotic deity's wishful thinking was merely wishful thinking. Looking down from a higher dimension, past events are like countless dots drawn on the side of a sheet of white paper. Those in the future can only see the lines and planes drawn by those dots on the entire sheet; in reality, history has already been interfered with by the future, and those who travel through time unknowingly become key figures in driving history forward.
This is what is called destiny; what humans can see is merely its reflection in three-dimensional spacetime.
However, this doesn't mean the future is unchangeable. All destinies are in a superposition state before observation, and only at the moment of intervention can they be truly determined. This is the fundamental reason why Salomon never blindly believes in prophecies, but rather treats them as a reference; he understands best how many possibilities the so-called future truly holds. This is also the concept held by some highly accomplished occultists in Kamar-Taj. These individuals may not be much more skilled in occult arts than other occultists, but their understanding and cultivation are far superior.
According to the speculations of many sorcerers in Kamar-Taj, all the events are very likely related to the Sun Island incident.
Although Bayonetta and Jeanne d'Arc defeated Jubilus, the right eye belonging to the Sage race was destroyed, leaving only the left eye of the Witch race. This imbalance caused tremors between outer dimensions. Initially, the impact was minimal, and coupled with the loss of their greatest support, the surviving angels were hunted down by Bayonetta and Jeanne d'Arc, making the eerie calm in the upper dimensions understandable. The lower dimensions, however, experienced considerable turmoil due to the appearance of Salomon and the sudden disappearance of Malbus. However, according to Kamar-Taj's in-depth observations, both the upper and lower dimensions suddenly returned to normal a few months ago. Considering the sudden appearance of the Sage race, who should have been extinct, the most likely cause of this situation is…
Salomon glanced at Bayonetta.
"My dear, we should get going." Salomon removed his helmet and walked away from the golden weapon that the Archangel had dropped. "My stomach is rumbling if we don't leave soon. Let's take Joan out for dinner tonight; Dinah has prepared a Christmas feast, the kind without roast turkey."
