Chapter 821 Teleportation Maze

Chapter 821 Teleportation Maze (First Update)

The further they went, the more high-ranking angel corpses lay on the damp mud, their massive, pierced and dissected bodies still oozing blood. The angelic blood slowly evaporated, and golden specks of light, like fireflies in a summer night's field, rose from the corpse-strewn ground—a rare source of illumination in this dim environment, aside from the lights on their power armor. However, the Sisterhood had no time to appreciate this beauty. The spilled angelic blood had turned the ground into scalding mud, filled with the scent of rosemary. They trudged through the knee-deep mud, using their explosive guns, chainswords, and explosives to clear the mountain of corpses. In the darkness, the four-elemental virtuoso representing the wind element, Temperance, stood like a small mountain in the center of the mud, surrounded by impact craters resembling those of a meteorite. The Sisterhood watched as it was pierced by the spear of light that Catherine had transformed into, and then plunged into the darkness.

As they approached, they discovered that the Angel of Temperance was surrounded by a dense concentration of high-ranking angel corpses. Most of her wounds were cuts, and her two massive arms were scattered in different locations. Aside from blunt force injuries inflicted by Lady Butterfly's fists, her body was covered in numerous sharp-force wounds. The hurricane trails marked by their night-vision electronic eyes in the darkness indicated that the Angel of Temperance had survived for some time after her fall, suggesting a fierce battle had taken place here. The Sisterhood, guided by a desperate intuition, groped forward and finally found her atop a mountain of angel corpses. From a distance, Catherine's figure appeared to still be standing atop the pile of corpses, wielding her longsword in battle, the bodies of false angels lying at her feet.

The sorority called her name, cautiously approaching. Though they had anticipated it, overwhelming grief still engulfed everyone present—a golden spear pierced her abdomen, another pierced her chest from behind, pinning her firmly to the angels' corpses. Catherine's power armor was covered in wounds, large and small, her massive, iron-gray steel wings unfurling to provide final protection. She stood there motionless, a chilling rage burning within her, seemingly ready to strike again at any moment.

After the sorority carefully lifted her from the pile of corpses, they noticed the deep, gaping cave behind Catherine. The human girl removed her mask, her face contorted with grief. She sniffed, "How are we going to explain this to the monarch? He loved her so much!"

"We don't need to explain," an android said calmly. "The monarch is definitely inside. She fended off all the false angels who tried to pursue her. She did a great job; there is no greater honor than that."

"How could you be so heartless, sister!" a human girl cried out in disbelief. "Lady Catherine is dead!"

The android shook its head.

“It’s not that I don’t love her, sister; I love her as much as I love the monarch. But this is the destiny we were born to fulfill. The sister will forever remember and celebrate her great sacrifice, and the monarch will never forget her loyalty.” The homunculus removed her helmet, looking at Catherine, who was being held in the arms of another homunculus, and said with tenderness, “Rejoice for her, sister; she has fulfilled her mission. She will stand beside the monarch, forever enjoying this unprecedented glory.”

This is not a beautiful dream! This is a dream enveloped in the stench of rotting flesh!

Bayonetta twitched her fingers and jolted awake.

She scrambled to her feet and looked around, finding herself lying on a massive, sticky, purple mass of flesh. The stone platform that had carried her and the boy was now broken and lying behind her. The last thing she remembered was that the lower-dimensional biological battleship, [Insidious], had opened its massive maw and swallowed her along with the rushing water after she had shattered its eyes.

"Little thing, where are you?" Bayonetta only had one path to take. She used magic to transform into a black panther and ran forward until she reached a huge cavity. It was filled with pink tendons. Bayonetta looked up and saw a boy, unconscious, submerged in a translucent, blood-red liquid within an organ resembling a lymph node, surrounded by numerous massive tendons and connective tissue. Just as the witch was about to break through this strange confinement to release the boy, a golden beam of light pierced straight into the boy within the organ.

Bayonetta immediately raised her dual pistols and fired dozens of bullets in the blink of an eye.

The masked sage raised his hand and cast a spell, catching the incoming bullet. The next moment, he appeared behind Bayonetta.

He calmly tossed the bullet, still imbued with potential energy, but as he finished casting [Swift Stream], the witch reacted instantly, her speed comparable to the bullet's trajectory. However, the moment Bayonetta dodged the bullet, the masked sage had ample time to continue his assault on the boy. Annoyed, the witch swiftly pursued, kicking away the spear tip that was about to pierce the boy. After creating distance, she fired again at the masked sage, but the bullets were all deflected in mid-air by him. He hurled the two short gun fragments at the witch like boomerangs, but Bayonetta nimbly dodged them by the narrowest of margins; even the swirling blades couldn't harm the witch's elegance.

Although neither the masked sage nor the witch sustained any serious injury in their battle, both blades and bullets undeniably struck the cunning organs, causing a torrent of foul-smelling blood to gush forth. "Mind if I ask where your opponent went?" the witch asked with a light laugh. She glanced at the spear in the sage's hand and his shattered mask. "I'm not worried about him; I just want to know how much you paid to escape from him."

However, the masked sage did not answer her question. "Get out of my way, witch. This is none of your business!"

The witch answered with a bullet, "Sorry, little thing, you're still useful to me."

As gravity pulled him downwards again, the arcane mage quickly activated his jet engine to ensure he wouldn't lose his balance due to the sudden loss of buoyancy and thrust. He rolled over and landed roughly on a mosaic-tiled circular plaza, countless water droplets floating above his head. He looked ahead and saw countless architectural ruins floating haphazardly above a sea of deep purple clouds.

There's something eerie about this place.

He followed the ray-shaped lower-dimensional creature downhill, risking never being able to leave, until he arrived here. No one could have imagined that such a vast, ethereal space existed beneath Mount Finnbowent. However, upon arrival, he immediately sensed the situation. The portal he sensed was indeed here, but there were many portals of varying sizes; the largest was as tall as a mountain, and the smallest could only fit a finger. These portals were all dormant, not activated, forming a labyrinthine terrain that perplexed Salomon.

Salomon was certain that many of the portals here were the work of the witches. If the witches were monitoring the portals to the lower planes, they must have taken many precautions to prevent unauthorized outsiders or members of the sage race from entering this place. Only by mastering the correct method of passage could one reach the Gates of Hell. If one took the wrong path, no one knew where they would be teleported to, so getting lost was the best outcome. The most likely result was death in some extremely dangerous place.

As for Salomon, an outsider, all he could do was guess.
