Chapter 845 Report on the Battle of Finnbowent

Chapter 845 Report on the Battle of Finnbowent (Part 1)

Black banners fluttered throughout the Sisterhood Monastery in the Immortal City, where thirteen pure white marble sarcophagi, emanating a chilling aura, stood side by side before the altar. Girls trained in painting were sketching portraits of their fallen sisters in the Battle of Finnbowent, while artisans and sculptors worked on carving sword-wielding figures atop the sarcophagi. All the other formal members of the Sisterhood knelt in the cold, black stone-paved hall, silently reciting prayers before the golden sculpture and altar. The leading sisters held brass incense burners, their bodies enveloped in the heavy scent of incense.

Hundreds of burning white candles were piled up near the altar, their light illuminating the golden statue from bottom to top, while the statue's face was shrouded in shadow—all the sisters who had participated in the Battle of Finnbowent could not forget what they had seen. In such a horrific battle, the fact that only thirteen sisters had lost their lives was an unimaginable victory, yet the joy of victory could not wash away the sorrow in the girls' hearts.

In the center of the thirteen pure white marble coffins lies Catherine's remains. It is said that the monarch personally carried her into the coffin and shed a single tear.

In the coffin to her left lay a human girl, a very young girl. Her cheeks were pale, her long golden hair was neatly combed, and white linen covered the horrific stitches on her body. Countless crimson roses and pure white lilies surrounded her as she fell into eternal slumber.

Vera, Tatiana murmured the names of the fallen.

It was my fault; I was too reckless.

With each chisel strike of marble, she felt a rhythmic, excruciating pain gnawing at her heart, a pain far surpassing even the stitches on her abdomen. Three days had passed since the Battle of Finnbowent, yet she couldn't forget the scene. But she couldn't tell anyone outside the Sisterhood about Vera's experience; all who witnessed it had to keep the secret.

It was while helping mortal soldiers evacuate on the mountainside of Mount Finnbowent, awaiting the arrival of assault transport ships, that her assault squad and heavy firepower squad were separated by a giant humanoid monster covered in white porcelain, gold, and rubies, wielding a golden greatsword. As the defensive line was breached, a tidal wave of monsters surged towards the heavy firepower team; their numbers were endless, and even the heavy firepower team's valiant efforts could not stop them from closing in on safety.

The enemy, relying on the corpses of their comrades, blocked the heavy bombs and high-energy plasma, and gradually approached the heavy firepower squad.

Many members of the heavy weapons squad had already drawn their forearm-length combat knives, determined to fight to the death. At that moment, Tatiana activated her steel wings, wielding her chainsword and charging ahead. She broke away from the group and lunged at the humanoid monster's sword-wielding arm, desperately trying to kill this formidable enemy blocking her path, even if it was just a slight delay, to give her sisters time to regroup. They were only a few hundred meters from the anti-aircraft artillery's defensive range, but they simply couldn't advance a few more steps.

"We are the monarch's sword, the light of faith in this dark universe!" Seeing the battle beyond saving, the heavy weapons squad leader shouted, "For our lord! Die bravely, sisters, for Lady Catherine!"

"For our Lord and for the glory of Catherine!" the heavy firepower squad shouted in response.

They stopped retreating, their fingers gripping the triggers tightly, directing their fury at the angels and demons who were only a few steps away.

Unexpectedly, Vera, the young and shy girl who was supposed to be on the flank, broke through the enemy encirclement and fearlessly charged towards the surrounded heavy firepower team. She had never been the best swordsman or marksman in the squad, but she still pounced on the enemies, as if her petite frame contained steely courage. She crashed diagonally into the flank of the heavy firepower team, slicing through the porcelain skin of the enemies under the buzzing high-speed chainsaw, her explosive pistol pulverizing body after body. Ignoring her own defenses, she smashed her explosive pistol into the enemy's head like a hammer after emptying her magazine. She swept through like a raging hurricane, displaying all the skills she had learned in the Sisterhood to their fullest extent. In less than a minute, Vera had moved from one side of the encirclement to the other, clearing all the enemies within a safe distance for the heavy firepower team, helping the assault team and the heavy firepower team to break out of the encirclement together.

They successfully received fire support from the assault transport boats, but Vera was unable to escape the enemy's encirclement.

When Tatiana called Vera's name again through the communication channel, she saw Vera raised, impaled on the tips of several golden spears. Her helmet was tattered, her limbs and chest were pierced, and blood gushed from the pierced black power armor like streams, staining her white robes a somber crimson. The enemy seemed to revel in her victory, lifting her up as if she were a trophy. An indescribable fear and rage surged into Tatiana's heart. Ignoring the objections of her sisters, she resolutely jumped off the ramp hatch and rushed towards the monsters that had killed Vera. "Our Lord is watching us, we are his swords, sisters," Vera, not yet completely unconscious, spoke in a slurred voice to the others through the communication channel, "This is what we seek... a death like Lady Catherine's..."

"Don't talk nonsense, Vera!"

Even now, Tatiana could still recall the scalding heat of the monsters' blood splashing on her. She felt her nerves burning like red-hot copper wire, her skin scorched by rage, her eyes blinded by blood, completely unaware that her sisters who had boarded the assault transport with her had also rushed down to join the slaughter. Tatiana felt that battle had lasted an eternity; when she held Vera, covered in blood, she even experienced a moment of disorientation, feeling as if she couldn't recognize the sister she had spent so much time with.

"I feel Lady Catherine is right beside me, sister." Vera's eyes were wide open, filled with blood, pink blood bubbles rising from her mouth. Her once beautiful blonde hair was now a filthy mixture of snow and mud, a mess of congealed blood. There was her blood here, and the blood of her enemies. "I..." Perhaps it was the life support system's automatic injections that had kept her going, but Vera's consciousness was already blurred. She only recognized Tatiana beside her, "Lady Catherine, she..."

"We must evacuate now, Tatiana." I can't remember which sister said it, but "enemies marked with danger are closing in on us."

"Don't speak, I'll take you away now." Tatiana tried to stand up while holding Vera. However, the dying blonde girl, with a sudden burst of strength, pushed her away and fell heavily into the blood-soaked mud. Before anyone else could pull her up, Vera groped for and grabbed the chainsaw sword that had fallen beside her.

Then... Tatiana took a deep breath, silently recalling that unbelievable scene.

She saw a blinding white light erupt from Vera, and the stains on her power armor and blonde hair vanished as if evaporated. The sorority members present raised their arms to shield their eyes, because the electronic eye systems in their helmets were no match for the intensity of the light; the girls could even smell the burning odor of overloaded electronic components inside their helmets.

"I am always with you, Vera."

Although the voice came from Vera, Tatiana knew it wasn't Vera speaking. The voice was layered, as if coming from a very distant place. The once noisy battlefield seemed to quiet down, and a cheerful voice rang out. Then, under the blinding light, all the extradimensional creatures were washed away like dirt on glass in the rain, leaving no trace. Even the powerful giant monster later known as the "Cheravidia," capable of fighting dozens of its sisters, turned into steam in the light. As the light gradually faded, the girls saw a figure with white wings floating on the empty battlefield. Vera's eyes shone brightly, and a dazzling halo surrounded her head. Ashes from the burning of enemies and white feathers that appeared out of nowhere floated around her. All the girls bathed in the light felt as if they were under a warm sun, not on a cold mountain peak.

"Ms. Catherine?" one of the sisters said in a trembling voice; they recognized the way she spoke.

"It is I," the voice responded cheerfully. "I have always been here, girls. Do not worry, Vera is with our Lord, and she will be rewarded for her loyalty and faith."
