Chapter 838 Battle of Finnbowent

Chapter 838 The Battle of Finnbowent (Second Update)

"Where is this place?" Bald asked. He was in a dark room, several iron bars decorated with exquisite brass vines blocking the way to this room from other rooms. Bald immediately recognized that the room's decor was almost identical to that of the witch clan's residence, but some artistic elements were different. The witch clan had more than one residence; the sages' residences were often located next to the witches' residences. Bald put on his golden monocle and observed carefully, discovering that this more modern art style was probably popular during the Renaissance period. This must be a residence somewhere in Italy.

"This is my time," Bayonetta said, "but there's no time to explain, we must go to the Holy Mountain."

What's on the mountain?

"I don't know. But that was once the abode of the god who created the Eye of the World. Now someone wants to take that power," Bayonetta answered truthfully. She truly didn't know what awaited her on the Holy Mountain, but in any case, that guy called the Prophet was definitely there. She was going to kill that guy. But at the same time, she forcibly suppressed her worries about Salomon, believing that Salomon would definitely find a way to return to this era.

"How are we supposed to get there? This is Vigrid," Bald said. No sooner had he spoken than the entire room began to tremble violently, a huge crack appearing in the magnificent marble mosaic floor, as if the earth's crust were crumbling apart at that moment.

"Jump!"

"Jump?" Baldr demanded. "Are you insane?"

"This isn't a request! Hurry up!" Bayonetta said impatiently. "For our people, staying awake is essential!"

The witch transformed into a jet-black cheetah, while the sage, possessing the corresponding magic, transformed into a giant white wolf. They ran out of the room and leaped onto the moss-covered stone bridge before it crumbled. Immediately afterward, several black assault transport ships, adorned with golden lilies and rose emblems, burst through the sparkling portal. Bayonetta and Baldr stood firmly on the upper armor plating of the assault transport ships, reverting to their human forms.

"It seems we've arrived just in time," Joan of Arc's voice boomed from the loudspeaker. Bayonetta looked at the several assault transport ships that had accompanied them, knowing full well that this incident was also being orchestrated by Kamar-Taj, just like the Sun Island incident, with Salomon sent out as an observer.

"Your people are..." Bald asked.

"The kind of witches you don't fuck with," Bayonetta said playfully, a double entendre. "I must admit, I prefer you this way, Baldr. You really do shut up and follow orders."

"This is my own choice," Baldr said dismissively. "Tell me, how do you know my name?"

Bayonetta secretly rolled her eyes. She wouldn't tell the truth, especially not to her father who had tried to kill her time and again. "I only heard it from that witch… the one you call Rosa, that's what she called you, wasn't it?" In short, this will get us to Finnbowent as quickly as possible.

"I can't be sure about that, witch," Baldr pointed ahead. Countless dense figures filled the airspace in front of the assault transport ship. Bayonetta narrowed her eyes and exclaimed in astonishment, "My God, angels have teamed up with demons. If they can do it, I guess we can too."

"This is only a temporary truce," Baldr said, his tone almost identical to Bayonetta's, "until these invaders are punished."

"I could say that too," Bayonetta said, raising her chin.

"Hold on tight, Ceressa," Joan of Arc said cheerfully from the driver's seat.

She seemed to press a button, and the massive cannons on the assault transport ships slowly rose, their thick, crimson lasers accurately striking an angel. Simultaneously, all the short-range missiles on the attack wings swarmed towards their target. The sight of five assault transport ships firing at once was incredibly awe-inspiring; dozens of missiles, trailing trails of flame, plunged into the swarm of angels and demons like birds returning to their nests. After the fiery glow, like a newborn sun, subsided, the remaining scattered extradimensional creatures could not escape the attacks of the twin-barreled heavy bomb machine guns and twin-barreled heavy plasma weapons mounted on the front of the assault transport ships.

Upon hearing the name, Baldr paused slightly, but quickly regained his composure, casually pointing to the assault transport ship firing at full fire. "Are these the weapons of your time?" he asked. "Are these things related to that golden guy?"

"Ah, you mean Salomon?" Bayonetta said. "That cute little fellow is a warlord now!"

"Hmph, weak and powerless machines." Baldr curled his lip. "You can never become strong by relying on these things."

"He believes that technology can solve all problems." The witch raised an eyebrow. "He also believes in the wisdom of ordinary people."

------------

Constantine surveyed the task force assembled by Tita and Victoria Hand.

The strongest members of the Sorority and battle-hardened special forces operatives from the intelligence department will ascend Mount Finnbowent with him to carry out this extremely dangerous mission. The Sorority's armed personnel are resolute and require no further testing. As for the ordinary people, Agent Hand stated that they are a group of martyrs dedicated to humanity, the backbone she had recruited from within S.H.I.E.L.D.—though Constantine was skeptical of this claim, this was the largest number of personnel they could currently muster without compromising the stability of their defenses. These soldiers, their faces radiating a sense of atonement, were their best weapon. The Immortal City doesn't lack technology, only talent. Even abducting refugees from war-torn regions and sending them to Mars for education cannot fill this gap, let alone the schools established in Africa, which will only yield results in a decade or more.

"Board the plane," he ordered.

There were no speeches, no mobilization, only cold, impersonal orders. Three assault transport craft, equipped with experimental electromagnetic shields, served as the suicide squad's vehicle. Upon receiving the order, they silently walked towards the ramp hatch, ready to depart. Constantine, meanwhile, headed towards the Guard's unique anti-gravity vehicle beside the assault transport craft. Because the assault transport craft couldn't accommodate the Guard's height, all their weaponry was handcrafted by Martian and Fallen Angel artisans—like the anti-gravity assault motorcycle he was currently riding on.

Before setting off, he made a final check on the situation of each department in the chain of command, and then he rode an anti-gravity motorcycle and rushed out of the hangar of the Sky Carrier Retribution together with the assault transport boat.

"Bunker bomb in position," the Hand agent reported. "Launch!"

Constantine looked up and, through his blood-red goggles, saw two fighter jets take off from the Lost City. After launching a total of four missiles, the jets began their return flight. The four missiles flew straight towards the summit of Mount Finnbowent. After a sonic shockwave beyond human hearing, Mount Finnbowent erupted like a volcano, billowing red smoke and steam, as if the entire mountain had been violently ripped apart. The snow on the mountainside evaporated in an instant, and the majestic rocky ridge shattered into scattered boulders. The violent shockwave spread from the mountain to the town of Noah'dune. The anti-aircraft positions immediately activated their countermeasures, unleashing a dense barrage of bullets that shattered falling rocks and panicked extradimensional creatures. Some rocks that were lucky enough to dodge the anti-aircraft arrays were stopped just before they hit the positions by Wakanda's electromagnetic shield, which acted like an umbrella covering all the positions.

Constantine commanded three assault transport boats to rush into the smoke and dust, and he followed closely behind.

Those armed personnel who remained on the position would begin climbing the mountain after the turmoil subsided, marking the final stage of the Battle of Finnbowent.

"The NERV experimental model is expected to arrive in...320 seconds."
