Chapter 848 Non-stop
Chapter 848 Non-Stop Work (Second Update)
Ever since the Devil's Son incident, when the monastery's sac was ransacked, Salomon only had enough of the shroud to make a few robes. Otherwise, he wouldn't have used the cloak he originally used as armor, and the monastery's millennia-old wines would have been used as vinegar in salads in the Immortal City's kitchen. Compared to his previous everyday attire, his current appearance was much more magnificent—his hands were encased in steel gauntlets made of what looked like black snake scales, and his long and short swords were never far from his side. A gold-trimmed spellbook hung from his waist on a chain, and his exquisitely cut gemstone sleeves and beautifully crafted silver brooches provided him with sufficient combat power and survivability before donning his power armor.
"Send Tita to my personal library; she can access 'Jacob's Brothers' with her own access," Salomon said. "Tell her it's my reward to the sorority. As for tactical instruction... ask General Hale if he has any ideas."
"Oh, and there's also the issue of the regular army. Sophia whipped several soldiers from Northern Europe because they suggested taking the weekend off. She proposed joint training, and her people should participate too..."
"That's just the quality of NATO soldiers; there's nothing surprising about it. As for training targets, aren't there enough local warlords in Africa to serve as training subjects?"
"You mean a warlord group that could be taken down with just a few attack helicopters?" Stephanie gave an unnatural laugh. "We've wiped out so many warlords funded by diamond and oil merchants, do you really think they'll just sit idly by?"
"Then take them all out too. The last time the Sisterhood trained, the targets were private armies of conglomerates and African warlords, and it was very effective. It's quiet there now, and resources are being steadily supplied to the Immortal City." Salomon waved his hand impatiently. "You can decide this kind of trivial matter yourself. I've assigned you a number of assassin and air force slots that you can mobilize. As long as it's beneficial to the Immortal City, even launching a large-scale air raid in the city or sending assassins to assassinate conglomerate heirs is fine."
"And another thing, that is the war machine that the Martian Foundry deployed in the Battle of Finnbowent..."
Stephanie dragged Salomon to her office without hesitation, and even the Royal Guard couldn't stop her. There were many documents there that Salomon needed to review personally; this was part of his job as the master of the Immortal City. Moreover, Constantine personally oversaw the security of the Ministry of the Interior building and the entire Immortal City's security system. The Royal Guard knew very well that there were few places in the world safer than the Ministry of the Interior's offices, which were encased in vibranium armor plates and could potentially fall into underground tunnels at any time.
Stephanie had completed most of the logistical support tasks. Salomon still needed to hold a meeting with Mars to discuss the improvement and upgrading of weaponry and equipment, as well as the performance of new weapons in the war. Stephanie had already prepared this data, and he only needed to review it once. These were simple tasks, nothing more than data and scheduling issues. The employees Salomon had recruited were there to handle these problems; he only needed to give orders and let Constantine take charge of a portion of it. He also approved several construction plans, such as an underwater tunnel to increase cargo capacity, upgrades to the Immortal City's support and conventional security systems (part of the Royal Guard's collaboration with the Martian Foundry), and the post-war resettlement of local residents in Finnbowent, among others.
The truly important task was for him to personally break someone's hands.
The decision to sever ties between Kamar-Taj and the title of Sorcerer Supreme was made long ago by His Holiness, who always believed that humanity's fate should not be placed in the mercy of outer-dimensional demons. Who knows when the Vishanti might change their minds, or deliberately do something unacceptable to make a deal with Gaia, the Earth Mother, through the human race? This possibility cannot be ruled out.
Salomon's idea was conceived by His Holiness, who naturally believed that continuing to link Kamar-Taj with the title of Sorcerer Supreme carried unpredictable risks. Even with Agamotto, the first Sorcerer Supreme, among the Vishanti, it wouldn't increase His Holiness and Salomon's trust in the Vishanti—especially since His Holiness knew of Salomon's secret plan and was fully supporting it. For this plan to succeed, separating the title of Sorcerer Supreme from Kamar-Taj was crucial, and the person who received the title of Sorcerer Supreme had to be in the hands of the true ruler of Kamar-Taj.
Out of a sense of seriousness and responsibility, Salomon took care of his personal matters before undertaking the mission.
"This is your bank card, and this is your passport. I hope you can learn to use a mobile phone in a few days; after all, these things didn't exist five hundred years ago." Bald's eyebrows twitched several times as Salomon launched into a long lecture. If Rosa hadn't been sitting right next to him, he would have definitely rebuked Salomon without hesitation—he had disliked this guy from the start, despite Salomon's terrifying fighting prowess and consistently polite behavior throughout their interactions. However, since Rosa had raised both Bayonetta and Salomon from infancy, and as the mother, she didn't object, he, the father who had never met his daughters before, couldn't raise any objections.
If he dared to say that, Rosa would bring up something from five hundred years ago.
Back of the bus was a mountain of luggage. The assassin driving the bus seemed oblivious to the situation inside. No one could understand why Salomon had pulled him out to drive, given his hidden security duties. Salomon and Baldr squeezed into a row of seats, while Bayonetta and Rosa whispered on the other side. Joan of Arc sat at the front, not speaking to anyone. Everyone was now in civilian clothes. Rosa and Bayonetta's facial features were strikingly similar; both were so young and beautiful that it was almost impossible to tell they were mother and daughter, more like sisters. Only through their eyes could one see that Bayonetta indeed carried Baldr's blood.
When the shopping desires suppressed for five hundred years are suddenly unleashed, their power is astonishing. Ever since Rosa decided to travel the world with Baldr, she has been preparing everything she needs for the trip. The hall of the Oxfordshire manor was almost flooded with cardboard boxes from delivery services. It was only thanks to Diana's diligent cleaning that the boxes didn't pile up into the Thames River next to the manor. If Stephanie hadn't acquired the logistics company and opened a dedicated route, Rosa's departure date might have been delayed for months. Clothing and household items made up the vast majority of Rosa's purchases. Bayonetta was busy for days, barely even speaking to Salomon, just to choose these things.
Bayonetta opened a special account to cover Rosa and Baldr's expenses.
At first, Baldr wanted to refuse, but Salomon stated that this was not charity, but rather a way to monitor the sages and witches' movements in this world by tracking the flow of funds. Baldr felt even more disgusted with this cunning fellow, especially since he was a Kamar-Taj sorcerer.
"Also, please try to kill as few people or things as possible, and absolutely do not summon extradimensional beings." Salomon knew that Bald disliked him, so he tried to keep it brief. "You are still under the jurisdiction of Kamar-Taj's rules and regulations, and I believe Ms. Rosa can explain to you what you cannot do."
Baldr took a deep breath.
If he were a pressure cooker, steam would definitely be coming out of his ears right now.
